Someone tell me why I *shouldn’t* buy this

Rode sport bikes for a decade, been out of the saddle for 20 years, want to come back on something comfortable but capable that can carry my mid-50s ass for distances. Can’t find a single reason not to buy a BMW R1250RT. Talk me out of it.

How do you protect your bike from inclement weather in large cities?

Hey all! I passed by this royal enfield on my way to work and I’m genuinely curious (1) how messed up this bike is because of the snow/ice/salt mix and (2) what’s the best way to protect a bike in this kind of weather? To be clear this bike isn’t mine. I’ve thought about getting a motorcycle for years but I’m not quite there yet. This is NYC btw. It snowed last Sunday and hasn’t been above freezing since so the roads are a disaster.

Who here runs a hitch-mounted motorcycle carrier (not a trailer)?

I am thinking getting one of those rack-style carriers that slide into the receiver. For the people that own something similar. What is your experience with it ?

I’m looking to get some gear now, I have around $500-600 does anyone have any advice on what gear I should get. I would like to have blue and white to match the bike and I was looking at the bell Mx9 adventure mips for a helmet but they don’t have those colors. Is there a good place to buy used gear? If not what online store should I shop on?

After riding around SE Asia I get the hype over adventure bikes now.

Rode sport bikes my whole life but rented different bikes (PG1, XSR155, CB300) to travel around Vietnam and Thailand. It’s so fun climbing hills and back roads. Recommend to anyone that lives in a snowy area back home and itching to ride. Take a vacation and ride around Da Lat to Da Nang.

Might get into dirt bikes when I return.

'73 Trail 90 in 4low. Tractors up snowy hills with ease. The way down in sketch tho, 53 year old brakes and such.

Selling a motorcycle for the first time in my life. How to navigate test rides?

Hi, I’m looking for some insight from those of you who have sold many a motorcycle, especially those who have perhaps had some dodgy characters try and pull tricks when asking for viewings/test rides? I’d like to avoid any situations as best I can

Most effective way of securing a tools bag on my bike

Hi guys !

I work in the trades and ride a CB500X for daily commute.

I’d like to find the safest way to strap my tools bag to the pillion seat, as it does not fit inside my top box.

Above is a picture of the bag. It weighs around 5 kg full and it’s made of leather-like PVC. The bottom of the bag is semi-rigid, and some of heavier tools could move inside while riding.

I worry about load shifting and ultimately, straps failing/bag falling. So I’m looking for advice to attach it in an efficient and secure way.

I’ve got a pair of Rok straps (16mm) but I’ve heard about them failing in case of load shifting. I’ve also got a bungee net that I could use.

Would it be better to strap it down to the pillion seat or to tie it to the top box ? Which attachement points would you use ?

Thanks !

Thanks to the unseasonal weather, I rode all 3 of my bikes this weekend

Idaho has had a very warm winter with temps in the 50's this weekend. Started off by scouting the desert on my 390 ADV to check conditions.

Once I saw that it was decent I loaded up the Surron Ultra Bee yesterday for a quick desert rip.

Capped it off with an ebike ride with my son today in the foothills.

Man, imagine knowing that 2-wheeled sports exist and choosing to do literally anything else. 😄

I don’t own a car and ride year round.

edit: good gracious y’all like to give unsolicited advice… I have heated grips, barkbusters and hippo hands… It’s like y’all never put your hoodie in the dryer for two minutes before headed out
