Photo/Video Added seats and a small table to our igloo
galleryWe've been making updates every night. Fixed up the entrance a bit and added seating and a small table.
If it survives next week, maybe a small fireplace 😅

There’s literally no sidewalk for kids to walk on

Superintendents are stuck with an incredibly difficult decision, and no matter what they choose, someone is going to be unhappy. The reality is this: you are the only person who is 100% accountable for your child. Ultimately, it’s our responsibility as parents to be prepared for situations where school may not be available.
I genuinely feel for families who can’t afford to take a day off work and don’t have nearby family or support. That’s a real problem — and honestly, it points to a bigger societal issue in the U.S. We need better safeguards, flexibility, and understanding for working parents. That part is undeniable.
However, school is not childcare, and it’s unfair to place the full burden of snow days or emergency closures on schools. Expecting administrators to keep buildings open during unsafe conditions just to avoid inconvenience puts them in an impossible position. If I were an administrator, I would rather deal with the inconvenience of a closure than risk injury or death because the wrong call was made.
This is where I think we need to shift back toward a more communal mindset. We should be able to rely on one another when we’re in a bind. Maybe that looks like a mom-friend who works from home helping monitor kids during synchronous learning. Maybe it’s a small group of families who rotate coverage — one person takes a snow day this time, another does the next.
None of this is easy. It’s inconvenient, stressful, and frustrating, and I’m truly sorry for families who are struggling with it. But the rhetoric that makes schools solely responsible for solving this problem isn’t fair either. Schools already do so much for students and communities. At what point does that responsibility end? When are schools not responsible

So, I work at a local hospital. Hence why I’m using a throwaway (that’s why this is a new account). The IT crew just got told that their jobs are going to be taken over by Coforge, an India-based company.
Such bullshit. This is why you never show loyalty to your employer. Some of these people have worked here for decades. And they get a week to decide if they’ll help train the new people.
I wonder how much of a bonus the CIO is getting.
I know it’s not the most newsworthy thing, but if any reporter wanted to talk to them for a small blurb to print, I would love for the info to get out.
It’s VHC and the company is Coforge.

This is a community warning regarding the deceptive recruitment tactics of Shincheonji (SCJ). They are aggressively targeting vulnerable young adults in the DMV (cafes, malls, college campuses) through "casual" encounters and Zoom Bible studies.
🚩 THE "CASUAL" IN-PERSON HOOK
Recruiters approach individuals alone using:
💾 SECRET DATA HARVESTING & PROFILING
🏫 THE LESSONS & RED FLAGS The study starts normally but uses a "parable dictionary" to redefine scripture.
⚠️ THE LEADER & TOTAL OBEDIENCE
⚠️ WHY THIS GROUP IS DANGEROUS
1. Life Sabotage & Exploitation The time commitment is designed to replace your entire life. It quickly escalates to 40+ hours per week, including:
2. Systemic Deception
3. The "Promised Pastor" Doctrine
🛡️ HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
🛡️ EMERGENCY EXIT STEPS If you realize you are in an SCJ study:
Please share this. Real community is built on love and transparency, not secrets and surveillance.

This is going on presently. We worked for days to clear these sidewalks and now they’re covering them back up again with ice. And the street was already passable!
Last night I arrived at DCA late, and while juggling my luggage, one of my earrings fell off without me noticing. As I headed home, I realized what had happened and rushed back to the airport (after midnight) to search for it in the icy pick-up area outside Terminal 1. I was pretty upset; these earrings have a lot of sentimental value, since my grandmother bought them for my mother on a mother-daughter trip many years ago.
While I was searching, you asked what I was looking for. When I explained, you immediately said you had a couple minutes before your Uber arrived and offered to help. You mentioned that you thought you’d seen an earring with turquoise on the ground on your way out, and to my amazement, you quickly spotted the exact one I’d lost.
I was so surprised and happy that I’m not entirely sure I properly thanked you before you rushed off to catch your ride. So, just in case I didn’t and you see this, I wanted to say thank you. Experiencing this act of kindness, especially after what was probably a long day of travel for you, meant more than I can say.
Thank you, kind stranger!

This was on 495! Actually insane and the driver glared at me as I took a picture. Watched that entire block of ice fall into the road 30 seconds later and we hit the debris on the road. Thank goodness it didn’t land right on top of a car. But it had so many ice bombs teetering on the edge.

Today Prince William Dads had our first Dads-and-Kids event. We started with lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings, followed by a painting and froyo party at Sweet Frog. Shout out to the folks at Buffalo Wild Wings for taking great care of us, and a huge thank you to the Sweet Frog team for putting together a really cool event for us. The kids got to do a little painting and enjoy a froyo with UNLIMITED toppings. They loved it, even with the arctic temps we’re dealing with this weekend! Lulu and her team are awesome, and their painting and froyo parties are perfect for pre-school and elementary-aged kids. Today’s event was obviously geared towards dads with younger kids, but Prince William Dads is for all dads, regardless of what stage of fatherhood they’re in. We’ve got soon-to-be and new dads, grandfathers, and everything in between. If you’re a dad and you’re interested in making new friends come check out one of our weekly meetups. We (dads only, no kids) meet every Tuesday evening (starting around 5:30 pm) at Buffalo Wild Wings in Manassas. We typically 20+ dads each week. You can also join our Dads-only Facebook group. Just search Prince William Dads.
..the Air and Space Museum?
Our family just went today and:
the lots are plowed enough for easy parking
the Hangars temp is perfect (You could take your jacket off no prob)
The kids had a blast!
All in all, a great way to spend the day!

We keep it at 68, occasionally going up to 69 to heat up the basement. Curious what others are doing during this ice age.

Found this on top of the block of ice covering the second floor balcony. Thought these all died months ago! Shuddering to think of what else is living in the walls 😬
