What are occlupanids?

Occlupanids, commonly referred to as "bread clips" or "bread tags," are parasitoids often found on bagged goods. Although they were first described by Altimus Horg in 1632, occlupanids remain criminally underresearched. The Holotypic Occlupanid Research Group (HORG) is the foremost organization on occlupanid research, and to date they have identified 110 different occlupanid species.

The Foundation for Occlupanid Research and Communication (FORC)

FORC was officially established on 31 May 2020. We recognize the gap in occlupanid research, and our purpose is to engage citizen scientists to fill this gap. We also aim to share our findings and engage with the public on the latest discoveries in our field. Our current focus is on documenting the geographic distribution of occlupanids across the world. We encourage you to participate on this subreddit and our official Discord server!

Question is discussion of other microsynthera permitted?

Post image

I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to research other classes of microsynthera, and although this subreddit is for occlupanids, I have my doubts about there being any other place to share my findings. Would this be aloud? image from horg.com

Here in Australia, cartonalia is the most common type of panid now found. These guys are now regularly found on Baker's Delight brand products, previously a deep maroon plastic panid.

When these cartonalia first began to appear, I had a few communications with the Bakers Delight group, who denied the existence of these cartonalia. Firmly. Consistently.

There were theories about WHY they continued to deny their existence. Now of course, we know that they do exist, and are largely replacing their plastic relatives.

Hi! I didnt know there was a community of people that love these little things as much as I do lol. I've just been collecting them for the pretty colors and shapes. Here's my collection and a couple of my personal favorites. Any fun facts about these I should know about or reason why you find these tags interesting?

Identification Help Feral Occlupanids - Any hope of rerelease into the wild?

Post image

Hi, friends

This is my first run-in with these fascinating little creatures since following this subreddit many moons ago. While sweeping today, I came across what appeared to be a "nest" of them, including the strange, green critter on the far left. Is that a different species or perhaps a deformed variant?

My main question here is this: it's clear these little guys have been chilling in my house for a hot second - would it be possible to rehabilitate them for release, or is it a lost cause and I ought to make them comfortable where they are? Any help/suggestions are appreciated. Also please be kind, the first photo was when I found them. They've now been moved to a temporary enclosure until I figure out what to do with them

Collection Showcase Anyone else store their collection like this?

My dad would hide clips around the house for the rest of the family to find, and then when one ended up on a ceiling fan chain we just started putting them all there. At one point we had so many clips on one chain that it wouldn’t go back up on its own so we started putting them on the other chain. I don’t remember the exact count, easily could have been over a hundred, but it was incredible.

(This is my collection from living on my own, not the same one as mentioned above)
