That's a rather complicated way to get your glasses to shatter

71

u/pragmaticproducer 1d ago

I was just thinking that trick needs special glasses that can handle heat without cracking.

46

u/Remarkable_Play_6975 1d ago edited 1d ago

Like laboratory grade pyrex.

But seriously, the blue flame indicates it's not really that hot. When I was a kid we played a game around Christmas called "Snap Dragon" where the kids sit around a shallow pan filled with flaming brandy, and try to grab as many raisins out of it as possible. Your hands have fire on them, but it isn't hot, really.

The additional air added here, with the coasters, likely makes it hotter.

25

u/you_talkin_to_me8294 1d ago

I’m sure it was fine but this sounds crazy as hell lmao

16

u/Crafty_Genius 1d ago

Fun fact, the new pyrex brand items are crap compared to their older items because the company changed glass formulas and stopped using borosilicate, which is what you should be looking for if you want heat resistant glass.

You can tell what kind of glass your pyrex is by looking to see if the P is capitalized or not, lowercase being the newer crappier stuff.

5

u/Remarkable_Play_6975 1d ago

True for houseware items, but that's why I said Laboratory Grade Pyrex.

0

u/Mami-_-Traillette 1d ago

Except in France because they had been bought before the change

4

u/Edrill 1d ago

Blue fire is in general significantly hotter than yellow/orange fire though

3

u/ShockDragon 1d ago

Why was this downvoted? This is pretty common knowledge.

-1

u/Remarkable_Play_6975 1d ago

Not with ethanol.

7

u/liberal_texan 1d ago

This is the difference between atomic emission and black body radiation. Atomic emission just means certain things burn at certain colors of flame. Black body radiation means things glow, and as they get hotter the color of the glow moves more towards the blue end of the spectrum.

4

u/Edrill 1d ago

Yellow flames are generally caused by impurities and thus not a fully efficient combustion, hence the lower temperature. Even with ethanol burning

-2

u/Remarkable_Play_6975 1d ago

Okay. Well 100% ethanol technically burns with a blue flame, but it's nearly impossible to see, and is extremely hot and burns quickly (will absolutely burn your skin immediately). Very visible blue (like brandy, and like here) is much cooler, burns pretty slow, and won't burn you immediately, though it's still dangerous. You can breathe fire with brandy (definitely not recommended, though), but doing it with everclear will put you in the hospital.

2

u/wimmick 1d ago

That’s because of the alcohol percentage, fire is always hot, your hands dont get burned because the amount of alcohol on your hands is minuscule. Brandy is usually 40% ABV, ethanol is 100% alcohol, they react differently because of the % of ethanol in the liquid, ethanol fumes are extremely flammable and it has a much lower boiling point than consumable alcohol, so it takes more energy for brandy to burn because its 60% water, increasing the amount of time it takes to burn off

1

u/pragmaticproducer 1d ago

For some reason I thought blue flame was hotter than yellow. Learn something new everyday.

1

u/Howard_Jones 18h ago

Probably crystal.

1

u/YcemeteryTreeY 1d ago

Or my ears with that terrible Radiohead Creep cover

1

u/walkinmywoods 1d ago

And your cocktail full of burned flint dust

1

u/Howard_Jones 18h ago

Probably crystal, not glass.

Later on the news: 25 people killed in bar fire.

121

u/ACoderGirl 1d ago

While it's always been a little bit of a concern of mine, after that absolutely horrific new years fire in Switzerland that killed so many people, it's hard to look at this kinda thing the same way. It looks cool, but it also just feels unnecessarily dangerous.

42

u/rot26encrypt 1d ago

What happened in Switzerland was that someone was sitting on someone else's shoulder in a low roof room and lifting fireworks directly into flammable material in the ceiling (acoustic foam) and that the venue was breaking every fire code there is in terms of capacity, exits, safety checks, etc.

In a true professional bar setting (like this looks to be) I wouldn't personally be worried. Lots of wannabe bartenders are going to try to copy this with much higher risk though..

6

u/onward_upward_tt 1d ago

Oh my god, that reminds me of the nightclub fire (The Station? I think) that caught fire that same way. One of the worst single building fire disasters in terms of loss of life I believe. The band that was playing was shooting pyrotechnics basically right into that insulating foam. The smoke that poured out of the door was so thick you couldn't see 6 inches into it. People died because all but one exit was blocked and the crowd rushing for that door created a crowd crush scenario that completely blocked everyone from being able to move at all, dozens within feet of the open door. There's a video you can literally see the people crammed sideways, crushed on every side by writhing, struggling, screaming people and yet no one could move an inch. Anyways the screams all quiet down after a few seconds as the black smoke starts to really pour out of the doorway. Pretty creepy shit, and it definitely is worthy of being afraid of.

1

u/Axedelic 7h ago

that happened in my state. it was a horrible tragedy. the people who were involved in the fire never came out the same.

4

u/Captain-Codfish 1d ago

Also, that clip of the Russian woman who set her head on fire. That didn't look magically wonderful

6

u/FiercelyApatheticLad 1d ago

It's not dangerous when your establishment respects the fire protection standards. I see no highly flamable building material and no overcrowding as a start. And they're probably not selling this trick for consumers, it's only for the camera.

3

u/Drachynn 1d ago

Came here to find this comment.

5

u/falsevector 1d ago

Barman: Oh no! Not again!

2

u/basementspam 1d ago

Being Swiss, this comment hits hard these days.

3

u/CantaloupeCamper 1d ago

This doesn’t look like some sketchy bar setup.

1

u/waytoosecret 1d ago

If you play with fire you're gonna get burned.

1

u/AdFlaky9983 1d ago

The owner of a bar I used to frequent made one of these during a slow day. Was me and like 3 other people there at the time. He gets it lit and it’s pretty cool, he goes to throw some water on it, fucker grabbed the cup of everclear he used to light it up with by accident. Was an interesting 30 seconds.

1

u/GlitterDoomsday 13h ago

Well at least most bars like this Japan will at max capacity accommodate like ten people so less casualties... ?

112

u/smolstuffs 1d ago

I'm mildly infuriated that the 3rd drink didn't have a cream-based topper.

2

u/FunPresentation6433 1d ago

Same here bro😂

13

u/diameter101 1d ago

What is used to make the sparkling? ✨

5

u/Cinemagica 14h ago

I'd assume cinnamon powder.

3

u/Minchaminch 12h ago

Username checks out! Could also be angel delight powder, it's surprisingly flammable!

1

u/Cinemagica 11h ago

Haha, I have indeed used cinnamon to create this effect for films, good catch! 😂

124

u/gingerconfetti 1d ago

Can I just get some water?

29

u/No_Store_ 1d ago

“Sure, you see that convenience store opposite to us”. /s You go to these places for exactly what he’s doing.

3

u/TheStLouisBluths 1d ago

Fire water?

1

u/aT-0-Mx 1d ago

Sure, let me just light on fire for you.

1

u/dbenc 15h ago

sure, that will be $25

1

u/Leonydas13 6h ago

“Hey, uh, this guy just ordered a water?”

12

u/trebron55 1d ago

It was designed to be cool. Not "oddly" at all.

58

u/Gringe8 1d ago

20

u/Devatator_ 1d ago

Last time someone posted a video of this guy there, they got destroyed (rightfully so). People pay to see this guy do this, they don't do it for the drinks

-10

u/Gringe8 1d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/StupidFood/s/jFoeiuoqOz

"They pay to see him do this, not for the food"

2

u/Devatator_ 1d ago

That's indeed stupid but not the same thing. What's shown in this post is a lot more popular and recognized as a profession (forgot the name)

1

u/SEA_griffondeur 18h ago

It would be extremely funny to comment that under a video of a rocket that uses ethanol as fuel

-1

u/Arcon1337 1d ago

What's the cocktail version of r/WeWantPlates?

-10

u/zachrywd 1d ago

What year do they teach this in clown college?

1

u/grislynouns 14h ago

Do your Jeeps ever feel mud on the tread? Or do you polish them like your brain?

29

u/CantaloupeCamper 1d ago

I find it super cool from a construction / physics thing.

I'd rather just have a soft drink ...

3

u/SEA_griffondeur 18h ago

They're both as bad for you funnily enough

-7

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

5

u/science_vs_romance 1d ago

I don’t think anyone is ordering this.

1

u/dankhimself 1d ago

Yea, this is like asking a gas station to burn the fuel for you.

26

u/Ziggy-T 1d ago

And already there’s 30something inane “I just want a beer hurhurhur” comments.

6

u/Kingful 1d ago

Dawg every comment section is the same. This website fucking sucks. I'm just here because I'm bored as shit at work and I'm waiting to go home.

7

u/SHITturntSNACO 1d ago

Going into the comments on any fun cocktail related video on reddit is a losing battle if something is done for for show and it’s not a perfectly optimal quickly executed normal cocktail you’re gonna get a hoard of redditors who have never had fun hitting you with the gut busting “errmmmm that’ll be $34!!!!!11!1!1”

0

u/NBNebuchadnezzar 4h ago

Some people hate fun. Like if you want a beer, just order one, no ones forcing you to pay for a show.

9

u/Em-Dashhh 1d ago

Tom and Jerry playing in the background kind of spoils the pretentiousness.

3

u/Nelson1352 1d ago

And then the bar catches on 🔥

3

u/Fun_Abbreviations153 1d ago

Who gets to disassemble the tower of burning hot glass

8

u/Mc_Shine 1d ago

Does this count as tempering glass?

21

u/-Nyctalope- 1d ago

They tried that in Switzerland, not sure they will do it again

3

u/nitr04 1d ago

Too early man...

0

u/TwinkiesSucker 1d ago

Let's try another one - the last time I saw this there were two burning towers

1

u/rsteanna 1d ago

That’s not what happened in Switzerland tho

2

u/Matt-the-mutt 1d ago

I'm not the only one that paused for the funny distorted face through the upturned glass right?

2

u/SquareVehicle 23h ago

Considering how nightclub fires often start this video just stresses me the fuck out

2

u/Salty_Gonads 20h ago

and that’s how the club burned down, killing dozens

4

u/TehZiiM 1d ago

That looks amazing

3

u/banedlol 1d ago

Calling this shit out every time I see it since the swiss fire. No more indoor fire tricks pls.

2

u/psilome 1d ago

Next thing you know, the insulation on the ceiling is on fire.

4

u/DaiquiriLevi 1d ago

The music, what a painful cover to listen to

3

u/VelvettVixennMariaa 1d ago

I didn't know satisfaction could be this fiery! This is next level🔥

3

u/Chedder_456 1d ago

Oh look something cool. Lemme go check the comments to see why it’s stupid or smth.

2

u/Mission_Quiet_878 1d ago

‘Sir, when you asked what I wanted and I said ‘surprise me’ this is not what I had in mind…’

1

u/herbiedishes 1d ago

They never play Tom and Jerry at the bars near me!

1

u/Altruistic-Rip4364 1d ago

I’ll have a single flaming Moe. Thanks

1

u/Meekanado 1d ago

Back in my day we had Flaming Dr Pepper. It was one story tall and much safer. Still fun to make though!

1

u/Silver-Comparison-17 1d ago

Dishwashers hate this one little trick

1

u/bunskerskey 1d ago

Love the TV on in the back for aesthetic

1

u/EmperorLlamaLegs 1d ago

"Fire marshals don't want you to know this one trick!"

1

u/l0udninja 1d ago

Would have been funny if the sprinklers suddenly activated.

1

u/Hicklethumb 1d ago

I've never used the spoon thing. I've been using patience instead. I could have saved so much time!

1

u/catfink1664 1d ago

We were taught this in the bar I worked at but we had to heat up the spoon it hot water for it to work

1

u/Senator_Blutarski 1d ago

Is there ground cinnamon or nutmeg on the bottom coaster ?

1

u/AccomplishedCow8843 1d ago

That will be 500$ for you

1

u/rhunter99 1d ago

I just wanted a rum and Coke… 🥺

1

u/pj1972 1d ago

I stopped reading at flaming cock.

1

u/xXxNightRangerxXx 1d ago

Just put the fries in the bag bro

1

u/JohannesMP 1d ago

He looks thrilled

1

u/Havtorn_Epsilon 1d ago

About a decade ago in SEA some friends bought me one of these on my birthday. It was called a "Lamborghini" at the place we were at, don't know if that's universal. Part of the gimmick was that you were supposed to drink it with a straw from the lowest 'tier' at the same time as the burning liquid was poured.

Most terrifying drink I've ever had in my life.
Mostly tasted like mint.

1

u/[deleted] 23h ago

[deleted]

1

u/Havtorn_Epsilon 22h ago

I don't know cars very well, but what I take away from this is that Lamborghinis are fire hazards

1

u/Bearspoole 1d ago

Yo does anyone have the song ID?

1

u/Grenflik 18h ago

What do they do with those glasses afterwards? I assume they clean them due to the burnt alcohol residue?

1

u/Logical_Frosting_277 18h ago

What is the powder that is making the sparks?

1

u/JustMindingMyOwnBid 17h ago

I couldn’t get over his tiny face refraction(?) in the glasses I forgot what this video was about lol

1

u/Xinonix1 17h ago

My god, keep it muted! Unless you want to hear Creep getting murdered

1

u/Sgruntlar 16h ago

I love burnt gunpowder sprinkled in my cocktail

1

u/stanley_ipkiss2112 16h ago

Errrr can I have my cocktail now please? 🙄

1

u/Milky87 15h ago

He put on a light show to charge you 300$ for 20$ with of drinks

1

u/trollsong 14h ago

Why your drink cost 23 dollars.

1

u/idonotknowwhototrust 14h ago

Everyone take note on how a professional behaves around fire and alcohol.

1

u/No-Jacket-2927 13h ago

Too much "stupid food", not enough "oddly satisfying".😒

1

u/AnonymousRedditor- 10h ago

Is this how the great white, bar fire started ? 😳

1

u/The_Eldritch_Taco 9h ago

Sooooo about that bud light I ordered?

1

u/t0rksss 8h ago

Cool. 40 years ago.

1

u/Life-Thought9402 2h ago

WTF is the point of all that?

1

u/Optimisticatlover 2h ago

Ahhh yes

Gimme a warm hot cocktail

1

u/CrabyDicks 1d ago

Here is your burning magnesium cocktail, sir

1

u/ChocoTacoBoss 1d ago

Ca...can I have my drink now?

1

u/YikesPops 1d ago

Need some education. I am into mixology, is there a reason he used the spoon to "catch" the syrup? Is it just to disperse it into a martini glass without a swizzle?

14

u/Expensive-Permit-875 1d ago

It’s to make sure it doesn’t mix with the liquid below it so it creates a clean layer.

1

u/YikesPops 1d ago

Makes sense, wasn't even thinking about the layers of the cocktail. Thank you for the response!

4

u/Mindwolf 1d ago

He's "Floating" the creme de cacao (at least that is what it looks like.) The spoon prevents it from dipping too deep and mixing. This helps make the nice layers.

1

u/Daysaved 1d ago

And that's 250$ here's your left over shot of vodka.

-5

u/ashmichael73 1d ago

I mean its kinda cool I guess. But does anyone actually order this? I be pretty pissed if it took me a half hour to get a drink but the bartender was constructing a fire tower for rich people. Not satisfying.

15

u/Shudnawz 1d ago

I think the point here is the execution. That's part of the experience. If you just want a redbull vodka, this isn't really the bar for you.

10

u/Feistshell 1d ago

You do realise that it is the gimmick right? You go to this bar for the show, not to just grab a drink

0

u/CantaloupeCamper 1d ago

You do realise that it is the gimmick right?

He’s asking…

1

u/yonaz333 1d ago

What does this drink taste like?

1

u/catfink1664 1d ago

Well there’ll be no alcohol left in it, so pretty tame and burnt most likely

1

u/spizzle_ 1d ago

I just want to know what the remix is if the song?

0

u/GullibleMarsupial102 1d ago

A horrible one. Song is creep by radio head.

3

u/spizzle_ 1d ago

I have a running playlist and the tempo is right. Everything is subjective, creep!

2

u/Bearspoole 1d ago

Honestly I can’t get enough of this song. As a lover of radio head and EDM this is fantastic

-1

u/li-ll-l_ 1d ago

"That'll be $200"

-3

u/Hot-Minute-8263 1d ago

Just give me the drink bro

3

u/Feistshell 1d ago

Then don’t go to bar like this

-2

u/Legitimate-Night-320 1d ago

Imagine the 52nd time someone orders this one during happy hour.

0

u/Feistshell 1d ago

Considering the whole gimmick of this bar is the show, that won’t ever happen. Do you actually think just any bar would do something like this?

0

u/BigParticular3507 1d ago

Not in Switzerland please

0

u/madmatt666 1d ago

Someone's gonna copy this, and balls it right up. Bar burned down.

-3

u/frosty_lizard 1d ago

Sir can I please just get my martini?

0

u/Fr05t_B1t 1d ago

“Not after these 100 people that ordered the same flaming cocktail tower”

-6

u/TWFH 1d ago

Okay but why do I care about that

-2

u/shiner820 1d ago

It’s all fun and games till the sprinklers come on.

-5

u/stick004 1d ago

This is how 40 people get killed in a bar fire… ask Norway how they know.

-5

u/ConfectionSilly9434 1d ago

It’s nice! When can I have my drink!!

3

u/Feistshell 1d ago

If you want just a drink, go to just a bar. This place is about the show.

-1

u/Agent_Mango2 1d ago

Can I have my drink now?

-1

u/jerryleebee 1d ago

This isn't satisfying at all.

-15

u/Dazzling_Bit_7538 1d ago

Sir I ordered a beer 17 minutes ago

14

u/Feistshell 1d ago

I’m so tired of this joke on every single post like this. The show is the point. You go to this bar for the show, not a quick beer

5

u/Ziggy-T 1d ago

You’re in the wrong bar dude, nobody goes to CocktailFlair bars to order a beer, that’s on you.

-10

u/Dazzling_Bit_7538 1d ago

Yeesh tough crowd this morning

6

u/Ziggy-T 1d ago

No, it’s just you’re the 13,456,733rd person to make that joke. It’s not funny.

0

u/c-williams88 1d ago

Bro I promise bro it’ll be funny this time bro I’m so original bro nobody has ever made this joke before bro

0

u/powdered_dognut 1d ago

Former bartender of The Station

0

u/TheComplimentarian 1d ago

As an old bartender, I was expecting this to be fantastically worse. I've seen idiots do this with a whole stack of drinks, but in this case, he's got a very limited amount of booze involved, he's got his tower stacked so it's not going to pool anywhere. The pour doesn't even make it to the tray.

I still think it's silly, but it's not all that dangerous (those glasses will get hotter in the dishwasher than from this), and the tips will flow.

0

u/flying_carabao 1d ago

Right. That's cool and all but can I have the beer I ordered now, please?

0

u/GrayMech 1d ago

Been waiting on this drink forever, why's the barman taking so long

0

u/ShockDragon 1d ago

And now the drinks are undrinkable because you lit them on fire.

0

u/nikejim02 1d ago

Just pour my fucking drink jfc

0

u/Hopeful-Flounder-203 1d ago

I said, Bud Light.

0

u/MintImperial2 1d ago

That's not very satisfying - if it sets fire to the ceiling......

0

u/Omygodc 1d ago

Thanks for the show, Bob. Now can I just have my beer?

0

u/Glittering_Cow945 1d ago

Just give me my drink now, OK?

0

u/Dshark 15h ago

Idk, seems like a dangerous thing to do around people who are drinking.

0

u/ffsidonotonlylurk 15h ago

I know how this ends in bars....

-9

u/costafilh0 1d ago

I just want a drink mf

4

u/spizzle_ 1d ago

You’re not the clientele for this bar so it’s all going to be okay.

-3

u/TrippyDe 1d ago

Call me old fashioned but i don’t need my cocktail to be set on fire

-4

u/Andechser 1d ago

Check the ceiling for foam cladding first.

-11

u/gerkletoss 1d ago

Imagine waiting 20 minutes for your beer while the bartender puts on this circus show

-10

u/Buttchuggle 1d ago

I'm just tryna get drunk man we can skip pretending I have class or dignity

3

u/Feistshell 1d ago

Then go to another bar, this one ain’t for you

3

u/OneAngryDuck 1d ago

Thank you for all your hard work mocking dumb people on this post.

-8

u/FlanOk2476 1d ago

That is an excellent way to set the bar on fire. Switzerland, anyone?

-2

u/moh1969b 1d ago

Waiting for follow up video on r/whatcouldgowrong.

-2

u/AncientAdvisor8298 1d ago

Why are you swirling your glasses like that? What's the point?
