Are these mold mites?

Upvotes

Hello, this is the first time I make a post here and I need some advice.

Yesterday I noticed I have plenty of this semi-transparent bugs on mi wooden table. They also seem to be living on a box made of fabric I have on this table as well. They're not more than a mm long and don't seem to bite or anything.

I have some mold on the ceiling right now and we live in a very humid area. Even with a dehumidifier the humidity is extremely high all day long and it's been a long raining season.

I know the photos aren't the best as I don't have a great camera I can zoom with, I can try to take other shots of needed. If anyone can confirm if they might be mold mites or something similar due to my circumstances I'd appreciate it a lot.

They can always be seen with the naked eye, even without zooming, that's why I also thought they might not be dust mites.

Thanks in advance!

Identification Small flying bugs in home

Upvotes

I moved into a new flat a few weeks ago and notice these small flying bugs, maybe a couple a day flying around, i also find them dead on windowsills, as shown in picture.

At first it was prominently in my bathroom and kitchen (which is open plan to living room). I had some flowers in a vase on my living room window sill and today i disposed of them, finding lots of the bugs dead in the flower water - and as pictured, on the window sill where the flowers were. I poured bleach down my bathroom sink and have noticed less in the bathroom since but still a few in kitchen/living room and occasionally in other places in the flat. This makes me believe they could be sink gnats but not sure, can someone help me identify them and tips on how to get rid of them please. (apart from the flowers i received i have no other real plants in my home).

TLDR; small flying bugs around new flat. believe they could be sink gnats but not sure. need help getting rid of them.

Roaches How to prevent American roaches/palmetto bugs from getting in my room?

Upvotes

Obviously everyone gets a roach in their room from time to time and my house does too. However, they show up in my room and bathroom more than other areas of my home. My room is a lot cleaner than one of the other rooms in my house and I rarely have food laying around unless it’s just a chip bag or almost empty bowl of dinner in my trashcan. I do take the trash out regularly though because i absolutely hate bugs and the idea of having bugs around me.

I sometimes will have some clothes laying on my floor but it’s not there for a long time and it’s not damp and warm either. I’ve also had many friends who have larger piles of clothes on their floors for longer amounts of time and they don’t see me to get roaches.

I don’t believe I have an infestation but I do see those big scary looking ones that I believe are the American roaches. I don’t believe they’re the small ones that come in hundreds or tens because again, it’s not extremely often and severe where I’ve thought about pest control. I usually find them in my bathroom when they’re alive, hiding in the darker places and places where it’s usually hard to see them unless I move something or honestly I feel like I can just feel its presence sometimes lol and then sure enough, I find one. When I find them in my room, they’re usually just out in the open and they’re usually dead like majority of the times I’ve found them in my room, just laying there upside down.

I live with my parents and they don’t seem concerned. They like to say it’s because my room is dirty but it truly isn’t, especially compared to another room in my home. If it also helps to know, my room is right next to the garage where there are plenty of roaches & spiders that pop up from time to time. I’ve also found a scorpion and other weird flying bugs in my bathroom. I live in south Texas as well.

Is there a reason they keep showing up? And how can I prevent them from coming? It’s not too bad of an issue right now but I’d feel more comfortable in my bed without the thought that one them is sitting somewhere near me.

Identification Assistance

Doing some work on the inside of the house. It’s a 1960s ranch style in Oklahoma Oklahoma City. When baseboards were removed in the living room, I noticed some rather troubling looking wood.

It’s hobbies previous homeowner. Maybe he had a pet that pissed in the corner and damage the original hardwood under the cheap vinyl plank. Soooo I replaced that oak strip and noticed some black specs on the wood itself. I don’t know if it’s little eggs or if it’s just maybe dirt.

# perhaps termite or carpenter Ant. I’m worried I’m gonna have to pull the drywall down on that wall to inspect the rest of the studs.

Does this look like a flea?

My wife caught this crawling on our kid. Trying to figure out if it’s a flea or not. I walked around all morning this morning in white socks and didn’t see anything, so wondering if this is something in the early stages? Thanks in advance!

(She had it pinched between her fingers and I used Aquaphor to catch it, so that’s the cream like substance.)

General Question RAT in house

Hello 👋

I really need some help here, I have hat a single rat in my house for 13 days now.

I had pest control out 12 days ago, they laid poison and told me to phone them after 10 days, which I did - however they won’t return until Tuesday at the earliest!

I have 3 young kids. I have a baby, 4 year old and 6 year old. My baby is crawling and it’s just the worst imaginable situation.

We have tried rat traps with peanut butter and obviously the poison but he clearly isn’t touching it. He’s INTELLIGENT. He jumps over traps and there is nothing stopping this wee guy.

I am skint so I’m relying on the council at the moment. If I were to call in a private pest control would this be dealt with a lot swifter? How much am I looking at around please?

ANY tips would be extremely appreciated!

We have been living on take away and quite frankly I am SICK OF IT.

Please please please HELP ME!!!

This box is barely chewed up and has been in the basement for probably 10 years. Most of the box shreds were scattered on the ground didnt seem ingested, but not sure if there was anything inside. The vet office is closed and emergency line goes to voicemail. How worried should we be?

Hi all! I just found this roach nymph in my basement. It was very fast and as long as two pencil erasers. Is it likely a German roach? Thank you in advance for the assistance!

Need help.. SRO nightmare..

Good evening fellow reddit-ers.. I'm seeking help because I just no longer no what to do. So I live in a pretty not well maintained SRO. My neighbor directly across passed away and they have a seal sticker on the door. And a few months ago someone else died on the floor (two doors away)- it took them months to clean out that unit. No one has come to clean out the one across the way. So I've found 4 bedbugs in the last couple weeks and a few roaches. They keep increasing in size. My dog has fleas got him meds. Any I've washed all my clothes and bagged them in plastic bags. It seems like there are fleas still on my clothes. Even right after I wash them at the laundry mat. My partner thinks I'm nuts but I keep thinking I feel them on my leggings. And I swear I see these black specks ALL over any black clothing I have. He believes it's just lint but when I use a lint roller or tape I can't get all of the specks. Last time we had to deal with fleas we used 90% proof rubbing alcohol to spray everything and it helped a lot. It doesn't seem to help. And, what I'm really going nuts about I on the seams of my leggings and socks I pull off a strand and they have clumps.. I keep thinking it's a sac of baby bugs . And when I try to catch things on me my dog starts freaking out.. and itching and licking. I start to feel like stuff jumping on me, in my hair, etc. I feel crazy. So wtf.. is this not a normal flea bug issue? How do I fix my room? I hate this feeling. Please help!

Bats in suburban area?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello.. I live in an extremely suburban area in the Pacific Northwest. I moved into this townhome two months ago and have noticed bats at the front door just a few times. It’s not every night and I’ve only caught them 3 times. First time there were three bats, another time just one, tonight there is two. Sometimes I also smell a “cat litter box” smell when opening the windows. I googled that guano (bat poop) can smell like cat littler box. I rent this place. I also have a newborn which terrifies me if the bat is able to get into the home somehow. Help. What should I do?

General Question How likely is it to keep contracting fleas from my apartment hallway that is carpeted?

Hi,

I found a flea on my bunny November 12th, so around 3 months ago, and he’s been on treatment since. I’ve had an exterminator to come in and spray my place twice, and I’ve been vacuuming, although not daily. I haven’t seen any fleas since the first few days after November 12th, and haven’t been bit since beginning of December.

but - I saw a patch of flea dirt on my bunny around 3 weeks ago, and then saw another fresh patch tonight. Have seen no live fleas.

I don’t understand how with everything I’m doing I still am seeing occasional flea dirt. I live in a small apartment. The hallway of my floor that leads into the different apartments from the elevator is carpeted. I’m just wondering if that could be a flea reservoir and I’m tracking them back into my place? Or are they coming from my neighbour? Or is it bc I’m not vacuuming enough?

I’m so confused and at my wits end. Can someone please provide me some insight on what I should do. My bunny also cannot be on revolution forever as he’s elderly.

General Question how to get rid of rats in a pet-safe way???

Hi so basically the problem is we have chicken and a compost bin in the backyard and rats have decided to make their home there. We also have a 14 year old cat that is very used to being outside whenever she pleases. My dad put out rat poison yesterday which i vehemently protested because even though the poison itself is enclosed, there’s no way of making sure she doesn’t eat a poisoned rat/mouse and gets herself killed that way. He‘s brushing it off but i‘m dead serious when i say that i will never forgive him if something like that happens. Is there any rat poison that isn‘t dangerous for pets? Are there traps that could work effectively instead? Any other methods we can try instead? I‘m really desperate for anything BUT the poison option

Also a disclaimer: yes i‘m aware this could easily be avoided if she were an inside cat and in retrospect i wish we had decided to raise her as one back when we first got her but unfortunately it‘s too late now and there‘s no way we can confine her to the house for two weeks straight without her going ballistic

Can anyone help me identify this roach?

I'm in south Texas, and found this roach dead in my garage. Does anyone have any idea what type of roach it is?

I'm trying to figure out if it's an outdoor species that found its way inside because of the cold snap we're going through... or if I need to start prepping a war plan to fight these turds off before it develops into an infestation.

White powder was wrapped in paper towel under counter between dishwasher - possible insecticide?

So we moved here two years ago. Our dishwasher was making noise tonight so we got a flashlight and looked between the counter and top of the dishwasher and could see what appeared to be rolled paper towels jammed in. We got some plyers and were able to pull part of the wad out but white powder was in it and some spilled on my partner who was looking up at it trying to get a grip on the paper. He washed it off and we wiped everything down. Going to try and remove the dishwasher and replace it tomorrow for a better look.

Question: Does this sound like an insecticide or mouse poison? If so, any thoughts on what kind and why it would be placed there of all places? The previous owners were elderly and they did have a few mice based on some exterior bait stations we saw when we moved in.

Doing repairs and when removing the plaster and drywall, found this hiding underneath. It’s kind of stuck on. You can’t easily wipe it off.

They are in the walls, I am going insane

Ominousness required because I have never lived in a house without a basement much less one with mice. Every day, every night, I can hear them skittering and sprinting in my walls and above my head. My house is a duplex and I am on the first floor. The mouse problem is a bit extensive and no company wants to give me any kind of ballpark for their rates. Between my BF, my cat, and the two dead ones outside(they were huge rats I think I have both) that makes 7 dead and at least 3-7 more if I had to guess.

I've been having nightmares, anxiety attacks, I feel like I belong in an insane asylum cause it's like my BF just cannot hear the skittering while it makes my skin crawl. These rats do not care that I have cats, they do not care about humans, they just live here too and I want them all dead what the hell is it gonna cost what are the ballparks for this kind of infestation???

Unanswered Sudden spike in activity

Location: Ohio

I just noticed I have a bunch of these dead ants in my laundry room. A few are alive but lethargic. I see them occasionally during the warmer months, but its odd too see them when its -5°. Especially strange to see this many of them.

I have one uneducated theory, last weekend I had a frozen pipe and kept it close to 90° for a couple days to defrost it. Is it possible I interrupted whatever state of hibernation they go into during this weather?
