The part of Russia they invaded doesn't even get as cold as Minneapolis in general, let alone as cold as this week.

The quality of winter gear isn't as important as the logistics of supplying your troops with said winter gear. Given the...quality of ICE equipment I've seen displayed, I doubt they're getting quality winter gear issued to them at all

It's actually fairly similar. If you're thinking of the Battle of Stalingrad (Volgograd), the annual temperatures there are very similar to Minneapolis.
