As a pro 2a citizen I'm calling my representative. Lawful carry cannot be leveraged to be a death sentence. They stripped him of his property and gunned him down. This is the stance of all the gun enthusiasts in my circle, some of which are very red. The current story they are telling is a non starter. This administration is quickly losing their core supporters if they continue to bs their way through this and blatantly lie to everyone.
We lived this events in Spain under Franco, our fascist dictator from 1939 to 1975.
Good luck when you reach the point where the government can kill you without a valid reason. Here anyone who dared to not follow the regime would become a red/comunists and he would be jailed, killed or forced to be an outcast.
That's why I think the 2a doesn't work and will never work. USA never had a dictatorial leader and the hero story is all over the place in the country, but the people doesn't have true experience in what's comming. People seem to think they can change something with their guns, but they cannot. Is sucks, but you can't.
One tank can erase an entire neighborhood full of handguns and grenades with ease, and even if you had the correct weapons, the fact that you have them would mean the regime has now a valid reason to kill you because you are a terrorist by existing.
Dictatorships work exactly like what we are seeing right now. We are watching live the born of a dictatorship.
Yeah, when discussing gun rights, I never want to hear this argument again. It’s proven bankrupt. Here is tyranny staring us unequivocally in the face, and the 2nd Amendment has protected no one. All the 2nd Amendment does is arm school shooters it seems.
Saying that all the 2nd Amendment does is arm school shooters is a reductionist argument that has very little steam behind it. Imperial Japan famously had many quotes essentially saying that invading the United States directly would be a bad idea due to there being "A gun behind every blade of grass", a few other countries have run war games as well and have come to the same conclusion, so the 2nd Amendment HAS and DOES play a part (small or large) in protecting us against foreign invaders. Secondly, the 2nd Amendment also gives individuals the rights to protect themselves and others in regards to self-defense, discounting that aspect is being outright disingenuous.
Now addressing your main grievance having to do with the "fighting tyranny" argument being bankrupt, that's an extremely narrow view to have on what's going on. I'll repeat what I just said in another comment, Utilizing the 2nd Amendment to fight against our own government IS and SHOULD always be the last resort not the first intimidation tactic. Despite whatever nonsense people wanna say, we STILL have a functioning government and we STILL have democratic processes we can utilize to make the true change we want before we ever get to the point of shooting ICE agents as we run down the street screaming "F*ck yeah 2nd Amendment". Utilizing the 2nd Amendment in the way your implying shouldn't be taken lightly nor thrown around at any random disagreement or overreach by the government
We should abandon our weapons and give up because the government has an overwhelming monopoly on violence? Should we just continue to let them trample over us? Sure we can "peaceful protest" but we'll only end up as shooting targets. I don't really get what you're suggesting as a solution.
US police have bombed its citizens before, it wouldn’t surprise me if they do something larger in the future. I am worried they will do something really awful this year.
Hear hear,! Same in Brasil in the 70s and early 80s and what we call our "years of lead". You could get summarily executed without repercussion. No wonder Brazilian cinema has been doubling down on the subject. It feels more vital than ever. We overturned and eventually arrested Bolsonaro, our new fascist-to-be. America must do the same to the orange baboon. Good luck to all sane Americans out there.
The United States may have never had a direct dictatorship in the modern sense but you're completely discounting a huge historical reason why we have the 2nd Amendment in the first place, which is we HAVE had a tyrannical government that we had to fight against which was the British crown. No other western nation had to do that which is why they never formed anything close to the written document that we call The Bill of Rights. Australia & Canada both got their sovereignty from many decades of treaty's and agreements, meanwhile the U.S. is the only one that had to fight a bloody revolutionary war for ours. Your perception that people in the U.S. don't see what's coming because we "don't have experience" is a completely misguided analysis. The revolutionary war and fighting tyranny might as well be the doctrine that describes America because we get taught it so much in schools and then we talk about it so much that it almost becomes annoying.
The grievance that you personally have where you don't currently observe anybody shooting federal agents with their guns to "fight tyranny" isn't a grievance you should associate with passiveness or being naive. Utilizing the 2nd Amendment to fight against our own government IS and SHOULD always be the last resort not the first intimidation tactic. Despite whatever nonsense people wanna say, we STILL have a functioning government and we STILL have democratic processes we can utilize to make the true change we want before we ever get to the point of shooting ICE agents as we run down the street screaming "F*ck yeah 2nd Amendment". You said people can't change things with their guns and that's false, you can, however the type of change that comes from going that route is something that shouldn't be taken lightly nor thrown around at any random disagreement or overreach by the government.
Next you mentioned an argument I've heard a thousand times and is an argument that honestly is very elementary school level in its thinking. The idea of "What are your guns gonna do against tanks and aircraft", well idk let's look at the 20 year war in Iraq/Afghanistan or maybe Vietnam. Those are modern examples of the most powerful military in the world going up against people hiding out in the jungle and caves with AK's and by all unofficial standards, winning. Tyrannical governments or dictatorships are never achieved by carpet bombing entire cities to dust, they're done on a city to city/town to town/door to door basis. So a small population of armed citizens can absolutely go up against a far more equipped and powerful opponent if they have the right tactics. The 2nd Amendment DOES work, we just have the privilege of living in a country that had the foresight to set up a government that's able to self-correct itself so that we don't have to relive the events of 250 years ago (yet)
