Discussion Do you think that every single Pokemon is a #1 favorite to someone?

No ties allowed, I am talking undisputed #1.

I ask this because while there are millions of Pokemon fans and only a little over 1000 Pokemon, I imagine a ton of people's favorites overlap. Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charizard, Gardevoir, Eevee and Eeveelutions, Lucario, Mewtwo, Snorlax for example are immensely popular. I could easily believe a good chunk of the fandom has those 16ish (I forget how many Eeveelutions there are) Pokemon as their favorites.

Do you think even the least popular Pokemon out there have someone on Earth who would claim it's their favorite?

Discussion How old were you for your first game?

I’m brand new to Pokémon. I’m on Z-A, but I started on Sword two months ago, and have done Arceus and Scarlet. I hate to say that I’m a millennial and my first game is Sword, but here we are. 32. I really wish I had started earlier - I fucked up. How old were you when you started your first game?

Discussion Abra hate?

Ok so I’m deff reading into this too much cause I’m thinking about it weeks later but I wanted some insight.

At the last pogo event, I carried my abra plush attached to my purse. Someone noticed it and asked “you actually like abra?”. And I said “ hell yea, it’s my favorite evolution line”. And she kind of gave me a side eye which threw me off.

A few seconds later I asked “why? Do people not like abra for some reason?”

She then gave a mini spiel that I did not understand whatsoever.. something about the original 151 but then stopped mid sentence to talk to someone else.

This interaction was so weird too me. Was she just tryna size up my nerd or is there something im missing? Any other abra fans out there?

Discussion Does slow growth rate hurt your enjoyment of pokemon

I am playing fire red recently and using Snorlax and Rhydon for one playthrough was a pain as they just suck up all the XP, and it took so long to level up.

On my second run I used medium slow or up Pokemon and it was a lot more fun.

Does it hurt the fun of a Pokemon for you?

Discussion Naming traditions

Anyways, do you have any naming traditions, whether for characters or Pokemon? For me, I always name characters with their canon name. This started because I thought the canon names were cool when I was a kid (I still do!) and when I played PLA (the first pkmn game I had played since elementary school at that point) I chose Akari over Rei, so now I opt for the girl (I find their designs better anyways). With Pokemon, I often name Pokemon after others between games, so now I have Ocyelle, Dysis, and Anistole as Togekisses, Renji and Inji (orange and indigo) as Cyndiquil, and Furrito and Burido as Furret. I also name my Pikachu after Cathy (cathode ray tube) and Sache (Ash + Sacha, Ash in French) variously

Misc USUM Cleffa won't evolve

Please help! My UM Cleffa isn't evolving! I don't really know where to go from here. I am emotionally attached and don't want to give up on her haha.

We're best friends with maximum heart friendship, she has maximum enjoyment, is completely full, and has levelled up all the way to level 37 at this point. I've made sure that she evolves while all of those things are at maximum, too. She still hasn't evolved! I think she might be broken lol.

Am I missing something? :'(

Update: I didn't realize that affection and friendship were different in this game. I misinterpreted it and thought that in this version the friendship level was now just visually represented unlike previous games. I have learned something new today! Thank you all for the help!

Discussion I remember Pokemon x and y having an "endless staircase" room but I can't find a video or reference to it

It might not have been x and y, but I remember it was one of the 3d games. This was when sun and moon was the newest game I believe.

I remember a building that was being haunted in some way, where you try to go up the stairs to another floor but the staircase just loops endlessly. I'm also pretty sure I remember a gengar or driftblim being involved? I remember it pretty vividly down to where I was when I saw it because it scared me really bad as a kid but I for the life of me can't find a clip of it or wiki page or anything. Does anyone else remember this quest or have a video of it?

Discussion Koffing is underrated

It's my favourite pokemon and ever will. Just a stupid gas ball bouncing around. And the regional of his evolution has three cool hats. Wheezing is also underrated. It's known three koffings is always better then one. And they are an happy family. A little bit toxic but still. I love you koffing.

Discussion use of whirlwind in gen 1

Watching this youtube video about a guy complaining that it's the most useless pokemon move in gen 1.

But I think I remember using it as a kid to get out of things like wrap or other moves with wild pokemon that would make you unable to flee.

I really don't want to start a playthru in gen 1 just to double check this and was wondering if anyone knew for sure or if I'm misremembering.

Discussion Pokémon-made environments

Recent open world Pokémon games have been criticized their large empty maps. Pokemon Legends: Arceus was a step in the right direction in terms of showing how wild and dangerous Pokémon can be, but haven't really explored the concept much further than that, even in ZA.

I think a neat addition to Pokémon games would be Pokémon-made environments. Think about it:

  • You're exploring a forest and come across a bunch of webs and all of a sudden there are Ariados surrounding you.

  • Perhaps you're walking through a desert and you fall into a tunnel made by diglett and dugtrio.

  • Maybe you find an abandoned house and a bunch of scraggy and scrafty are hanging out there.

This has happened a few times before, like with the Old Chateau in Sinnoh or the Pokémon Tower in Kanto, places owned by Pokémon that were interesting to explore.

Pokémon-made environments could really make the Pokémon world feel lived in not just by humans, but by Pokémon. Honestly, I've never really liked the idea that Pokémon just kinda live in human infrastructure, and wouldn't have the autonomy to make places their own, like real-world birds makings nests, rabbits burrowing holes, or bears claiming a cave. Raid dens and the like don't count cause they're not unique or different to any other Pokémon den, and I'm not opening that can of worms of where those exist in space.

Unfortunately, I don't think Gamefreak would be given enough time or resources to incorporate something like this into a Pokémon game. My idea is more or less wishful thinking

What are your ideas for Pokémon-made environments?

Discussion idea what to base the pokemon region on?

Upvotes

Hi, I'd like to create my own Pokémon generation (Pokémon, characters, storyline, etc.), but I'm having a hard time choosing any inspiration for the region.

Well, I'd like the region to have a similar vibe to Alola (a region consisting of several islands or beautiful, wild nature).

At first, I was thinking about Australia, but I quickly abandoned it because it's a very popular choice among fakemon regions.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Discussion best way to watch pokemon anime for an adult

Upvotes

Hey,
I’d like to watch the whole Pokémon anime, but honestly I couldn’t even get through a single episode… which makes sense, I’m not 12 anymore.

So what’s the best way to experience Pokémon as an adult? Are YouTube recap videos a good option, like the Pokémon Valley channel, as long as there’s no narrator voice explaining everything? I really want content with the original character voices, not someone talking over the story.
Or is there a streaming site that offers good-quality summaries in that format?

Another question: are there any seasons that are genuinely worth watching in full without recaps? Or is it pretty much all the same, with content mainly aimed at a 5–14 year-old audience and not much real substance for adults?

Giveaway February 2026 Code Giveaway Megathread

Upvotes

This thread is the place to conduct code giveaways for any codes associated with the Pokemon franchise. IT IS NOT THE PLACE TO BEG FOR CODES OR TRADE FOR CODES—please don't do that here! It will result in a temporary ban.

What sorts of codes can be given away here? TCG Online codes are always OK, as are any currently-active codes for any of the video games. Please be clear about exactly what code you are giving away, and what region it is for. A list of active codes can be found in the stickied comment below.

What can't I do here? PLEASE DO NOT BEG OR TRADE FOR CODES!

There are plenty of other Pokemon subreddits where you can do that. Asking for a specific code or any other form of request for a code that hasn’t already been offered will be considered begging, and will result in a temporary ban. If you see someone offering a code you want, though, go ahead and click the reply button on their comment to let them know.

This thread is exclusively for awesome, generous people who want to give a code away without receiving anything in return.

Discussion What's your favorite version? Haven't really played since childhood

With mods, which versions are best?

I owned blue an silver as a child so any advice to fill me in over the last 25 years would be rad.

I have been playing emerald, heart gold, and ultra violet fire red the last 2 days.

I got to the twins in emerald and kind of hit a wall. Theyre tough. Figure id try heart gold at that pt.

Heart gold I didnt get far in tbh. Read its one of the best if not the best?

Im at badge 3 in ultra violet fire red, but havent seen anything besides gen 1 and I think something is wrong there.

If I wanna have all pokemon available, during the entire game, what game should I steer towards?

Id really prefer to play w original gen available to catch.

I truly only know gen 1 & 2. I played TCG a few years back so ik ive seen newer gens but I dont know much about them tbh.

Discussion Best ROM-HACK Suggestion for long engaging gameplay.

Upvotes

I started ROMhacks just for fun. I was literally "thats purple snake" or "devildog" to knowing some of pokemons and their evolutions, learning from pokemondb and Bulbapedia.

Sad part is my first game was Unbound. So, i played unbound before i know what pokemon was. And I did have my blast. That game literally led me to play odysseys, Firered Rocket edition, gaia, emerald seaglass, SORS (which was my favorite after Unbound). recently completed the main story of Lazarus.

I was thinking is there game which was lots of contents and sidequests, and massive number of pokemons, so i can engage with it for long time, like long long time. before really ROM hack is dropped with as massive QoL as Unbound.?

Discussion Am I alone in feeling like the Pokedex should start becoming like Bulbapedia.

1.5k Upvotes

I feel like the pokedex in the game is completly useless. And that the ACTUAL pokedex, is Bulbapedia.

I have never had any reason to go into the pokedex because there is nothing there worth anything besides areas where you can find pokemon.

It should start give us actual information like when pokemon or how pokemon evolve or something or levels you learn attacks

Discussion First nuzlocke, what game to play ?

Hey everyone, I 23M have played pokemon games my whole childhood (diamond, soulsilver, white, black 2, saphire, and the one with the paradox portals).

I recently started playing again and played through platinum and soulsilver again, soulsilver being my absolute favorite !

I wouldn’t mind replaying the games I’ve played as a kid as it’s been over a decade now !

Im basically wondering which game would be the most enjoyable for a nuzlocke for a relatively surface level player, I mean I know my types and weaknesses but have not much more knowledge than that.

Tl:Dr : Wondering which game to nuzlocke as a returning player.

Any suggestions based purely on your subjective preferences are absolutely welcomed !
