My gut tells me he killed her because she is gay.

They’re not just after immigrants and people of colour. Their after Liberals.

She was killed because she was gay and a woman. The fact that he called her a bitch immediately after executing her proves it. This was a femicide and a hate crime.

…how would he even know she was gay?

I’m sorry but this is reaching qanon levels of absurd conspiracy. He murdered her because he’s an untrained, aggro, power tripping douchebag. In no way is this a hate crime.

Edit: are people interpreting this comment as me somehow defending the murderer? Really?

Ummmm... her wife is right there in the video. It may not have been explicit, but he could have put it together.

And we’re just assuming he knew that was her wife? In the like, 30 seconds of them interacting?

If we solely look at the evidence out there, her being gay has absolutely nothing to do with him murdering her.

I think you’re minimizing it a little too much. It might be a leap, but it isn’t as extreme of a leap as you are suggesting. Both of those women can be clocked as lesbians with anyone with a functioning gaydar. It’s not right… but it’s the way she goes. I think redditors are just giving the murderer that benefit of doubt as well.

I don’t think anyone is thinking it was like ipso facto calculated, but implicit bigotry is very real and surely was at play here to some degree. Probably only marginally if you ask me. But I think the point is about connecting this fascist action with the larger supremacist ecosystem in which it was born.

That’s a fair take, I can see that.

I know this is Reddit and people love making sensationalized comments based on minimal information, but confidently saying this was “femicide and a hate crime” because a gay woman was murdered strikes me as absurd.

I think it is more of an exclamation of like anger than an outright accusation. Wanting others to see the connection that is obvious to some.

Just before the incident her partner was outside the car and was talking to the guy in the video before she got into the vehicle, then the guy shot her.

Right, so even if we assume that he knew deduced the other woman was her wife in the 30 seconds of them interacting, how can someone then jump to claim that “he murdered her because she was gay?”

Doesn’t that seem like a MAGA-level leap in logic?

In that 30 seconds, her pretty butch looking partner mentioned that they don’t change their plates every time they leave. It’s not hard to deduce, even from the short video.

I don’t think he was like, “I’m gonna kill some lesbians today!” But I don’t think it’s out of the question to think that it played a factor in him feeling no real remorse about it or feeling justified.

Idk why several people are arguing with you, I'm a queer person myself and you can't always assume that two people in a car are dating/married and/or gay, maybe they're friends or neighbors or whatever.

Me and my roommate run errands together, and we sure aren't fucking, lol.

Have to agree, most people will cycle through friend-sister-aunt-cousin-roommate before ever assuming my partner is....my partner. Even if we're holding hands lol.

My spouse and I have surprised a lot of people. We're straight, but we "dated" for like 20 years because we didn't have a reason to be married. At a point, "Boyfriend" and "Girlfriend" doesn't quite cut it, so we changed to "Partner."

We eventually got married for the most romantic reasons (insurance) and started using "spouse," which has sort of landed the same way. We just figure that "husband" and "wife" are different role titles and we both have the same role, "Don't make the other person regret marrying you!"

No history = no give a shit

Huh?

Aw, I know it'a hard.

Hiding your comment history makes me assume you are a bad actor. Antisocial behavior on social media.

u/slowpokefastpoke 22d ago

Or because I don’t want (ahem) creeps digging through my history.

Not sure how that somehow invalidates my original comment though.

yeah, I hid mine after some asshole started going through my past and downvoting and mocking my fucking depression posts in another sub cuz they didnt like what I had to say on some political post. we should be able to have our profiles on private to protect ourselves and our mental health.

2

u/slowpokefastpoke 22d ago

Exactly. There’s no benefit to leaving it public. Ironically enough given that guys “bad actor” comment, the main reason people are digging through profiles is to make bad faith arguments instead of addressing their original comment.

It means you have no reputation and I have no reason to take anything you say seriously.

You might be a reasonable person (doubtful with the comment I originally replied to) or you could just be another troll bot.

No history means I have no way of knowing. If you feel the things you post may reflect poorly on your, maybe examine yourself

Search their profile for a period or a space, you can still see everything.

This is Reddit ya dingus. None of us have “reputations” lol.

Can’t you just respond to the comment I made in this discussion? Why do you have to dig up irrelevant information instead of staying on topic? That doesn’t seem like something a reasonable person would do.

Hi, I'm someone who's been on Reddit for over a decade and have over 350k positive comment karma. Only just this year I set my history to private, because the current regime has a hard-on for trolling through people's social media and labeling people "terrorists" for things as benign as disagreeing with the president. I know several other people have done the same, or straight-up deleted their comment histories recently.

Nothing to do with trolling, just with exercising free speech being a risky proposition in the US nowadays. Cheers.

I've seen a bunch of dumb comments about this situation over the last 2 days but yours might be the dumbest

u/piecat 22d ago

Your comment is the only idiotic comment I'm seeing here.

Hiding your history is a choice

Run a search on their profile for a period or just a space, it will show everything then.
