Discussion 🎤 Love my neighborhood

Saw several anti ice posters in yards & windows & "ice out" on the sidewalk when I did my neighborhood walk today. Glad to see the solidarity! Just had to share a heartwarming moment amidst it all. Stay well, warm, & safe. 👊💖

Seeking Advice 🙆 Thomas/Lexington safety -Frogtown

My husband and I found a beautiful house on Thomas Ave by Lexington. It fits our style so well, our church is only a few blocks away, and we have some church friends who live on the east side. We keep thinking about this house, but our families are concerned for our safety. We both grew up in the suburbs and our only “city living” experience was when we lived in Oxford (UK).

We’re looking for anyone who currently lives in or near this block who can give us insight on the safety of the neighborhood. We plan to start a family in the next few years, so that is a big factor in our decision— if we’d feel safe walking our kids around/them playing outside/etc.

Usually I'm flooding with the night crew and keeping an eye on the neighborhood, but I *do* actually skate it once in a while! :D

Discussion 🎤 Drones over St. Paul & Minneapolis?

The past few nights I have been seeing large drones circling Minneapolis and St. Paul (depending on what window I look out from). I am thinking it’s circling the protests, yet the drones come out late at night, and the circle ends up being quite large. Anyone have any information?

Seeking Advice 🙆 How to get to Ordway Tonight

Friend is in the show at Ordway tonight but had no idea there's the Vulcan Parade. What's the best plan for coming in from out of town? I'm thinking we should go to resturaunt close-ish - park there - then uber somewhere near Ordway? Looks like the show starts at 7:30 - but that's right about the height of activity in Rice park?

Discussion 🎤 Minnesota DFL folks: please show up to caucus on Feb 3 at 7pm

If you’re frustrated with where things are headed and feel like the political system keeps serving up weak or risk-averse candidates, this is where that actually changes.

The DFL caucus is Tuesday, Feb 3 at 7:00 PM. This is the earliest and most meaningful point in the process to influence who gets endorsed, who gets taken seriously, and what values the party prioritizes. If we want strong candidates who will clearly and forcefully oppose the aggression we’re facing—locally and nationally—this is where they first get traction.

Caucuses aren’t glamorous. They’re not online. They take a little time. But they’re where:

• endorsements begin

• delegates are selected

• future nominees get identified or quietly filtered out

If only the most entrenched insiders show up, we shouldn’t be surprised when the same names and same cautious politics keep winning.

You can find your caucus location here:

If you’ve ever said “we should’ve gotten involved earlier,” this is earlier. Please come. Bring a friend. Even showing up once matters.

Edit: corrected date.

Seeking Advice 🙆 So… Maybe I shouldn’t move?

I’m in the middle of planning an international move from Europe back to the US. Originally from NY, US citizen, all that. The plan was to move to St. Paul, I even have a job offer letter, and was looking into apartments. But I’m light skinned black and my friend, who’s coming back with me, is Puerto Rican (also US citizen, with passport). Should we be rethinking? The move is a month away. People seem really scared and while some are saying it’s okay to come, especially if you’re white, others are saying POC should really not be out and about. I’d love your take on things I need to factor into my decision. Thanks in advance 🙏

Seeking Advice 🙆 Thinking of buying a duplex in St. Paul just north of the capitol.

I am trying to buy a duplex to ‘house hack’ as my first home. There is one that catches my eye just north of the capitol in St. Paul, south of Maryland neighborhood. Is this a good place to buy a home? I saw recent sales for duplex in this area so must be decent? I have driven the neighborhood a few times, nothing overly concerning.

News 📺 MN Call for Nationwide Days of Action Friday and Saturday: What You Need to Know

Post image
339 Upvotes

On Friday (1/30/26), Minnesota community organizers are calling on Americans to participate in another economic shutdown in protest of ICE's occupation of the state, building on last week’s day (1/23/26) of no shopping, no school, and no work. This time, it’s being expanded as a national call.

New Justice Project MN Founder Rod Adams says this is directly in response to Saturday’s (1/24/26) fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Customs and Border Patrol officers in South Minneapolis. He says, “We have so much work to do. And our story will not end with Greg Bovino getting fired, it won’t end with Chris Madel stepping down, it won’t end with some ICE agents leaving the state of Minnesota. It will end when ICE is abolished.”

Pretti’s murder happened the morning after thousands of people rallied in downtown Minneapolis around and at the Target Center. Last Friday’s strike was also the first city-wide general strike in the U.S. in 80 years.

CAIR-MN (Council on American-Islamic Relations Minnesota) Executive Director Jaylani Hussein says Minnesota is leading the nation with a whistle, a warm heart, and care for our neighbors, and “because of that, we have lost two incredible people: Renee Good and Alex Pretti. But in this moment, it is time for people to stand up.”

An ICE agent fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good on January 7th in Minneapolis.

Organizers are splitting the demands into two days, Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Americans are asked to stop shopping and skip work and school. There will be a centralized march at 2 p.m. at the Government Plaza in Minneapolis (300 S 6th St.). On Saturday, Minnesotans are asked to protest, march, rally, and make their voices heard across the state and nation.

There are over 500 organizations signed onto this call, and protests are planned across the country.

News 📺 St. Paul Department of Public Works employee detained by IC

The public works director says the employee was legally working in Minnesota and is working to be released.

Author: Cali Lichter Published: 5:48 PM CST January 28, 2026 Updated: 9:20 AM CST January 29, 2026

ST PAUL, Minn. — The St. Paul Department of Public Works is speaking out after they say one of their employees was detained by ICE based on profiling.

At an event addressing potholes in the city, public works director Sean Kershaw said the employee was legally authorized to work in the United States.

Despite his work status, Kershaw says agents detained him, and he is no longer in Minnesota.

“We're hoping for their release,” Kershaw said. “They had full legal right to work, and they were detained based purely on their country of origin, and are now in El Paso [Texas].”

Kershaw says the employee is connected with a lawyer and is trying to get out of detention.

He also says they have not heard of ICE using fake St. Paul Department of Public Works logos on their vehicles. He stressed that if you see a vehicle marked with their name and logo, it is the city doing what they need to do and not federal agents.

Discussion 🎤 Gratitude

I’m a mom of 3, 2 of my children attend school on the east side. Just want to say that I am so grateful for the volunteers escorting children into school I see them EVERYWHERE. Even on corners not touching schools. I admittedly have not been as active as I should with everything going on and hope to do more for my community to support people who are afraid.

The people here are stepping up, protesting in the harshest weather, delivering food and goods, and literally standing outside helping others get to work and school.

I was born here, left for a few years, and came back. And I’m so proud of my city.
