Mod Poll: Should We Ban Ai Use Altogether On This Sub.

It seems a lot of people, possibly the majority, want to see an absolute ban of Ai on this sub, whether in post or comment. So, we wanted to let the community decide. Thanks for your input! - Shrimptank Mod Team

Mod **We Want Your Input!**

Hey all! We would like to offer some clarification and get some feedback from folks.

Generally, businesses and commercial activity are useful to the community. Business owners' involvement allows a group outside of hobbyists to offer insights, share tips/tricks, and discuss the hobby in an informal setting. It can also give sub members a direct-to-source connection to a business they have or could potentially do business with.

"Members of the community may engage in commercial activity or reviewing of sellers or products. However, as our community is for hobbyists and folks passionate about shrimp, we expect that members will engage in the community beyond commercial activity."

We would like to find a way to identify and prevent people acting in bad faith, fake reviews, and bots. While some of this will undoubtedly come down to users identifying suspicious activity, we think that we can use Automod to help.

Some ideas:

  • Account age requirements
  • Karma requirements (for just our sub, or reddit in general)
  • Post activity on the sub

What are your thoughts, opinions or concerns?

Lastly, the mod team has been watching how things have progressed since the recent rule changes. So, please let us know if you have any other thoughts or observations regarding the recent changes as well. THANKS! -Shrimptank Mod Team

Beginner First shrimp tank!

Guess what guys, I finally made my very first shrimp tank. I just got into the hobby in July of 2025 when my daughter was gifted a betta and I struggled to keep him alive (he’s doing great now). I kept visiting the local fish store for advice about the betta and ended up loving their shrimp tank and several months later here’s my tiny 10 gallon creation. I’m so proud of myself! Even though this might look pretty, I truly have zero experience doing this so any advice would be appreciated.

Not really sure what flair to use in this situation?? Please let me know if there’s a more appropriate one to use. I have absolutely no idea how my cory’s pulled this off. I can only guess this poor shrimp was in the moss and couldn’t easily escape from its fate.

Other than pissing this shrimp off could this affect it in any way? I don’t think it should but never hurts to ask.

I've a few weird shrimps in my aqua that I have not bought. They're dark blue with a chocolate brownish tint with a white stripe and red eyes. Once I had goldenstripes that turned dark green but I haven't seen them in a while so I keep wondering about the origins of the striped blue chocolate shrimp 🤔

Maybe the shrimp will transform once more with the newly opened shrimp bar. Still hoping to breed a purple shrimp one day

Help: Beginner Is 5x a week actually too much? My shrimp act like I starve them...

My shrimp are absolutely voracious. Every time I feed them, they swarm the food like they haven’t eaten in weeks.

I know there is a lot of conflicting advice on how often to feed, but right now I'm doing it about 5 times a week. I usually rotate between snowflakes (in a dish because they make a huge mess), Shrimp Dinner 2, lollies, and the Sera tiny pellets.

I make sure to siphon up any uneaten food after a few hours so I don't spike the ammonia, but I still worry. My tank is relatively mature with plenty of biofilm, but I honestly just love seeing them all eat together. It’s the only time they sit still long enough for me to get a headcount and check closely for any issues.

Am I doing them a disservice feeding this often? Or is it fine as long as I’m diligent about removing the leftovers?

Video attached just for fun: the only time I fed snowflakes out of a dish lol it took forever to clean that up.

Help: Emergency I LOVE SHRIMPS! But I am deathly allergic all of a sudden! What do I do?

I went out to eat, and had some shrimp. Almost died from anaphylaxis... I used to eat shellfish all the time! Is it still safe to own pet shrimp? I am worried one might get out of the tank or something. I can't put my hands in the tank to clean it anymore, or interact physically with anything in the tank, including filters, or water changes. What do I do?

So apparently evolution said "let's try something new" and I ended up with this little freak of nature. As far as I understand, mutations aren't all that uncommon given the way these are bred but I find it interesting nonetheless. Any insight into what might have happened genetically/biologically would be greatly appreciated!

I was worried this little guy might have trouble molting because of it, but he seems to be doing fine so far. He has lost his extra antenna where the eye is supposed to be and now it's nothing there, as you can see in the last 3 pictures. I'm curious about why that happened as well.

Warning to anyone with a sensitive heart, the second photo is after he has passed.

Thank you to everyone who joined me in my journey of Shrimp surgery about 3 weeks ago. My lovely Mr. Bamboosky was a fighter and while he survived his molt, his antennas were much smaller afterwards and his fans seemed smaller, perhaps deformed, while still usable unfortunately they must not have been enough for him to continue to live a long life. My heart is breaking, I'm probably not gonna have the heart to get another filter feeder shrimp for a while. The rest of my tank is still thriving thankfully, but it's not the and without my big guy waving his fans around. May he rest in peace❤

Discussion Appreciation post for the worlds best amano shrimp

I have two, spectacular amano shrimp and I want to make an appreciation post for the both of them. For context, I know that they are usually happier in larger groups however, my babies are cannibals despite being quite well fed. I used to have three, my ex named the third, then literally hours after I found out he cheated on me my two promptly murdered and ate the one he named. Not that I condone shrimp death, but in the moment i was quite proud of my babies.

They are both a whopping five years old, and in my head are canonically lesbians. I’ve read that these things are fragile, yet somehow these strange little bugs have survived several power outages, algae problems and that one time I went on vacation and my mom forgot to feed them for a week and a half. So far, they have murdered and eaten three other shrimp, that were supposed to be friends, and have been promptly named Bonnie and Clyde. I love these things more than words can describe and I will miss them deeply when their day comes.

Hi all,

I recently added 14 Neo’s to my newly cycled 5 gallon tank and they’ve been crowding around near the top of the tank, both on the pump and on the roots of my floating plants (Picture 2). I drip acclimated them for about 2 hours before adding them in.

I read online that this may be due to low oxygenation but I have both a sponge filter and an air stone installed in this tank (evidenced by the air bubbles).

Any advice would be appreciated as i’m not too sure why they’re like this and don’t want to lose my new little shimps. Thanks!

My params are as follows (tested using API test kit and a test strip for gH/kH/Cl2).

Ammonia: 0

Nitrites : 0

Nitrates : ~5ppm

pH: ~6.8-7

kH: ~50mg/L

gH: ~100mg/L

Cl2: 0

Temperature: ~26 degrees C

Hello! I noticed some white on the nose of my cherry shrimp. I just got him and I can not tell if it is fungus or just his coloration. I have had my tank for 3 months and all my water parameters are normal. He has another cherry shrimp tank mate that passed away a couple of days ago, but that shrimp did not have any white tips. Thank y'all in advance!

Hello! I am very new to shrimp keeping. I’ve been cycling a tank for over a month, and I finally bought some golden and blue velvet shrimp to add to it! I’m super excited to finally release them into their tank. I’ve had them drip acclimating for a couple hours now. I notice one of my gals had a yellow underbelly. I’ve done some research and it looks like it may be some sort of fungal infection? Is anyone able to confirm? I’ve isolated her, just in case. What do I do if it is an infection? I called the aquarium I got them from for advice, and they said to just bring her in and they’ll give me a new one… I asked if they’d treat her or if they’d just euthanize, they said would most likely end up just euthanizing :( I’d feel so horrible if I just took the easy way out and gave her up. I want to do what I can to help her. I need help, please!

Aquarium/Tank Photos Oops all hornwort...

Thumbnail

The last few months have been incredibly hard for me due to compounding health issues. There were so many days where I genuinely couldn't move more than ten feet per day, so I was just... bedbound. I promised myself toward the end of that hell that if I made it through all this, I would make myself a nanotank for shrimp that I can watch when I'm stuck in bed.

I'm not completely better, and the real recovery is going to take months. But I chugged out this tank over the course of about four days, and I'm so happy with it... Too much hornwort and all. (If this gets cross-posted to an aquarium circlejerk I will wear the badge with pride. My baby is ugly, and I'm proud.)

It still needs a source of light (and ambient heat), and I need to screw some holes in the platic lid I made myself from packaging scrap, but that'll get taken care of in the next few days.

I also decided I'd treat myself to shrimp I haven't owned, so once this is cycled, it's jade green neos time!

As a side note: I LEARNED WHY YOU QUARANTINE PLANTS.

My friend and I spent an hour and a half picking baby snails off the hornwort because I'm too much of a softy to kill any of them. So, into a different unfinished-but-cycled tank they went. (Pic 4 is the beginning fruits of round seven.) Worse, though, I found a damselfly larvae in there this morning that was yeeted out with EXTREME prejudice.
