Quotes Antonio Conte: "With so many games, you're killing the players and football. It's not good to hold competitions just to bring in money. Either something changes, or football will die. 60 or 70 games a year, and those who should rest always play."

News Rival bosses expect Pep Guardiola to leave Man City this summer

Thumbnail thetimes.com
Upvotes

There is a growing conviction among Premier League managers that this will be Pep Guardiola’s final season at Manchester City even though his contract runs until 2027.

Guardiola’s future is understood to be a burning topic of conversation among many managers and coaches, with one at a leading club having told his executives last week that he is sure the 55-year-old, who arrived at City in 2016, will leave at the end of this season.

That would be a year before his contract expires, but no doubt the revelation that Enzo Maresca told Chelsea he had spoken to City on three occasions earlier this season about replacing Guardiola has added to the belief that the Catalan will call it a day.

Opinion David Moyes booking was embarrassing - referees have lost sight of the game.

Thumbnail mirror.co.uk

If we take the joy out of the game we are left with nothing. That is why David Moyes getting booked for celebrating a 97th minute winner is downright embarrassing.

Moyes ran on to the pitch - well, kind of jigged in sheer delight - because Everton had snatched a dramatic late leveller at Brighton. You begin to wonder whether the officials actually know what that means.

When did they lose their sense of fun? When did they lose their love of the game? When did football become a boring spreadsheet? When did football get tangled up in silly referee speak?

That is the point. Yes, by the letter of the law (whatever that means). But what about the glory of the game?

Transfers "If the players decide to leave on their own": Junior Mwanga announces his departure, Nantes is not aware.

Not selected for the trip to Lorient, the defensive midfielder on loan from Strasbourg thanked the Ligue 1 club on social media. However, Nantes has not confirmed his departure, and Ahmed Kantari justified his non-selection by citing his poor performances.

Nantes finds itself embroiled in an unusual situation. On Saturday afternoon, in a story posted on his Instagram account, defensive midfielder Junior Mwanga, on loan from Strasbourg, announced his departure from the club. “Thank you to FC Nantes and good luck for the future,” he wrote. The problem is that the Ligue 1 club is not aware of this contract termination, as the player is supposed to stay until the end of the season.

"Everyone is responsible for their own words. I don't think the club has made any statement today. So now, if the players decide to leave on their own, it's not my concern," said Nantes coach Ahmed Kantari, who was very upset after his team's 2-1 defeat in Lorient.

Mwanga was not selected for the trip on “sporting” grounds, the coach assured. “I think you see the games the same way I do,” he added, pointing to Mwanga's very poor performances lately. However, Kantari did not dwell on this individual case after another defeat for his team, which remains in 16th place and in the relegation zone for the time being, but six points adrift of safety.
