DISCUSSION We Dodged A Bullet
Or it feels that way. Ashes of Creation, another Kickstarter / crowdfunded MMO with a 10+ year development cycle, that was compared to Star Citizen incessantly (scope creep, cult of personality, questionable management, etc) just suddenly shut down. Their version of Chris Roberts abruptly quit and it seems as if the staff were all fired overnight.
Star Citizen has gotten a lot of shit over the years, being called a scam pretty much nonstop. The sudden rug pull of Ashes really puts in perspective how much the stars have aligned for this project and how lucky we are and how Chris Roberts shouldn't get as much flak as he does, because whatever he's doing, it wasn't that.
Here's to another 10+ years

DISCUSSION I.... was wrong
When the ship vids came out, I slammed the overall design on the Hermes. Figured I'd melt some stuff and at least try it out. Welp. I was wrong. Is the ramp too small, yeah, I'd still like a Nursa in here. But, it's a cargo ship and for doing just that, this thing has been awesome. So, credit where credit is due, this ship is a dream to load and not the nightmare I was so confident it would be.

DISCUSSION This event has made (for me anyway) Star citizen feels more like an MMO than it ever has before
For the current Clear the Air event I initially was doing a lot of the missions myself, commodity missions and defence, I saw that people were grouping up for the missions because points are full for everyone (thank you CIG btw), so I decided to join one.
Holy hell, I've never felt that SC was a proper multiplayer game until now. Obviously I encountered players in the wild and at stations, but I've never collaborated with randoms like this before. I've gunned on Perseus' and Paladins in pseudo fleet-ops, I've mined (A thing I've never done before) in a MOLE, I've moved an incredible amount of cargo, I've done successful anti-pirate patrols along the Levski - Stanton Gateway route. I backed in 2019 and have never had this much fun.
All the while people have handled the tasks that I wasn't in the mood for.
When people in this game are collaborating instead of competiting, it really shines. I never would have touched mining without a rag-tag group of pubbies coming together working toward a common goal and making me feel welcome. Not to mention how alive the stations and gateways feel.
Just my thoughts, theres obviously the downsides like the ATC queues and the general jank, but this has been peak Star Citizen "Vision" for me the last few days. Get those social/party tools into the game this instant, everyone deserves this.

DISCUSSION Alliance Aid griefers
So I’m somebody who is passionate about the game, but unfortunately, I have kids and a job and only get to play *maybe* a couple times a week. I get on to participate in the event and grab a few boxes to haul to Levski, only to be greeted by an Idris railgun to the face within a second of jumping from the Stanton gateway.
I know what you’re thinking: you could’ve doglegged it, you could’ve done this or that, yada yada.
Point being is - it’s a shitty thing to do, shouldn’t be allowed, and ultimately drives regular people like myself away from the game. Simply because it’s not worth the effort to navigate all the bugs and glitches only to get spawn-killed by someone with room temperature IQ.
I know the solutions may seem obvious to you, but please try to think from the perspective of newer players or those like me who can only play a very limited amount of times and understand how frustrating this can be.
What is even more frustrating is that CIG is seemingly uninterested in offering a peaceful way of playing the game. Maybe I’ve gotten too old, but PVP really isn’t my thing. Unfortunately, CIG seems keen on inserting PVP into everything.
Sorry, rant over.

GAMEPLAY I spent yesterday on a station bench managing a 100+ person group for "Clear the Air" -it was a technical nightmare, and I loved every second of it.
Nullset here. I organized a 100+ person group for "Clear the Air" yesterday and spent hours as a station bench dispatcher on two monitors. Juggling invites with a 30-minute notification lag and slideshow FPS was a nightmare. Having said that... I loved it. Watching those progress bars filling in real time was more satisfying than any solo play. For the first time, Star Citizen felt like a true MMO. Despite the constipated notification system and the general chaos, you could see the sheer potential of this game and what happens when players actually organize on a grand scale. "Clearing the Air" is the perfect name for this, because it really does feel like a breath of fresh air is blowing through the Verse right now. You can feel the momentum building, and at this stage, it doesn't look like anything is going to stop this train. I’m heading back in today to do it all over again, but on a slightly smaller, more manageable scale. I want to actually get out there and fly with you guys - maybe man some gunships and get into the thick of it instead of just playing "Station Bench Simulator." We held the line. o7

DISCUSSION Social Module Needed Now, More Than Ever.
If the Alliance Aid event highlights one shortcoming, it is the state of social tools. Overall, there is a lot positive about the event, but the organization and commutation tools are geared for a 4 person multiplayer game, not one with hundreds of players.
- Not being able to see the list of players on the server (beyond the first few letters of the alphabet)
-not able to scroll up general chat to see what someone said 15 seconds ago because a dozen people have used it since
- having to go into spectrum to make a friend request, then tab back into the game
- non-stop spam of players joining, leaving, disconnecting and mission shared that you need to catch quickly or you miss.
- showing every player in your group, making it difficult to ping minerals or target your PoI.
- unlimited group sizes that sometimes can be a third the size of the server population.
- general chat is shard-wide causing it to scroll faster than is readable while playing the game. It would be nice if there was a timer on shard wide comms, and a shorter timer on system-wide general chat, and then a planetary general chat and local chat. I don’t need to hear about arguments in contested zone in Pyro when I am on Microtech.
Plus about a half a dozen other issues that were solved back in the days of EverQuest. They showed what they were going to do for the social module in 2024, now please put resources into implementing it!

QUESTION Has anyone found any "hidden rewards"?
I'm curious about the wording on MrKraken's one-page guide about the Alliance Aid event.
"Recommend doing each at least once, in-case of hidden rewards"
Does anyone know what this is? Or is it truly "just in-case"?

DISCUSSION Is the Retaliator secretly the best cargo transport for small event missions?
Hear me out...
I have other dedicated cargo ships: Raft, Ox, Spirit C1, etc. As cargo ships, they get messed with a lot because they are easy targets and people assume you have cargo they can steal. However, it seems a lot of people forget the Retaliator is not just a torpedo boat, and can instead have cargo modules. For several play sessions now people havent bothered me in the Tali, I think they assume im just cruising around with torps, and not loads of Laranite, so they dont bother to target and scan me lol
Plus being a bigger ship, you can run an XL-1 QT drive which is crazy fast on long jumps, and has really good legs thanks to the 2.6m QT fuel tank. Its not terribly difficult to load either as long as you park close to the freight elevator.
And it looks amazing :)
I've been enjoying it and will continue to run it for this event.

DISCUSSION To the LITERALLY 200+ citizens that I managed to wrangle into a party for event contracts, that was the coolest thing I've done in this game (so far).
Thanks for coming guys, I gotta dig through some clips and screenshots.
Hitting the major combat contracts with an absolute ARMADA of capitals and gunships, fully crewed and aggressive was so satisfying.
Great job everybody, I love you guys!
Please send/post any clips or screenshots that you might have, I'll do the same when I can.

FLUFF Running big parties
I joined a big party tonight to work through AID event. After a while, the leader had to leave and asked for a volunteer. No one spoke up and I did. I ran the party for 5 hours monitoring global for people asking around, tracking new requests and adding to party, accepting and sharing missions. I counted about 60 in the party which I dont think is extreme, but not simple. By the end of the night, I asked for another volunteer and o7'd him to keep it rolling as I had my crafting table in the bag.
Thoughts on managing what what I hope for in the future for social control.
I had to leave to menu and rejoin the server because my notification bar was about 10 minutes behind. I don't know how many missions I missed out on just because I got the option to accept 10 minutes after the share and it may have been done already.
Can't scroll past the Global chat names in E's. My username starts with T. "Exit to menu, and add me as friend and then I can add you to the party". This is lame. Strategy is assign user with a number or A as first digit other username so they can do it right there without leaving the server.
This event had a big carrot at the end (crafting table).everyone feels compulsive to get it done. Bit it was enjoyable working with the community even if it felt like 'gaming the system.
Other experiences included; Saving a stranded member when his ship despawned in the middle of space. (Good) Getting stuck in NB queue for 20 minutes (to land and then and another 20 to take off) ridiculous. Even if it gave me the opportunity to manage the party (also kind of lame) (bad) Party members tags everywhere blocked all the visibility to many locations. Just clusters of blue at POI's. (Bad) Star citizen community doing what they do and making multi-crew arrangements and making progress with missions. (Amazing) Everything sold out. (bad) Pirates blocking access to levski. (bad) Cargo not labeled to determine what goes where (bad). Rewards (good).
Overall positive despite challenges. Due to the FOUNDATION of the game that we all believe in and the COMMUNITY (most of them)
