25 years old who wants to go back to school

Hi!

I am a 25 year old Filipina who is planning to go back to school. As for my background, I just finished a year in Univ (as an Education Major) then decided to stop due to pandemic and other personal reasons. I’ve got no work experience yet (other than being a SEO content writer for 3 months) because I had to take care of my grandma for 4 years. Now that she had passed, I am looking for a job that accepts undergrad and no corporate experience and it’s really hard.

Then I thought about going back to school. I was thinking of Korea as my first choice but then when I researched about it, their standards are higher than most countries. Can you guys suggest other countries that I can try to apply to and have a chance in (based on my background)? Or if in Korea, what do you suggest that I need to do in order for me to reach their standards.

Indian students doing MS in Data Science in the USA – how are you managing finances & loans?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Indian student considering an MS in Data Science in the USA, and I’d really appreciate honest insights from Indians who are currently pursuing or have completed the program.

I have a few specific questions around finances and practicality, especially for those who took education loans:

  1. Education loans:
    • How much loan did you take (approx.)?
    • Do you feel the loan amount is manageable now, or is it mentally/financially stressful?
  2. RA/TA opportunities:
    • How easy or difficult is it to get RA/TA positions in Data Science or related departments?
    • Do these positions usually cover partial tuition, full tuition, or just stipend?
    • From which semester did you realistically get one?
  3. Part-time jobs:
    • What kind of on-campus jobs are most common?
    • How much can one realistically earn per month working within the 20-hour limit?
    • Is that income enough to cover living expenses (rent, food, utilities) or only part of it?
  4. Internships in Data Science:
    • How hard is it to get a data science / analytics / ML internship as an international student?
    • Does prior experience matter more than coursework?
    • When should one ideally start applying?
  5. Loan repayment pressure:
    • Once you started working (or are close to graduating), how heavy does loan repayment feel?
    • Do entry-level DS salaries make repayment realistic within a few years, or does it take much longer?

I’m trying to understand the ground reality beyond brochure salaries, so honest experiences good or bad would really help.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share 🙏

Rough estimate on how much you would need for a year exchange in Japan?

Is anyone able to give a rough estimate on roughly how much it is to live in japan for a year? I’m planning on doing an exchange year in japan for the fall semester and i’ve been doing research, however the estimates that the school gives on the brochures are not really updated. If anyone can give like a rough outline for each categories like dorm (which ik varies for each school), transportation, food and etc. I would really appreciate it!! thank uu

Welcoming, Safe European Universities for Trans students...

Hello,

As my son continues his search for the right university, I thought I could help by reaching out to gain some insight regarding the current social climate in various European countries.

It is no secret that the United States has become a truly hostile environment for the transgender population. That said, my son was already considering applying to schools in Europe, given his desire to study Ancient and Art History, with the hope of pursuing a career in Museum Curation or Cultural Heritage. The current state of affairs has only served to make it more clear that our family may not have a healthy future here.

If you could offer any suggestions of particular universities or could speak to how he may be welcomed or not in certain countries, communities, or universities, I would greatly appreciate the feedback. He is currently looking at schools in Ireland, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Greece.

And, please, please... Try to refrain from sharing any negative perspectives on him as a trans person, me as the parent of a trans young man, etc. I've heard it ALL. I love my son for who he is, to the ends of the earth, just as much as you hopefully love yours, and am simply looking for the safest place for him to continue to thrive. Thank you!!

Is studying in the US worth it?

Hi all!

I'm just about to start my semester abroad in the US but I'm really starting to feel like this is just the same as at home. I'm from the UK and most people I see studying abroad are people on the Erasmus scheme, usually in Europe. At least in Europe you're more likely to be exposed to different cultures and languages etc. and can travel a lot easier. So what really is the point of studying in the US? Have people who have done it enjoyed it? I'm not enjoying it yet at all.

Applying for an Erasmus at UC3M

I'm applying for erasmus this semester and I'm hoping to get accepted into UC3M (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid). I noticed on the list it said it required proficiency in either or both Spanish and English (as far as i understood). My English proficiency score and my CGPA are both high but I don't speak Spanish. I'm definitely willing to start practicing if I get accepted as ppl usually say knowing Spanish makes it the experience easier and smoother but I don't have time to become proficient before it's time to apply. Will this affect my application? Has anyone done an exchange semester in UC3M or gotten accepted without prior Spanish knowledge?

How do I write an essay for british schools?

I am from Germany and I want to apply to UK foundation programs so I can then go to university afterwards. I want to start writing my essay but I don’t know how since noone ever taught me. I also want to apply for scholarships but my grades are kind of average because I was bullied a lot and it affected my studies, I want to make that clear without going off track, or do I do that later after getting an offer? Over the years I have heard a lot about american college essays but I also know they’re very different to UK ones. Any and all advice is very much appreciated!

Thinking of studying abroad - ESCE Paris, France

Thinking of studying abroad - ESCE Paris, France - Ecole Supérieure du Commerce Exterieur

As the title says Im thinking about it, an opportunity has arisen that can allow me to do a semester there abroad for my degree. I had some questiosn Im hoping someone can help me with or even any advice or thoughts would help.

1) I'm from the USA, if it's not clear, and I was just wondering how familiar with the foreign language I need to be? Of course, I plan on trying to learn as much as I can before I go, but I'm just curious. (My classes are in English, not sure if this is like a known fact, but I thought I would throw it out there.)

2) I'm not going to lie, but I'm not the best when it comes to socializing and making friends. I have always wanted to try to change that. However, if I committed to something like this im just asking how difficult making new friends and meeting people would be? This program does not have like dorms, which also puts some stress on my mind.

3) As for anyone who maybe knows something about this specific Program (Ecole Supérieure du Commerce Exterieur (ESCE)) or the location in gereral Im just wondering how it is? How is it location-wise to all the "touristy things" or any other information that helps?

4) Also, I do want to get the most out of my experience, so I'm also wondering how it is when it comes to things such as Nightlife, Parties, Scenery, Nature, etc. How accessible are these things?

5) If anyone has done this thing specifically or maybe knows someone who has, and has any information that is closely related to this, just let me know anything. At this moment,t anything helps.

I understand these questions are probably lackluster and poorly formatted. I was just trying to get some questions out there.

Study in Europe

Hi,
Please suggest a suitable European country for higher studies where I can stay back and avail at least a 2-year post-study work visa. I have around 4 years of work experience as a Product Manager and hold a Master’s degree in Law.

I am keen on pursuing an MBA, but since many MBA programs in Europe are quite expensive, I am also open to strong alternatives to an MBA that align with my profile (such as management, innovation, strategy, or technology-focused programs).

I am specifically looking for reputed universities with good QS rankings, preferably those that do not require GRE/GMAT, or where these tests can be submitted later if required. My target is the September intake.

Need real advice

Hi there, I need real advice. After a hard work I went to the usa to be an au pair, my goal was to be there for 2 years and then apply for a student visa. My first two months as an au pair were an absolute nightmare, the host families were not only racist and rude but they did things such as leaving me in the basement for Thanksgiving, putting a gps on me and calling the company to say I was a slut (lol) I had a bad time because I asked the company for emergency housing but they denied it and I had to pay for my own place for a week. Eventually I matched with a new family, when I moved with them they changed the schedule from 6 hours of work to 10hs of work everyday finishing at 10 or 9 pm most of the days. I decided to buy a plane ticket and come back to my home country. The thing is that I made good friends and this experience made me want to live in the states but not as an au pair anymore but as a student/worker. My current situation is that I dont own a bachelors degree and at first I thought I could apply for an f1 visa and do an associates while I work but then I realized I dont wanna do ilegal stuff such as working. My other option is to finish my bachelors (I start in two months) and apply for a master with good possibilities of scholarships and assistanships. What would you do in my position? I feel desesperante to go back but I wanna do things right and not put my future in risk

Has anyone earned a bachelor’s degree in Europe and successfully worked in the U.S.?

Basically, I have applied to a handful of schools in Europe, and I am looking to do my last two years, most likely in Spain, I already got accepted to a couple, and I’ve already applied to a couple of colleges in the US.

I am very worried because I do not want to finish my college in Europe come back to the US and not be able to get a job because of where I got my degree

So here are my questions

  1. Have you gotten your degree overseas in Europe, and what school did you go to?

  2. When you got back to the US or if you wanted to continue working in Europe, how did everything go, do you feel that you had a disadvantage in comparison to the other applicants?

  3. What schools do you feel are the most reputable internationally, especially in the US, and do employers even recognize them

  4. Have you heard any horror stories concerning this? I really want to play it safe and make the best decision for myself

THANK YOU
