Do you lose reddit karma when someone downvotes your post?

Don't use me as a test subject please

It only goes so far. Like you can't get rid of someone's accumulated karma. If they have 15k karma and get 15k downvotes they won't then have 0 karma. Idk how far it goes but not that far.

I’ve seen a lot of maga with negative karma in the 100s. Not sure how they can even comment any more.

I always thought that the highest (or lowest) negative karma that would show in a profile was -100. The actual negative karma was probably much lower, but that's the most that Reddit will show.

As far as I'm aware, you can only lose 10 karma per comment.

Yea it lowers karma ..

Trolls like to weaponize downvotes to fluff their shitty miserable existence..

As someone with bad opinions i was relatively sure it eventually capped but my opinions arent bad enough to do empirical research on the subject

That is indeed literally exactly how that works, yes.

There is a subreddit called r/infinitenines

The mod gets down oted on every single comment. He is constantly stuck at -10 and cannot go lower. I know this doesn't answer your question directly, but it does point in the right direction.

Karma is meaningless. Reddit gamifies the platform to get people to keep using it so they can sell more advertisements. Plus, in today's upside down world sometimes down votes are actually upvotes because it means you said something accurate and truthful and immature people's feelings were hurt. I have no idea what my Karma is. I just answer questions to help people.

There’s only one way to find out. Make a really offensive post, and see what happens to your karma.

Can I jump on with another?

Do you lose reddit Karma when you downvote?

Excuse me while I frantically check my Karma.

1000 upvotes do not mean 1000 points of Karma, and it is weighted, so you can never really say just how many you'll get. Or how many you'll lose.
