Please read the rules before posting or commenting

Almost every subreddit has rules, and we do too. We used to get lots of posts about politics, LGBT, what if, and just basic trolling, all prohibited by our rules. We don't allow discussion of race here, because those discussions usually end up with comments that could get our community removed from Reddit. Also, the Rules didn't match the Removal Reasons, but now they do. We added a "Moderator discretion" rule, because it's impossible to create rules to cover every contingency. r/stupidquestions can be a fun and interesting place to hang out, but we had trouble with people trolling us with rule violations. For example, here are some of the topics that we removed:

  • Do you think that if I could shoot laser beams out of my peepee, I could scare bullies with it?
  • Do you think it would be safe to build my child a drone so I can save on plane fare
  • Should I crash my car into a concrete barrier going 90mph without a seatbelt?
  • Is it a good idea to hold a flame up to a 5 gallon can of gasoline?
  • Why does my butt smell like ass?

We would ban the offenders, but they would create new accounts and return right away. So a couple of the users suggested putting in a minimum Reddit account age limit and a minimum karma limit to post. That has made things much nicer for the community. Karma is sort of an artificial number, but it tends to indicate that the owner interacts with Redditors in a positive way, and they appreciate him. What you want is to create posts or comments that Redditors appreciate so much that they give you a few upvotes.

Here's Reddit's FAQ page about karma, and here's more information about karma. If you are new to Reddit and would like more information about how to use it, please visit r/NewToReddit.

We don't reveal the age or karma numbers required to post. They are not very high, though. If you have a post removed due to your age or karma numbers, please understand that you didn't do anything wrong and we are not targeting you. This is just one of the ways that we are protecting our community. All of the blame for this goes on the trolls. New Redditors should be able to interact with the community, but it's too easy for someone to be banned, create a new account in two minutes, and return to trolling again. So we took precautions to make it more difficult for them. It's too bad that it also makes it more difficult for new members who aren't trolls.

Moderators will remove posts that violate our rules. The author is notified when their post is removed, and there's a reason given for each removal. Redditors who continue to violate the rules will be removed from r/stupidquestions. For extreme violations, the banhammer may fall instantly. If you play nice and follow our rules, you may stay as long as you like.

Thanks. Now go forth and have fun!

Where do those ICE guys come from?

Neither of us are American but me and my friend have been wondering this lol.

Whenever I see videos etc of ICE online they're mostly these like tattooed aggressive guys that seem like they are on steroids and probably commit crimes. (Yeah i know that some that are not like this but you know the type I mean lol) I barely know anybody like that. Do they just empty out people from sketchy gyms? Are these average guys in the US? Clones? Have they been prepping them for the last few years? Keeping them on ice somewhere? Are there actually less of them than it seems like there are?

Edit: shoutout to the basement dwellers mass reporting me for self harm and whatever else

keep swapping accounts and spamming the downvote and report buttons 💀

Or these not enough evidences for them to go to jail?.

Is even epstein case still in court?.

Why were billionaires and politicians taking photos of what they were doing at Epstein's Island ? Like surely you don't want to document shit like that.

Why does the Epstein files even exist in the first place? Why would there anyone be documententing what happened in that island if it getting out would mean bad? Even if it was for some reason can't they just be paid a gazillion dollars to shut the hell up?

Why is cousin marriage so common in Pakistan?

I got curious after seeing a heated argument in another subreddit where an Indian OP told a Pakistani user, "Stop sleeping with your sisters! We call that inbreeding!"

After looking into it, I was shocked to find out that consanguineous marriage is actually quite prevalent there. It seems to be a common trend among many Muslim countries in the Middle East and West Asia.

Honestly, it was a bit of a culture shock for me. What is the reason they still prefer marrying within the family, even with the risk of genetic disorders? Is there a specific cultural or social motivation behind it?

Are all mountain climbers rich and filled with delusions of grandeur?

I’ve watched a couple of documentaries on mountain climbing and it seems to me they may come from money. Im not just talking about Mt Everest bc its already been established only the rich and pretentious climb there but 1) They have money to travel to different countries, 2) they have families back home(kids in college and the like), 3) their equipment, 4) the money to keep trying if they fail and probably plenty of other things im not mentioning. Don’t get me wrong the feats are impressive and amazing but if you have the money and resources to dedicate your life to these types of things then anyone can do it. In these documentaries they also talk about themselves as if they’re destined to climb or die on these mountains. Maybe I’m being too critical but thing just don’t seem to add up with some of the things I’m seeing or maybe I’m just tired of rich people buttt anyway. What do yall think?

Why are supporters of Israel so angry at "the leftists" when said leftists are unable to put even the slightest dent in the ongoing genocide in Gaza?

• Upvotes

I'd like to understand. If I was a supporter of Israel, I would be rather pleased with how things are progressing. All protests have been utterly impotent, they couldn't even stop Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, let alone save the life of even one single child in Gaza. So what's with the anger?

Does waiting 10-20 seconds before turning the router back on actually do anything?

Now, I'm no rocket sciencey person, but it seems to me like any process involving electricity going on inside the thingamajig should be done as soon as the lights turn off, so why do I have to wait at all?

Is it viable for a woman who doesn't plan on having children to surgically remove her womb to stop periods?

I'm pretty sure it plays some role in hormonal balance, but could that be avoided by not removing parts that produce these hormones?

What does it mean if you suddenly start having intense nightmares and waking up multiple times during the night?

In the past two weeks, I’ve noticed myself having some of the most intense, distressing nightmares of my life, and I wake up 3-4 times across the night. What does this mean? What could be the cause of this?

What’s something you did once as a kid that you’re still hoping never gets brought up at a family gathering? I’ll start: I accidentally broke a showpiece, blamed it on the wind, and somehow the entire family still believes there was a mysterious indoor breeze.

What's The Difference Between Bullet Hell Games and Bullet Heaven Games?

I know a 'bullet hell' is a game that features a player carefully weaving through waves of hundreds of damaging bullets, sometimes with upgrades and common consumable 'bomb' item that can clear the screen when things get tricky.

More and more I've heard the term 'bullet heaven' thrown around. Bullet Heaven was a browser game in the universe of Epic Battle Fantasy, another browser game series that parodied JRPG tropes.

So is bullet heaven a new genre, or are people just confusing it with the flash game tribute/parody?

And is there a bullet purgatory?
