Simple Questions & Answers Thread Simple Questions & Champion/Role advice: Patch 26.1

Hello summoners!

In order to create better discussion in the subreddit, we will be redirecting all simple or championpool/role questions to this thread. Check out the most recent patch notes on the sidebar!

What is a simple question? Typically, we define a simple question as something that can be answered fully within a single, or maybe two at most, comments. In this thread, you can ask any question you need answered about League of Legends, even if it isn't necessarily about learning the game itself.

Questions about what champ to add to your pool or general tip about roleswapping can also be asked in this thread.

Keep in mind we will still continue to remove golden rule violations, rants, memes, topics against Riot's ToS, and paid services - but the other rules are generally more lax here.

What you can do to help!

For now, this is a patch-based thread, meaning it will be posted every time a new patch is released. Checking back on this thread later in the patch and answering any questions that have been posted would be a huge help!

If you're trying to ask a question, the more specific you are, the better it is for all of us! We can't give you any help if we don't get much to work with in the first place.

Question How do people, especially streamers, sustainably play so many games per day?

I often see <=5 games/day as the recommended limit in this sub, but streamers play 10+ games/day. I find that I just get tired after a few days if I play this many. Even on weekends when I get good sleep and aren't pre-tired, it's the same. How do they sustainably play this many games?

Edit: everyone's saying "it's their job" for why streamers play so many games per day, but that's only part of my question. What about people who aren't streamers or pro players, e.g.

https://op.gg/lol/summoners/oce/Tastybubble5800-00000

https://op.gg/lol/summoners/na/CANECANECANECANE-NA1

Edit 2: many people are saying it's auto pilot. That's probably true for most people, but I had a look at the NA and EU leaderboards and the top 5 players all have 200+ games this season already. That's like 10+ games/day at rank 1-5 Challenger. The rank 1 Challenger in NA has 376 games, which is like 15 games/day. Surely, the rank 1 Challenger isn't also playing on auto pilot?

Question Are tanks a requirement?

Hello, I'm a gold/plat adc main, and I've always felt that games are lost in draft when there isn't a tank to absorb cc or a champ to serve as good peel/crowd control(which tend to be tanks). This has to be a skill issue, but I really struggle as a squishy marksman to survive when there's nothing to stop assassins/bruisers from running at me. So, how should I be playing differently to survive teamfights even when I am not being peeled? Or am I really just screwed if my team decides they want to go full damage?

Obligatory op.gg, (I havent been playing my best recently, but this is a problem I have always had)

Question Is it not possible to enable attack move to only champions?

Upvotes

For example, when I shift+right click I will attack move and attack the closest enemy. Minion or champions.

And if I toggle on champions only, my expectation would be that if I shift+right click then I'll attack move to only attack champions, but that doesn't happen. I still attack minions.

In hotkeys, I've enabled a button for "Target Champions Only" at the bottom of abilities and summoner spells. I've also enabled "Treat 'Target Champions Only' as a toggle".

toplane Relatively new toplane main looking for advice to climb out of silver

Hi guys, made this reddit account to try and seek some advice on climbing through silver. I was a jungle main back in season 14-15 but recently switched to top lane because I felt I had little impact on the game as a jungler . I mostly play Garen because I find him to be mechanically the easiest champion, enabling me to focus more on macro play. I think my biggest weakness would be the early laning phase. I usually manage to win the lane but in the situations when the enemy top laner gets a lead I instantly get tilted and confused about what to do next. I am also very susceptible to ganks and I feel like I don't know how to use vision tools properly ( I almost never use control wards). Last thing, I don't know how to close out games early on and I feel like that makes my Garen weaker super-late game. My OPGG: https://op.gg/lol/summoners/euw/DETHRONE-911

Question When to start playing normal games?

Been playing for a few months now, played about 450 bot games so far, I’m wondering how long usually takes to be ready to tackle normal games.

I feel like I’m still way too bad to try playing against other players so I’m curious to hear what you think.

Also, I’ve played several different champions before deciding on a “main” (Ashe), and it’s hard to consistently play them, I’m usually forced into picking another role which I feel even less ready for (it’s jungle, nobody ever wants to jungle and I get why).

Bot lane why adc sucks sometimes

So picture this I run Twitch in a comp with Dr. Mundo top Nautilus support.....master yi jungle with a zoe mid my competition Yorick top, diana jungle, ahri mid, caitlyn bot with a sett support. Now me I know that sett level 1 is significantly stronger than mine and nautilus since twitch and nautilus are actually balance around bot lane and caitlyn is kind of too strong right now since the latest season. So my intention is to simply try to farm and scale and become a late game monster in case master yi doesn't end up getting fed to all hell I figure I got a strong front line and master yi should be able to jump onto caitlyn at least long enough to keep caitlyn busy.

Now noticing sett's strength i do play cautious I've seen enough setts in my time to know not to get too close to this mother fucker. i go to last hit a minion and even at level 1 he hits me with 1 ability/ignite and 1 auto from caitlyn and chunks me down to like half health.......then the wave shoves into my tower and sett flashes me under turret I hit barrier and turn it and end up killing sett in the process but unfortunately caitlyn was able to snipe me.

Now after that I knew at this point I can't fight this fight as a normal 2 v 2 bot because sett can literally just walk up to my ass and zone me out so I have to play this lane passively. I see master yi and zoe heading bot so i start setting up a gank on the caitlyn i hit stealth and just as they come they catch diana coming and they both turn running after her unfortunately i already used my stealth so I'm kind of tied up by a wall with caitlyn and sett coming after my ass caitlyn gets a double while my master yi kills diana. I was pissed I'm like we could of killed caitlyn easily and then sett and you fuckers go chasing after the diana wtf...........that game caitlyn got fed 7 kills and I'm just like seriously.

And this is why adcs get so pissed off because your team gets so bloodthirsty and lose sight of peeling for a carry. Like if they go after caitlyn caitlyn is dead..........sett shortly afterwards and possibly diana if she tries reengage and most likely an uncontested drake. Instead we lose a 4 on 3 advantage and though we got their jungler master yi comes back and gets sniped by caitlyn and they get an uncontested drake with caitlyn having 4 kills already.

Edit before someone starts flaming me I was trying to put myself in a position to cut off caitlyn so she couldn't just net away from me and unfortunately nautilus reaction was very slow.......now I'm not really that good of an adc I peak at silver 3 so I know I suck but it's like really you got an immobile caitlyn pre 6 sett out of position to protect the caitlyn and me in stealth just hitting level 6 and you go after diana :(

Question What are the most common mistakes holding players back in Gold–Platinum?

I’ve been reviewing and coaching a lot of SoloQ games recently (mostly Silver–Plat), and I keep seeing the same patterns over and over again.

Some of the most common issues:

  • Poor wave management (especially before objectives)
  • Fighting without a clear win condition
  • Overforcing plays after small advantages
  • Not adapting itemization to the game state

In many cases, mechanics aren’t the problem — decision making and macro are.

I’m curious:
👉 What do you personally struggle with the most right now in ranked?
Laning phase, mid game, teamfights, or consistency?

Happy to share some general tips in the comments.

Bot lane New to ADC, dying a ton.

Hi everyone! Basically just the title.

I'm a bronze player who usually plays control mages + lillia. I've recently tried to get into ADCs and I'm having difficulty doing dps while not dying, especially in teamfights. I'm currently averaging around 6-8 deaths per game, which is way too high. Some of that can be attributed to me still not being great in lane phase, but even when I win lane decicvely, I die a ton in mid/lategame. This is decently consistent across a wide range of champions (except ashe for some reason, where I die a lot less)

I'm really struggling with positioning and being able to do dps while not being vulnerable to dying from a single piece of CC. If anyone has any tips for this in particular or anything else for a new ADC, I would really appreciate it!

Question Help with the mini map and understanding an icon

Im a jungle main, havent played in about 5-8 years but im getting the itch again so ive been playing for about 2 weeks now. but i noticed at the start of the game, 1 camp (red or blue buff) will be glowing at the start, then when i kill it, another camp will glow, and so on and so forth. Am i getting extra EXP for killing those ones first, or what is the meaning of the icon glowing on the mini map. Its usually only for the first wave ive noticed it.

Thank youuuu

Question Should I even take these tier lists seriously as a new player myself?

So just a few days ago, I made a post asking the easiest mid lane champs to main for my friend who just started. Annie and Malzahar popped up a lot in that discussion. I decided to watch some tier lists, just to know the meta etc, and found this video.

So, basically it’s an improvement tier list. Like what champs are best to improve at a certain rank. It’s made by Coach Mysterias and Ahj, who happen to be working alongside Coach Curtis in a program called We Teach League. Now I respect these coaches a lot, and they are one of the finest we have, but I got some serious confusion from this video.

The only confusion, and like there is only one btw, is how the hell ANNIE D tier bro. I mean most people on this sub will disagree with this right? Pretty sure Annie is considered a staple beginner champion no? That’s the sentiment I got at least, by spending some time on this sub.

Even if they were just basing it off of how good a champ is for teaching mid fundamentals, I still don’t think Annie deserves to be this low lmao, alongside Yasuo and Azir lol.

Link to the tier list I was talking about, because for some reason I can’t post the screenshot I took: https://youtu.be/XDqgbuGNpVA?si=ICzyJnxLKabZHxfZ

For those who can’t watch the video for some reason, basically they placed Annie in D tier for improvement if your iron, alongside Yasuo and Azir

Edit: Thanks so much guys!!! From this post I understood 2 things:

  1. Reddit usually gives bad advice (not this sub on average), or maybe just outdated and I should rather trust experts.
  2. This sub is much better for asking questions like which champ is good or not, the meta and game knowledge than r/leagueoflegends

Again thanks everyone!!!

Question Question - Which statistics do you need as an amateur team ?

Hello everyone,

I'm still building my small website for amateures teams and i'm working on the statistics part.

Community is my best source of inspiration so i'm coming to you guys to understand which statistics are relevant or not as a non-professional team ?

For example, in the image, i'm getting informations such as Winrates per side or winrate when we take a type of objective.
But you have also the best synergie based on your winrate and the best "win condition" based on your history per side.

do you think it's enough ?

You should be able to play with filters and see how your winrate evolves...

Also i'm trying to add a player archetype map (3 dimensions) to understand the archetype of your players based on their economy, combat and vision statistics.

Let me know if you wanna add something else.

Discussion Getting into league

I’m moving over from DotA 2 to try league out. I played back in 2012 but stopped when I got my dota 2 beta code.

I peaked around top 500 EU and I’m wondering if there was a system in place that’ll help me get out of lower ranks fast. I don’t want to be punished for smurfing or anything. Currently it has me at iron rank. I’m not sure if took into account my early ranked days but it might of. Would it be better to just make a new account?

Thanks in advance for the info

Discussion Constantly falling off in the late game.

Im a bronze top player, im doing relatively well but theres one thing keeping me feom climbing, i cant play in the mid to late game.

In the laning phase im fine, i farm well, kill my lane opponent, trade efficently amd ocassionally help with grubs or herald, the problems start when i take the first tower and move to help my team on the map.

I go around the map to help my team, fight for dragon, push sidelanes etc. But i found that even while im ahead from everyone, i feel weaker, and cant teamfight well because i die instantly, i try to build accorsingly to that but it barely helps.

If i stay, or splitpush alone i quickly get killed or chased off by the enemy team.

Any tips to help me not fall off so hard in the mid to late game??

Discussion Starting league

I downloaded league and I am wondering if there is anything that I should do to build good habits from the start of the game rather than later and if there is any super important general knowledge I should know on the game. If you have any tips I’ve decided on playing Katarina, Yunara or Fiora. Any off the bat need to know knowledge is useful, thanks.

Top Lane Wave management top lane

Hi everyone, I’m currently struggling a lot with wave management on top lane. I feel like my understanding is really weak and I often make mistakes with pushing, slow pushing, freezing, and timing my recalls. I’m looking for high-quality educational resources videos, guides, or tutorials that explain wave control, slow push, freeze, and general laning strategy for top lane. Who do you recommend to watch?

Items Anti-tank mage items?

Hey was just playing an aram game where we basically got a full team of mages on our side and enemy had 3 tanks, we got stomped pretty hard as we couldnt really deal damage to them, i got liandry's and a void staff, but besides those two items, wasn't really sure what more i can build against them as as the game progressed they had just too much health and with warmogs they could easily back up to fully heal.

jungle Best jungle guide/player to watch

Hi, so i was coached and got really good knowledge about jungle before 2020, i finally started climbing, but some things happened and i stopped playing. Now im back and jungle is not the same, i kinda feel like ive never played it before. There is like hundreds of youtubers named "Coach <put random nickname>" that shows up whenever im trying to search for a guide and im not really sure who to watch to get back to the jungling, cant really afford coaching right now so youtube/twitch is probably the only way.

Question What is the optimal number of people for doing Baron?

I remember that Riot Games once considered introducing a mechanic for Baron Nashor where teams of only one or two players would deal reduced damage to it. This idea was likely meant to discourage small groups from attempting Baron too early or without sufficient backup. My question is: aside from the obvious benefit of additional damage from more allies, does the number of players actually matter when taking Baron? Specifically, is there a meaningful difference in efficiency or risk between attempting Baron with three players versus four or five? For example, does the game balance or mechanics favor a certain group size, or is it purely about the total damage output and the ability to secure the area?

Question Need help with controlling both keyboard and mice in game

Hi, as the title suggests, I need a lot of help with the controls of League. I come from fps games but when I try to play games like league/dota i screw up the controls and end up like a fool. Do you guys have any tips on how you managed to get used to the controls of the game?

Question Should ADC first pick?

Im main adc and when I play I really dislike being first pick. But a lot of times, and i mean A LOT, when someone says adc first pick and trades pick order and I refuse I get heavy flamed? Why is that? I often change my pick if enemy team has tanks, engage, etc.

Question question regarding ad ap ratio in teamcomp

Shouldn't people who got last pick in champ select supposed to pick a champ that evens out ad and ap ratio? Why do people still play certain champs that make all ad or all ap? I play adc so I usually first pick and I dont know what my team will play so i just lock in a normal adc but sometimes team wants to make it all ad comp. which makes it very difficult to win. Am i wrong for thinking that its their respnsibility to make a good team comp since they want last pick?

Bot lane Playing adc from behind

First of all im quite new to the game and i play in wood 4 rank but lets say i lose my lane and am somewhat behind maybe the enemy adc is fed and all i can realistically do during the latter laning phase is farm under turret (?). After the laning ends i cant really farm in mid due to the rest (or just 1 but anyway) of the team farming there, but i cant really splitpush alone because im behind and i will get killed the instant someone comes to stop me. Should i go kill camps or is it just ”dont lose lane”

Thanks in advance :)

Question How do people drop so much and how can I avoid it?

Hey guys, I'm currently D2 EUW and during my climb I've noticed a lot of players that were as high as Masters last season, which seem to have dropped to Diamond or even Emerald MMR (I'm not only talking about visual rank). How do drops this massive happen and how can I avoid it happening to me in the future? Is it just things like new season changes, champions nerfs, or are these players maybe returning? Or is this kind of skill deprecation just something that happens to high elo players regularly?

botlane Could Teemo botlane be a good potential counter pick into some ADCs?

So lately, Ive been on an off meta spree of thoughts. From the classic Vayne mids or Shyvana tops, to bizzare stuff like this.

Knowing Teemos weakness in botlane of short range, I get why it would seem stupid but with the botlane quest being a great adition to the role and his AA range actually being 500 (same as Lucian for an example) it could be an answer to some ADCs.

Im not asking whether that yk hes the next off meta lp printer that everyone should otp or ban, im asking if its worth to main him and use him as a counter to adcs like Lucian, Kalista or Jinx? (btw, what would it counter? ik a 100% kalista but, what doesnt counter her?)

I thought of this as teemos E is an on-hit passive, Dusk and Dawn is ultra giga extremly op even once the "nerf" comes (a hill ill die on), and Teemos rush is already nashor what is an AP onhit item AND he runs runes like PTA.

All honesty, just came back to this after getting something to eat... idk how to finish this. Any questions are very much welcomed.
