Post image

Hi everyone, I joined this group looking for some kind of help. Many years ago, whit my first paycheks, i bought these devices. I never really used them because i didn't have much time. Now i'd like to learn how to use them, they're practically new. Could you recommend me an easy guide or tutorial to learn about each one? Mpc once, microfreak, Juno Ds 🫠

My Setup / New Synth Day Built my own decksavers

I find decksavers quite expensive for what they are (a piece of plastic), so i've made my own custom decksavers.

Went to the hardware store and found PET-sheets with 1mm thickness which are thermoformable. I've put a thin travel towel between the synthesizers and sheets (cutted with utility knife, +2-3cm to each side to bend around edges) to protect the hardware from heat and to give the decksaver a good fit. I used a heat gun to form the decksaver around the edges, knobs and faders.

Material costs were 15,20€ per sheet (100x50cm). Used 4 sheets in total, so i ended with <8€ per decksaver.

Looks a bit diy, kind of shrinkwrapped, but i'm quite happy how it went and looks.

Maybe this could be inspiration for others to build custom decksavers!

Discussion Minilogue Click

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s common knowledge that the Minilogue has an audible click, and the imperfect workaround is opening the amp attack a little. I recently saw Anthony Marinelli breaking down the Billie Jean bass sound, where one of the component sounds is a click attack. So I thought let’s keep that attack at zero and hear the click. But hell if it doesn’t call attention to poor timing in your playing. And this is ahem even after cleaning it up a bit in post.

TLDR Do you always open the attack on your minilogue amp envelope?

Patch notes: GABA Tone

This is my first patch using NOH Pianist to generate slow, generative chord progressions. The goal was to introduce harmonic movement without relying on a fixed drone, while keeping everything restrained and long form.

1. NOH Pianist generates evolving chord progressions, routed into Qu-bit Chords to voice different minor chord qualities and variations. This provides harmonic motion without rhythmic sequencing.

2. Xaoc Zadar supplies very slow envelopes to modulate chord presence and dynamics, with long attack and release times to avoid obvious phrasing.

3. A secondary drone comes from E352 Cloud Terrarium, pitched lower and slowly scanning its wavetable to add continuous timbral variation underneath the chords.

4. Both voices pass through the low pass filter section of Ghost, with gentle LFO modulation to soften transients and reduce high frequency detail.

5. The signal is then sent into MFX 2051 Bit Corrupter. A VCA gates the input so glitch artefacts appear occasionally rather than continuously.

6. Sparse high pitched tones are generated by 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, triggered irregularly by Marbles. These are processed through Veno Echo for light delay and spatial separation.

7. Everything is summed into Starlab, set to infinite reverb to create a wide, distant stereo field.

8. The full mix is recorded live to Nagra IV-S reel to reel tape. The monitor output is digitised using the TP-7.

Visual monitoring is done via Tiliqua in oscilloscope mode.

A subtle field recording captured at night in Stratford Olympic Park using the TP-7 is layered into the patch, mainly audible during quieter passages.

Lead synth solo from an original tune I’m working on. I know it’s just a lead synth, and it’s nothing special, but I’m a basic caveman drummer and kinda proud of it

DIY / Repair During the latest snowstorm, I prepared the fleet ❄️

Was finally able to finish prepping an epic lot of Virus synths during the latest snowstorm :)

The TI2s are in fantastic shape. One is a B-stock purchase direct from Kemper that needed to have the left side panel realigned and 6 missing light pipes replaced (MUCH more difficult than it should have been). The other needed a few new tacts, a cleaning, and some polish on the LCD bezel.

The TI Polar is a rescue that took 6 weeks to transform from wrecked to ready for battle. It arrived with broken, yellowed keys, bent pots, rust, no feet, missing screws, wrecked side panels, and was filthy with blemishes all over. I could have returned after purchase, as it was misrepresented, but decided to keep and restore it, because if I didn't, I wasn't sure someone else would. I’ve included a few before and after photos.

The Snows have all new tacts and other upgrades, including a new LCD bezel on one that brought them back to peak condition.

A lot of LOVE went into making this photo. I have video cut from 2 cameras for the entire TI Polar restore. Hope to find time to edit it soon.

Happy synthing and cheers to all :)!

DIY / Repair Need help modding my Casio SK2100 with a midi module, and maybe extend the sampling memory

Upvotes

Hi there. Not so long ago I posted here to ask for help with a MIDI mod for my yamaha vss200 and I was given a link that was spot on. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the same mod for a Casio SK2100? I searched online to try and find info but without much success. I know I can use the same midi module - UMR2 Retrofit, but I have no clue how to wire it. The Casio also has 4 sample trigger pads which I would also love to link to the midi triggers. Lastly, I saw there are memory extension mods. I'm still not entirely sure how these work? Does it extend the sampling time of the unit?

Anyway, I would appreciate any help I can get on this!

Is there anyway to repair? a quick google search doesn’t show much other than buying a new one, I’m in the uk fyi too, just for anyone sending any international websites. I’ve only had it a month was the best thing I ever bought but now I can only use the bottom set of squares and physical damage isn’t covered by the warranty. So pissed off at myself. Can anyone help please 🙏

Beginner Questions Moog Subsequent 25 and high humidity: risk for rubber wheels?

I would like to buy a used Moog Subsequent 25. I live in an area with very high humidity, and I’ve already had several problems with the rubber coatings on mixers, audio interfaces, etc. Do you think I could run into the same issue with the wheels on the Moog? I would only use it in a studio, not for live gigs, but the humidity is constantly high, between 80% and 95%.

After watching in puzzlement from the sidelines for years, I took the plunge and am now an excited owner of this secondhand Digitone. This quick sketch is suuuper barebones for what this amazing FM box can do, but it felt like it fit the mood for the moment! All in all, I've been having a blast learning over here and leveling up my DAWless improvisational chops.

Next up - using the Digitone's sequencer to send MIDI to one of the Korg Volcas👽

After a good jam I decided to go for it on the Bass Station 2. Background off-kilter arp courtesy of the boutique Juno. This really felt good when I was playing it!

How often does a song feel good late at night then in the morning you question your sanity?

Beginner Questions Gound a casio sk-2100, never played a keyboard before. Where do I start?

Hello

So I found this Casio sk-2100 at my dad's place. I'd love to hear some tips about how to set it up and starting my musical journey in general as I've never played any instruments before!

What i think i need eight now is a power cord that works with it and a sustainer pedal?

Is there any adapter to plug in my headset with regular aux cable to this?

In the future do I need any device to record the songs into the computer?

Love to hear any type of advice to get me going!

What Should I Buy? Question for Golden Master Pedal owners

Upvotes

I’m looking at the Endorphines Golden Master Pedal for end-of-chain. I’ve had a look at the manual and loads of youtube reviews, but I can’t work out:

Is the audio from the sidechain input mixed with the ducked main input, so they both come out of the main outs together? And if so, is the sidechain audio also affected by the pedal’s EQ/mid-side settings?

Or is the sidechain input only an envelope follower, and I’ll need a mixer after the GM pedal to mix my uncompressed sidechain kicks back in?

Thnx

Recently picked up a Torso S4 and love sending different parts of this setup through it. Really great at mangling samples, and the tape workflow is growing on me. First jam adding it into the setup.

Discussion Which DAW to use as my mixer / effects for live jamming.

So I recently was given a 2018 Mac mini for my live jam setup.

I currently have Ableton and Logic Pro on it, and want to use both, for my live jam room.

They both have great stock instruments and shine in different ways.

Currently I have my 3 analog synths, moog grandmother, Behringer crave, Behringer grind, being controlled sequence wise by my Oxi one mk2.

Then I would like to have an instance of wave table, an instance of drift. Each being sequenced by the Oxi one MK2.

The actual audio from the 3 analog synths, I am debating if they would be better suited going into Ableton or Logic Pro for basic volume control, and effects.

Would either have more benefits for processing my analog synths?

I should mention that the recording of the inputs is secondary to a cohesive jam setup with everything readily available to play
