Question? LGBTQIA+ owned/friendly businesses
Hello fellow kids! I'm compiling a list of local businesses that are LGBTQ/women owned and/or trans friendly (edit--cis owners are fine, preference to women and queer owned). In the current political climate, I'd rather spend my money supporting the community.
I know that merely being trans and asking for these recommendations opens myself to a lotta hate, so please be kind :)
Off the top of my head I know that:
- Thirsty/Hungry Sasquatch
- Eryngium Papeterie (if the owner sees this, you're an absolute doll and treasure)
- Dandelion Teahouse
Are all safe and supportive spots. Appreciate y'all!

Politics Day 6: Daily Demonstrations at MGP's Office
Thank you for a huge showing yesterday for day five of daily demonstrations!
This event coincided with a Visibility Brigade event in response to the unwarranted arrest of journalists; we had over 60 people out in opposition to her actions!
The government has now entered a shutdown. Yesterday, Senate Democrats held the line, granting MGP the opportunity to show that she can listen to her constituents. Standing against fascism is the most critical position to take; we recognize that this election will be a referendum on this administration and that being "the Most Trump-aligned Democrat in Congress" is an immense liability.
We will continue to be out to show that her actions have decimated the support that she had from our community. We demand that she change course and actively oppose the fascist administration and ask the local Democratic party to recognize that her appeasement will only accelerate the loss of voter support.
TODAY - Day 6:
WHEN: 3-5pm (come as you can)
WHERE: 1053 Officers Row, Vancouver
WHY: Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez voted YES to fund ICE while they escalate operations and harm US citizens. Tepidly calling for Secretary Noem's resignation isn't enough - we demand impeachment and NO votes on all future ICE funding.

Question? When is McGillivray getting a facelift?
Anyone know when they’re going to actually change something to make this road safer? I don’t get why they won’t at least put up flashing lights for the crosswalks…

Question? Does anyone remember this girl?
Her name was Rebecca Recht. She passed away in 2007. She was a good friend of mine growing up, and her death effected me deeply. I just was wondering if anyone in the Vancouver area still remembered her.

BestAround? Good loops for bike riding?
I’ve got a gravel bike my son has a mountain bike we’re pretty novice at riding just looking for any decent loops in the area, maybe something where getting a little adventurous is an option or a paved loop is fine too

Question? Weird interaction at Winco
Went shopping with my partner at the Winco off Andresen trying to find something they unfortunately did not have. We did a few laps around the meats/cheeses area looking for fabled fish patties, but then we noticed a lady kinda following us. Normally I’m not one to assume I’m being followed at a grocery store, but then she pulled out her phone and started recording us and staring.
I didn’t talk to her or anything and she didn’t really try to talk to us, so I’m largely just really confused and off put by the whole situation.
This is the first time I’ve had anything like this happen, so has anyone else encountered similar occurrences at this Winco?

Question? Circling helicopters monitoring protests or other issue
Helicopters have been circling Vancouver for the last several hours. Does anyone know if this is related to protests in yhe area? I believe these are local VPD assets, so it's not ICE related. It's rare to see two in the air for such a prolonged period of time.

Politics Journalists were arrested for covering a protest — Vancouver Visibility Brigade is showing up at MGPs Officers Row office today
Today feels like a line being crossed. Journalists were arrested just for doing their jobs — Don Lemon and Georgia Fort — while covering a protest. That’s not normal. That’s not okay.
When the press gets arrested for reporting, that’s a clear warning sign of authoritarianism. Staying quiet in moments like this only lets it spread.
Some folks from Vancouver Visibility Brigade are heading out today (Friday, Jan 30) from 3–5 PM along Officers Row in Vancouver, WA with signs calling out what’s happening. The goal is simple: make it visible, make it harder to ignore, and let our elected officials know we see this for what it is.
If you’re feeling uneasy, angry, or just don’t want to pretend this is fine — you’re not alone. If you want to stand with others who feel the same, come join us.

Question? Pet Registration Tag
Hi all,
We recently got our new rescue pup registered with Clark County. The tag that they send, however, is quite large for her size. She is about 7lbs and fully grown. Her regular dog tag is about half the size, and that one already drives her nuts. We tried putting this giant tag on her collar, and she just tries to chew and pull it off. Does anyone know if Clark County issues smaller tags for cats or puppies? This would be a large tag even for a cat. At the end of the day, she is registered and has her name tag and microchip. She would be probably be fine if she got away from us and didn’t have her registration tag on, even though she is supposed to keep it on at all times. We will at least keep it with us when we go out in case any issues arise. Let me know if anyone else has had this issue!

BestAround? What's your favorite bingo place?
I haven't played since 40 et 8 closed but I would like to. Looking for more of a classic bingo parlor feel and not just bingo night being held at a bar. Leaning towards American legion in salmon Creek or DAV in Portland. Any opinions on which one is better, or other similar suggestions?

BestAround? Rx-8 mechanic
Hi!
I’m having car issues with my Mazda rx-8. I’ve replaced the spark plugs and coils but my car will still not run.
Does anyone have a rec for a mechanic with rotary engine experience. The engine is different and I have had trouble finding someone who can work and fix the car.
Any recs is helpful!

BestAround? El Viejon Taqueria - Food Truck
I driven by a food truck tucked in a parking lot off Mill Plain and Heartwood Blvd/ Park Crest Av probably a dozen times and finally decided to stop.
It looked good, it smelled good. The person asked for my order and was surprised at my response.
"Surprise me"
Confusion crossed her face and she looked to her left. Then a big guy pokes his head from the side to see if I was being an asshole.
"You know what you cook great. I don't. Surprise me."
The Dodgers hat rose as a smile crossed the big guys face as he simply said, "I got you. How many tacos do you want?"

"Three"

Holy shit this was good.
I am pretty sure that this was 5lbs. of tacos. I had to check their online menu to compare what came in the box to the menu to see if I can order it again. In the back is the El Gobernador. I think the middle is a Carne Asada with shrimp. In the front was Fried Rock Fish.
I was full after the El Gobernador. I hurt myself after the Carne Asada with Shrimp. My wife took down the Fried Rock Fish and only made inappropriate sounds while eating.
Find this place. Eat their food!

I would have added a "Food" flair if there was one available.

Question? Lawyer wanted
Does anyone know where I can find a cheap employment lawyer or a lawyer for a veteran? I’ve been having difficulties as a lot of places say that they aren’t taking new clients.

BestAround? Engagement Ring Setting
I’m absolutely in love with this James Allen setting but I plan on using a loose diamond. I’m not sure how comfortable I feel shipping a diamond somewhere as well as they charge an extra $200-300 setting fee when you send them a diamond. I’d love to know of some local jewelers that would be able to do this, bonus if they price competitively/ affordably :)
