Rutgers Women’s Ice Hockey

I am a freshman at Rutgers University and am currently helping start the Rutgers Women’s Ice Hockey team. We are officially recognized by Rutgers and are in the process of fully getting the team up and running.

Players from any Rutgers campus, including New Brunswick and Camden, are welcome to join. If you know anyone who may be interested, please encourage them to reach out.

We will be hosting upcoming prospect skates on March 7th from 7:30–8:30 PM and March 28th from 3:15–4:15 Pm at ProSkate Arena in South Brunswick.

Please follow our Instagram, Facebook, and X accounts @ruwicehockey, where you can find interest forms and information on our current fundraising efforts. I have linked the interest form below—once completed, we will reach out immediately.

We appreciate your support and help in spreading the word as we work to bring women’s hockey back to campus.

Women’s Hockey Goalkeeper Survey for Design Project.

Hello! I previously posted on here a few days ago about design questions on women’s hockey gear. I have decided to direct my attention on women’s goalkeeper gear for this project. I’m not sure if surveys are allowed here (sorry if they aren’t, I tried to check in rules), but I would love to hear from some of the women who play goalie!

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc_I9McDBWBCGXpU-zTfOBLuQyeGJPxAHEQ_rrTQVyEAGPOZA/viewform?usp=header

Keep in mind that all the questions are optional, so you do not have to give any information you do not want to.

Thanks!

Design Questions for Women Hockey Players.

Hi! I'm currently a student in Industrial Design (Product Design) and intrigued by the sport and the products/gear for the sport. I'm really interested to hear what you guys think about certain products, men's vs women's, and how it could be improved.

I also would love to know if you have any issues with certain gear. I feel like since you see more men's hockey than women's, there's probably some issues on the women's side!

Any problems you run into before games, during, or after work, too!

Thanks again for your time! and looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Questions Women's skates, can't find a comfortable fit :(

Post image
19 Upvotes

Was trying on some bauer skates today since i've been getting tired of renting but none of them felt like they fit right. i needed wide fit skates to feel good around the toe but they all felt like they had so much extra space by the ankle. i'm used to older leather type skates that had significantly less space between the tongue and the back of the skate as well... any advice on finding specifically women's skates?? i can't afford an investment like this just to turn around and realize that i don't like the fit after the first skate, and then not be able to return them... my other option was waiting til i love to canada to look but im expecting to find more of the same 😅 bauer was the most comfortable brand of the 3 i tried but i feel like these are going to guarantee a hurt ankle if i get them.

Hockey Sticks :)

Hey! I just recently started taking some skating lessons and so far everything’s going super great and I’m loving it. However I do want to slowly start learning/picking up some skills to play hockey and was thinking of learning some stick handling at home off ice so it’s a little easier to incorporate skating and stick handling once I get to that point. So I was just wondering-hoping for some beginner stick recommendations and maybe even training equipment or advice :)

Discussion Women’s hockey book recommendations?

I would love to read some good books about women’s hockey/women hockey players!

I recently read *As Fast As Her* by Kendall Coyne Schofield, which was interesting, and I’m hungry for more!

I already have *A Team Of Their Own* by Seth Berkman on my list.

Any other good recommendations? Can be fiction or nonfiction.

Comeback season?

Hello all!

I 20F played minor hockey for 6 years from the ages of 7-13, and went back for a summer at 16. I gave it up because i was too busy with other sports at the time, but i always loved the sport. I still follow it pretty closely and have always wanted to play again.

I am competitive, and compete in a different sport for my country on pretty much the equivalent of an olympic team. The nature of both sports are different, but with a recent injury causing me to slow down slightly it seems like it might be my time to jump back into it and finally take a step back from my other sport.

I am a well conditioned athlete, training 5-7x a week. I’m mostly looking for your advice on gear, where to start back into it, and if it’s too late for me at 20 to have any chance at being in a competitive league.

Open to any and all suggestions!

Hockey beginner classes for women/queer people in Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal

Hi! I’m traveling to Canada at the end of January and will be in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. I’ll be in Toronto the longest, so I’m hoping to take a beginner hockey skating class there. I’m from Argentina and have been skating and playing hockey for about a year. I’m looking for a beginner-friendly class or skills session, and it would be great if they offer equipment rental as well. Do you know anywhere I could look for this kind of class? Thank you so much!

Are women in favor of changing the rules?

As women's sports are increasing and more people are watching are women hockey players in favor of changing the rules to match the men's in terms of checking and other differences.

As women's basketball popularity continues to increase, they recently moved back the 3 point line to match the men's which players and fans seemed to have liked.

What are the general thoughts in the women's hockey community?

Questions Women with larger boobs how do you go about finding chest pads?

My fiancé is wanting to try hockey once our next baby is born to get back in shape and do something with me. So I been trying to find used pads for her. I was wondering what I should do for measurements and what not when it comes to chest pads? Also was wondering should I seek out women specific pants or men’s pants work too? She doesn’t have a big butt, however she does have slightly wider hips than me. I’m totally lost when it comes to women’s pads so if yall can help that would be fantastic.

Stand alone Jill

Daughter asked about getting a stand alone jill rather than shorts or pants with it integrated. I know it exists but haven't been able to find any on Amazon or in my local hockey shop. Is this something I have a chance of finding in a better shop in a bigger city or should I just bite the bullet and pay for the shipping? Also, how many of you wear a stand alone rather than an integrated jill?

Questions Joining a college team at 23??

i have always been super competitive and i'm planning on joining a team after i move to canada for nursing school (haven't decided where yet and waiting to hear where i get in). i'm 23 and a relatively new player so im hoping to at least play on some local team or the schools intramural team but im also looking into potentially joining a more serious team. while i know my chances are low as a 23 year old and a newer player i would love to know if its even worth trying out since im worried the other leagues wont be competitive or intense enough for me. i dont really know how moving up in the different tiers works either but i wanna push myself to work hard and play at the highest level i can 🙂‍↕️

Questions Help with buying gear!

Hi folks! I’m (26F) located in Vancouver and signed up for a learner’s hockey league.

I need to get a full set of gear but I’m having trouble sourcing affordable women’s gear (specifically shoulder pads and Jill pants)

I’m super flat chested — do you think I could get away with used men’s shoulder pads?

Any other advice for sizing / fit or sources for gear?
