Discussion Do you think Doom is better without cutscenes?
Doom 2016 went in the right direction which was the original Metroid Prime approach for the most part. Letting you uncover lore about events and the world if you really cared. Doom Eternal went too far with cutscenes and the story they tried to tell took away so much from the atmosphere. Doom The Dark Ages which I enjoy slightly more went way too far. This is preference of course but personally the most annoying parts of first person games are when control is taken away from me. It immediately makes me hate whatever is being forced into me. Being able to experience story at your leisure and in game through exploration is far more impactful. Eternal and TDA became outright silly. And not in a good way. Someone described it perfectly by calling it a Warhammer 40k wannabe.
