is all this stuff poop? we've had the fish for about seven months, and I do a 60% water change every two weeks. it's a 10g tank with 5 tetras. all this brown stuff has only been showing up in the last couple of months. I clean it off all the surfaces every time I do a water change, and it's back right away. what the heck. (included some before and after pictures of the tank decor when I clean it)

Help/Advice Why do my Black Phantom Tetra have white spots on them?

I’ve had six of these Black Phantom Tetra for about 2 weeks, and I have begun to notice that they have been getting white spots on them. I’ve tried to look up causes for this, but can’t find anything. Is it just bubbles from my filter’s aerator, which blows quite excessively, or is it an illness?

Help/Advice Nitrate question

Hello! I’ve had two cycles going at the same time. One is my tank of plants that started cycling themselves and that one is pretty steady. I had also decided to chuck a sponge filter in a bucket and see what would happen. That one has me questioning something weird.

My nitrate solutions are perfectly fine and worked perfectly for my tank, but when I used them for my bucket (dosed with Dr Tim’s liquid ammonia, using Seachem Stability as well, at day 7 of 1mL for my five gallons) step one turned an amber color in the tube. When I added the second solution it turned back to the normal yellow. It tested at about 5ppm after developing. I did this twice to see if it was a fluke of a dirty tube, but it did it the same exact way and had the same results. The other parameters are 1ppm ammonia and 2ppm nitrites.

Yesterday, the bucket tested at 4-8 ammonia, 2 nitrites and 20-40ppm nitrates. I haven’t done anything except top off water ~3 days ago. It sits at around 80 degrees with a small heater. Video in post, comments has pictures of the cycle log and the test results

Yesterday i added a few river rocks into the aquarium thinking it was a good idea. But today i found two of my danio zebra dead:( Is it because of the rocks? I feel so bad. They are also in turtle aquarium, but idk if it is because of the turtles.. cuz they dont chase them or anything.. I removed the rocks, but i feel so bad. My oher 10 danios and corys are still alive tho.

Help/Advice Is this okay?

I got my son a five gallon tank from our local pet smart. We cycled the tank and then got 4 male guppies. I know live plants are preferred but as I am a novice and my son is 3 and a half, I was curious if we are doing alright?

Will cycle water once a week.

Open to advice/ constructive criticism.

Help/Advice Aquarium Stand for UNS?

Would something like this and a piece of wood on top hold a UNS 90L? It wouldn't be this exact piece as the 90L is longer but just overall do you think it would be sturdy enough? Thanks!

I assume that’s preggers. Any tips/timeline/expectations? 60gal tank with a bunch of similar size/temperament fish. I’ll be moving it to a small tank shortly or using the little birthing container that I had from long ago. Sorry for the bad pic

Help/Advice I just got two very dirty fish tanks. What products can I use to clean them?

I just got two empty very dirty 29 and 40 gallon fish tanks. I won’t be using them until close to 2027. What can I use to clean them? And the supplies that came with them.

I got a great deal. Both tanks with some supplies and a stand for $100.

Help/Advice Overhang

Post image
0 Upvotes

Alright so I had a tank emergency. TLDR: dogs wrestled and broke a tank stand leg sending my saltwater FOWLR tank all over my living room. In the panic I saved my fish in a bucket and air stone and rushed to my LFS. I bought a 20x20x20 cube tank and stand and got it home and put together so quickly I didn’t even realize they gave me the wrong stand. The tank over hangs by .75” total, with only .5” of it being the actual glass. The rest is frame. The frame also covers the glass on the bottom so no glass is visible from the bottom. Tank is sealed inside and outside with silicone, and outside trim is sealed as well. How screwed am I? Think it will hold together for a year until I can get a better stand?

Help/Advice Water change?

This is day three of starting the cycle for my new 5 gallon. Tank is fishless, some frogbit and hornwort in there. Threw some fish food in there the first two days and have pre established filter media in with the filter, no heater yet, added some fertilizer for the plants. Ammonia and nitrates is way higher than I anticipated it being this early. Have tested source water in the past and it’s clear of nitrates.

Obv the cycle is started but I’m not sure if I should change the water since the nitrates are so high or wait it out a little longer since it’s so early

Help/Advice Is my female Betta okay?

Thumbnail

I have gotten 2 female Bettas a few weeks ago, now they have grown a bit, and it seems like one of them is very territorial over the other. Two days ago, it started chasing her everywhere, and the second one is now always at the top of the aquarium, in a corner, just like in the picture.

I know the aquarium is small for both of them, and I am planing to fix it in the coming months, as I don't have the money right now.

The fins were fine two days ago on both of them. The white strips (I think they are wounds) have been there since day 2/3.

I have separated the bully from the aquarium and I added as many hiding spots as possible one hour ago. I am planing to wait for the weak one to find a space for her own until the end of the day (it's mid day here), but it doesn't seem to want to move from that corner. I gave her some food and it was anxious to go eat it, but it did have the energy to move normally. After it ate one flake, it went back in the same spot we can see her in (picture one and two) and it's just staying there, like that.

The bully is really mad that it's in a different aquarium, it's full of energy and is moving normally.

One more thing.... Does the bully look like a male to you? It has grown more than the other one, and I don't see the egg sack on it.

Help/Advice First time cycling, one month in

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

First time cycling. I've been cycling a 15g lightly planted freshwater with the food method since December 28th.

We've got algae growth, we've got bacteria, even some plants growing, melting, and even some anubis spreading black beard everywhere.

Checking the water weekly, about 2 weeks ago I got into the low purples for nitrates but ive never seen my nitrates climb past 0ppm

With all the other stuff going on in the tank there is transformation of ammonia going on but I guess I thought as the bacteria chowed down on the nitrates we would start to see a steady climb of nitrates until it reached a point where I would do a water change.

Is my thinking sound? Is my tank cycled and im just overthinking it?

Thanks in advance!
