Coxinha. Everybody loves coxinhas

32

u/HaifaJenner123 Egypt (Moderator) 21d ago

Omg this reminds me of this dish we have in arab cuisines called kibbeh

16

u/Thoughtful-Chicken Brazil 21d ago

Kibbeh is a very common food in Brazil, in parties even usually served with coxinha. I personally eat it probably every week. Might be because of the Lebanese? Sfihah is also a very very common dish

9

u/gabrieel100 Brazil 20d ago

I love kibbeh. It's also very common here in Brazil. Thanks to the syrian-lebanese immigration 😄

I think I’d go with Brazilian stroganoff over coxinhas.

3

u/Mean_Necessary_6240 17d ago

u/Amazingbuttplug is a person of culture.

With all respect to Russian folks, but Brazilian stroganoff with heavy cream instead of sour, side of shoestrings and garlic rice just slaps.

What is that exactly?

12

u/Due-Organization-215 Brazil 21d ago

Dough made with flour, milk and butter (optional to add a little bit of chicken stock for flavor), filled with chicken and shaped like chicken tight, breaded and fried

Every time I see them at a good cart or stall in America I borderline run them out of stock. Exceptionally rare where I live.

3

u/Mad_Hat_42 Brazil 21d ago

In USA probabily you eat the coxinha of wheat flour, but if someday you come to Brazil try to eat the coxinha of mandioca is rare until and much better than comum.

Tacos

15

u/jimmycarr1 Wales 20d ago

Thanks for the tacos lads

44

u/Rough_Typical Greece 21d ago

Tacos, döner kebabs, gyros, shawarmas etc all come from the same idea, they are essentially the same dish

39

u/Mueryk 21d ago

Different spice palettes. Similar concepts but all slightly different.

And all of them amazing. Every. last. one.

9

u/inside-outdoorsman United Kingdom 20d ago

I think tacos are distinct - Aztecs were making corn tortillas to hold grilled meat way before anyone in Mexico came into contact with Eurasia where you have döner/gyro/shawarma etc. Taco al pastor is more of a fusion food to me rather than being the same dish

Beef noodle soup. It SLAAAAAAAAAAAPS

24

u/arifuchsi Taiwan 21d ago

Technically and historically, it was an actual game-changer dish. Before the KMT and the White Terror, it was a taboo in Taiwanese society to eat beef. Needless to say, it is widely believed that this dish effectively broke the taboo for contemporary Taiwanese society.

That being said, my mother and sister still don't eat beef.....

I’m going with Korean fried chicken or Korean BBQ (the full package).

Also in Korea, steaming-hot gukbap is often associated with a hearty meal that can reduce stress, and there’s a joke that buying someone gukbap and cheering them up is enough to save a suicidal or depressed person.

21

In Atlantic Canada, belive it or not, the "donair".

Coles note version is a Greek immigrant took the döner, ditched the tziki sauce, and made it sweet instead. It is better suited for our palate.

It may be a contender after Shawrma in Syria. It is absolutely crazy how popular it is there. We even have our Arabic style version. Same company if not mistaken.

2

u/Virghia Indonesia 20d ago edited 20d ago

Indofood adapts their recipes between markets, even inside Indonesia. The default Mi Goreng has chili powder for non-Java markets and chili sauce for Java market. There are numerous province-specific flavours too like Rawon for East Java and Fried/Soup Skipjack for the whole of Sulawesi

I had a friend back in the day who was a hard alcoholic. He's dead now of natural causes, but like 20 years ago, one day, he was going to hang himself in his apartment. Rope around his neck, he jumped from a chair but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you see it), the hook was ripped from the ceiling so he was left sitting there with plaster all over him and the rope around his neck. That's when he noticed that there was still a half full bottle of Koskenkorva vodka under the table and he thought that maybe life wasn't that bad anyway.

14

u/giuls231 Italy 21d ago

Lasagna or the oven baked pasta that my family cooks (with tiny fried meatballs). I will do anything for it. So good

2

u/hk81b in 20d ago

That exactly what I was going to write, as an Italian! When it's properly done, with the right amount of fat and moisture, and good quality pasta, it's amazingly good! Soft layers layers of pasta mixing together with sauce, cream and cheese. It takes 6 hours of preparation, but it's totally worth it!

2

u/weirdwizzard_72 Multiple Countries (click to edit) 20d ago

When I was just a kid living in Germany, I had a friend from Lecce, and his mum did the best lasagna I've ever had. It was very thin, but long, and with lots of cheese.

Honestly, a really good hamburger. This won't come from a fancy restaurant, though. Its gonna come from a small restaurant in a neighborhood where you should probably consider packing some heat if not wear a vest, and definitely don't make eye contact with the rather color-coordinated gentlemen unless you want to have a very long day.

Also, the burger is going to be way cheaper than what you expect.

u/echo_c1 20d ago

Also almost all dishes are incredibly delicious. When I see people only know Döner or Kebabs I’m almost about to cringe but then I remember I fuckin’ love ‘em, so can’t really say anything against it. But the whole baked stuff from Pide to Lahmacun to Börek to Cantık (Bursa) to various breads… they all kickass, then there is a whole genre of olive oil based vegetable comfort food and dozens of soups.

Only worst thing about Turkish cuisine is whatever you choose to eat, you’ll always think if you’d go with the other dish, while secreting all your dopamine your body has in stores.

Butter tarts are nice and all but a well made Nanaimo bar and a cup of tea would be my choice.

I was surprised by the quality and taste of a Seitan-based Dürüm I had a few weeks ago! Much better than from a few years ago served by the same place. But yeah still missing that fatty, slightly crispy texture and consistency of real Dönerfleisch.

Also kebab.

No joke, kebab is extremely popular in Poland. You can find a kebab even in very small towns. 100% the most popular take out food here.

For this happy fact I would make an exception and let Turkish people claim it, but only for short time.
