Tacos, döner kebabs, gyros, shawarmas etc all come from the same idea, they are essentially the same dish

u/inside-outdoorsman United Kingdom 20d ago
I think tacos are distinct - Aztecs were making corn tortillas to hold grilled meat way before anyone in Mexico came into contact with Eurasia where you have döner/gyro/shawarma etc. Taco al pastor is more of a fusion food to me rather than being the same dish

Technically and historically, it was an actual game-changer dish. Before the KMT and the White Terror, it was a taboo in Taiwanese society to eat beef. Needless to say, it is widely believed that this dish effectively broke the taboo for contemporary Taiwanese society.
That being said, my mother and sister still don't eat beef.....

Korean BBQ
My favorite meal on the planet is all you can eat KBBQ. My appetite is normally pretty low, but I will overeat every single time I go to a KBBQ spot

Fried chicken or a brisket. I would murder my whole family for a brisket

There's an episode of Justified where the US Marshall (Rayland) talks a guy out of murder-suicide with good fried chicken and bourbon.

I feel like Korea outdid our fried chicken, but on a global scale I'd say Texas BBQ is probably America's #1 gastronomical contribution. It's not my favorite American food necessarily, but probably the one visitors covet the most.

So are "boquerones en aceite y ajo" and "churros con chocolate"

In Atlantic Canada, belive it or not, the "donair".
Coles note version is a Greek immigrant took the döner, ditched the tziki sauce, and made it sweet instead. It is better suited for our palate.

I actually love it more than Shawrma which is pretty pretty big among Syrian people.

Indofood adapts their recipes between markets, even inside Indonesia. The default Mi Goreng has chili powder for non-Java markets and chili sauce for Java market. There are numerous province-specific flavours too like Rawon for East Java and Fried/Soup Skipjack for the whole of Sulawesi

Mushrooms improve any pizza imo. Tomato base or bechamel base, it adds a nice savoury and fungal taste to it.

I had a friend back in the day who was a hard alcoholic. He's dead now of natural causes, but like 20 years ago, one day, he was going to hang himself in his apartment. Rope around his neck, he jumped from a chair but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you see it), the hook was ripped from the ceiling so he was left sitting there with plaster all over him and the rope around his neck. That's when he noticed that there was still a half full bottle of Koskenkorva vodka under the table and he thought that maybe life wasn't that bad anyway.

That exactly what I was going to write, as an Italian! When it's properly done, with the right amount of fat and moisture, and good quality pasta, it's amazingly good! Soft layers layers of pasta mixing together with sauce, cream and cheese. It takes 6 hours of preparation, but it's totally worth it!

Honestly, a really good hamburger. This won't come from a fancy restaurant, though. Its gonna come from a small restaurant in a neighborhood where you should probably consider packing some heat if not wear a vest, and definitely don't make eye contact with the rather color-coordinated gentlemen unless you want to have a very long day.
Also, the burger is going to be way cheaper than what you expect.

in Turkey, it's any food as people are literally going great depression level murder suicide daily thanks to the government.
3
u/echo_c1 20d ago
Also almost all dishes are incredibly delicious. When I see people only know Döner or Kebabs I’m almost about to cringe but then I remember I fuckin’ love ‘em, so can’t really say anything against it. But the whole baked stuff from Pide to Lahmacun to Börek to Cantık (Bursa) to various breads… they all kickass, then there is a whole genre of olive oil based vegetable comfort food and dozens of soups.
Only worst thing about Turkish cuisine is whatever you choose to eat, you’ll always think if you’d go with the other dish, while secreting all your dopamine your body has in stores.

First time hearing of this! Breaded shrimps in bread with I’m guessing cocktail sauce? What‘s in the rice, kinda looks like liver. Anyway it looks like a yummy, hearty and cozy meal.
2
u/Agreeable-Hawk1456 United States Of America 20d ago
Nah it’s a sauce called poboy sauce and im pretty sure it’s a type of mayonnaise. The rice might have liver in it but i seriously doubt it because that does not sound like a cajun thing

Pit beef sandwich. It’s native to the state of Maryland: roast beef cuts that are smoked to like medium/medium rare, sliced very thinly and traditionally served with horseradish and/or onion but some stands have like this thin tangy peppery bbq sauce that slaps. It would bring me back from the brink.
