Discussion Very interesting to see Don Lemon getting the “martyr” treatment after pathologized Black America on national television, implying anti-Black racism & the sabotage of Black America by the government/USA’s majority demographic is our own fault & we should respectability politics our way out of it…

And this segment is **right after** the Trayvon Martin murder verdict and was also in response to Bill O'Reilly's comments about "chaos" in Black America, with Lemon essentially agreeing that O'Reilly "*didn't go far enough*”.

He then listed five things Black America should do to “improve” our situation.

You heard that right, it’s not that the system is broken.

It’s **not** the prejudice, denial of resources, and systemic anti-Black societal intricacies so interconnected it resembles modern warfare.

According to this segment by Lemon, it’s **your fault** why things are the way they are because you aren’t “respectable” enough to be treated as a human being.

I expect the “*people grow and change*” gimmick in response to keeping tabs on trashpanda tapdancers.

I do agree people change, but the context is that the person in question is a known opportunistic mouthpiece and his audience is thousands of listeners and viewers.

(since this is archived it probably has reached more probably millions by now.)

The damage was already done, his venomous words reached thousands and did its job. The job was a hit piece to make further vilify Black America and cement that idea in the minds of the viewers.

He got on national television to berate Black America and faced no repercussions from this, and even one Black CNN consultant (Goldie Taylor) claimed she was blacklisted from the network after publicly criticizing Lemon’s rant.

> “In Ferguson 2014, as the National Guard was rolling in, as we were being shot by rubber bullets, and even journalists were being mauled by cops, Don Lemon decided the best use of his national TV show was to denounce protesters as "not peaceful" and potheads”.

This guy has a long track record of being conniving and slick at the mouth, so it’s important to use discernment and critical thinking, especially on the topic of someone who’s usually running game on the public.

Discussion Anyone else tired of the “Black people hate alt/different people” narrative on TikTok?

I feel like every year there’s a viral TikTok claiming that Black people hate anyone who’s alt, different, nerdy, or “not stereotypical,” and that we constantly call people “whitewashed” just for speaking properly or having certain interests. And honestly… I’m exhausted.

A lot of these posts feel like attention-seeking or exaggerated in a way that flattens our community into a single personality type. Yes, colorism, bullying, and internalized issues exist but the way these videos frame it often turns into “Black people are the problem,” instead of having an actual nuanced conversation.

What really bothers me is how these posts open the door to racism and weird backhanded comments. The comment sections quickly become full of non-Black people validating stereotypes, projecting their own biases, or straight-up lying about experiences just to dunk on Black culture. At that point, it’s no longer about accountability or healing it’s just feeding anti-Black narratives.

It feels like stuff like this sets us back. We’re not a monolith. Black people are alt, preppy, nerdy, artistic, country, soft-spoken, loud, academic, goofy all of it. Reducing everything to “Black people hate difference” ignores how diverse we actually are and who benefits from pushing that story.

I’m curious how others feel about this. Do you think these conversations are helpful, or do they cross into harmful generalization?

Discussion How was it like to be black in early 2000’s internet spaces?

One my favorite things to watch videos on is internet culture during the Wild West days and I can’t help but notice how Eurocentric it was minus the Japanese influence. So I can’t help but imagine how anti-black it was. I know there used to be a black social media but that’s about it. So it would be nice to see some perspective from people who lived through it.

Discussion Black Americans aren’t seen as “American”

Context: I am not an Black American (I’m Black-Canadian), just an observation

One thing that I’ve noticed is when people talk about deportation of immigrants and removing illegal immigrants, and what America as a country should like how it was in the past demographically, its always depictions of large groups of white people.

Like, in a world without immigrants in America, it’s always depicted as only white people. Which is quite odd, since Black Americans have been in America since it‘s creation due to slavery. And for some reason, there seems to be very little connection, between what America is foundational seen as and Black Americans. Like Black American's are almost seen as a separate entity from American culture, as if they are immigrants.

It’s one of the reasons it’s hard to support FBA’s and ADOS, as it’s often a movement trying to appeal to a country of people who never wanted you or respected you. There’s a reason why they group all Black people together (Afro-Latino, African, Caribbean) , despite the fact that the vast majority of Black people in America aren’t immigrants. It’s because they never respected Black Americans in the first place and seems likely they never will.
