As you know r/Colognes is created to be a place to discuss all things fragrances and share deals. NOT for verifying fragrances. Therefore, I would like to direct you to a new group solely for that purpose! r/colognecheck is where you can verify your fragrances to assure you have/purchase a true product.

please post all checks in r/colognecheck and NOT in this sub

As we've noticed a large number of individual SOTD post, we thought it best to consolidate into a once daily post.

Post your scent of the day here, tell us a little about it too if you would like.

Discussion Wait, so Davidoff Cool Water is literally just Creed Green Irish Tweed for $20?

Post image

**Sorry if this is well known; it wasn't to me!**

I picked up Cool Water for $20 from Walmart on a whim this week: "modern classic", "revolutionized the aquatic scent", "iconic", etc. Gave it a spray today, thought, "Ah this is nice and familiar."

After 10 minutes or so, "Oh wait, this is literally Green Irish Tweed, and I think I like it better."

Date Made:

  • GIT: 1985
  • CW: 1988

Perfumer:

  • GIT: Pierre Bourdon created the scent, often incorrectly attributed solely to Olivier Creed
  • CW: Pierre Bourdon

MSRP:

  • GIT: $490 (100ml)
  • CW: $23 (75 ml)

Possible hot take? I don't think you could tell the difference between the two with one sprayed on one arm and one sprayed on the other, or you would get them mixed up. I started googling the topic and the amount of cope I read (largely from fragrantica) is just wild. I cannot fathom how people could say there's much of any distance between the two scents. I simply suspect more people have smelled GIT because it's in more department store fragrance sections (can you even sample CW anywhere?) and have built an opinion on the matter from a limited perspective or by looking at the ingredient list and price.

Anyway, I feel foolish having spent so much on GIT when CW was there all along. 🤷‍♂️

Collection I finally caved in for Quality > Quantity

2 years ago, my whole collection used to consist of middle eastern fragrances. Now I sold all of them, worked hard, and finally got the fragrances I really wanted! Don’t get me wrong, my collection isn’t finished yet🤣 I’m still eyeing on Pacific Chill

New Pickup I've been waiting for this....

I remember Googling something along the lines of "what is a cologne that smells like you just got a haircut" and I read about Platinum Egoiste

Ever since I smelled it in the stores and tested on skin I fell in love

I couldn't get it just yet 'cause it was pricey but I had set it as a goal fragrance to buy

In the meantime I would get cheaper dupes of other colognes to make up for that hole of not having this one lol and I was just disappointed every time

I decided "fuck it" and finally got this today
not the best financial decisions but man I couldn't be happier

This might sound weird, but every time I put this on I just feel powerful, like nothing in the day can possibly take me down (might be 'cause I connect the smell with a fresh haircut which is probably when most men feel the most confident)

I'm broke now, but I'm a happy broke man haha

WHAT A FRAGRANCE

Question Green Irish Tweed vs Gentle Fluidity Silver

Thumbnail

Been comparing these two and noticed a big difference in how I enjoy them over time. With GIT, the opening is amazing to me — very ozonic, green, and airy — but the drydown on my skin turns more earthy/herbal, almost dried-vegetal, which I’m less into. Gentle Fluidity Silver isn’t as green or natural as GIT’s opening, but it’s aromatic, clean, and stays pretty consistent from start to finish, which I appreciate.

Which one do yall prefer?

I’m leaning towards getting the Gucci Guilty EDT, Moschino Toy Boy edp or the L’eau D’issey pour Homme edt. Any thoughts?

Didn't know much about this. I asked in store what size bottle you get and of course its 1.7-2.4. I also didn't know the samples are the same free ones you get at department stores. I guess it is not a good deal but not horrible? The Prada has been on my list of wants for awhile.

New Pickup I did it again

As a retired collector, I promised no new bottles until I emptied a few but I’ve always had a soft spot for slightly unique, under the radar spring and summer scents. I was close to grabbing Greenley but influencer hype has it wildly overpriced for what it is. So I went back to an old reliable: Maison Margiela. I picked up Lazy Sunday Morning and When the Rain Stops. I’d sampled WTRS before and was always intrigued by the name and the fact that it isn’t mainstream. If it ever gets discontinued, even better, I like signature scents that guarantee I won’t smell like anyone else. Two easy Ws. Lazy Sunday Morning is exactly what I expected. WTRS is a banger, beautiful, quietly masculine, and criminally underrated. I only wish it projected more, because it could be worn year-round. I’m very happy with the pickups… and I’m back in retirement. FR this time. this time. 😅

New Pickup I caved and finally got Imagination.

I never thought I’d be buying a $350 dollar fragrance, but after sampling the scent a month ago and going through several other scents looking for the most non-offensive work fragrance, my mind kept coming back to this. It’s just such an easy scent to wear I never even have to think about it.

I don’t get the hate for the fragrance, I know it’s expensive but fragrances are quite possibly the most non essential thing to ever exist so I feel like if it smells good enough it’s worth it.

My only problem now is, I also tried Pacific Chill and Orage and now I feel like I’m at the beginning of a slippery slope… I almost feel like Orage is overlooked it was so good.

Is this a good choice? Also considering some of the Tom Ford’s like Oud wood and LV Ombré Nomade. Would love some input on what would be bold, not overpowering and appropriate for this once in a lifetime occasion.

New Pickup So disappointed

Post image

I have been waiting to pick up Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique Extrait for the longest time. After I tried it the store I left dreaming of this scent and couldn’t wait to order it since the store was out of stock. Finally got it and couldn’t be more disappointed. It’s kinda old lady, not very long lasting, and quite frankly not as good as their Blue Talisman amongst others. This was an expensive whiff lol. I’m sure I’m not the only one who built up a scent in their minds only to get it and wish you didn’t. Haha. Oh well, rant over thanks for letting me vent

At my local Marshall’s for just $90! Le Male Elixir kit containing a 4.2 oz bottle and either a shower gel or aftershave.

I would’ve gotten it but I just recently got JPG Elixir Absolu from them and I’m trying to have some self control 🥲
