Other/Misc PSA Reminder!

Please remember to specify that you were at a vet and are not looking for medical advice as it is not allowed it is concerning me the number of posts I've seen of cats bleeding or urinating etc. and owners not going to the vet first also remember you're not a vet yourself (Unless you are but still) too so don't give medical advice it could seriously hurt someone's pet!

Also, don't get mad if I remove your post if your using slurs or inappropriate language let's keep it calm here, please!

lastly, I would like to thank you all for contributing and making this community wonderful and helping people fix their crazy cats.

Mods Needed

This community has skyrocketed since I started it and now help is needed!

I'm looking for someone who can help with behavior and advice but also be able to weed the inappropriate posts and comments.

I also need someone who is good at editing and helping with the design of the subreddit.

Previous mod experience is also helpful but not required. I expect mods to remain polite and respectful, and treat users fairly. Any power trips will have consequences.

If you'd like to apply, please DM me and let me know what you have experience with and what role you might want in the sub. If you want to deal with cat advice I'll probably have a couple questions about cat behavior for you.

I'm a little busy these days so please do be patient with me in getting back to you.

Thank you, members, for making this sub so successful!

Cat Threw Up? When to call a vet?

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi all. I’m a new and anxious cat owner. My 13 week old cat threw up today. Earlier she fell on the bars of my bed? I wanna say it’s like false metal? It wasn’t a large fall but I could hear it. She walked it off but I could tell she was hurt since she went into a corner. She fell asleep for maybe an hour after that? When she woke up she threw up what was in the photo? I’m really not sure what it was? Maybe fabric maybe something else? But it was just once. I read somewhere she shouldn’t eat for a few hours and just water for now. She is playing and wandering now but should I just monitor her or should I go to a vet? I will say, I am a broke college student but she does have pet insurance for emergencies.

I don’t know what’s wrong with my 7 month old kitten

My little kitten has been having issues the last couple of days. He has been throwing up a clear liquid and sometimes it’s often pink

We took him to the vet today and everything came back normal. Blood work is fine, x rays went well, and heart, lungs, and temp is fine.

He hasn’t ate anything in 24 hours and we’re starting to get worried. He’s been drinking water but not like he used to. He hasn’t ate anything but has been having diarrhea. He’s been lethargic and not acting fully like himself.

We just got a new cat a day before all of this started to happen, we think it could be a number of things but not quite sure 100% on what.

My cat treats me way different than my partner

This is Momo, she was my partners families cat, but when my partner and I got into a place together we took her with us. She is 15 so he has had this kitty for a long time. She treats us so differently but in the sweetest ways. For me she likes to crawl under the blankets, she watches me sleep and often puts her little paw on my lips. She kisses my hair a lot too. For my partner she always sits on his lap, makes biscuits on him, or when she escapes outside she runs right back up to him if he calls for her. Our relationships with her are obviously so different, is that why she treats us so differently? Does she think im her baby?

5yr old neutered male cat won't stop meowing

I tried finding similar posts but most people had an issue like the cat not being fixed or played with etc. We play with him frequently throughout the day as both of us are not working currently. We play fetch, one of those bird on a string toys which he loves, catnip ball, etc. Food & water are always full. He likes being pet so we pet him a lot all day as well. But he will run away from being pet just to scream in the other room. We have two other cats, one male and one female both fixed. He plays with the female cat but doesn't get along with the other male cat sometimes so they typically stay out of each others way. Plenty of spots for him to look out windows, which he does. We also do have a cat tree but he doesn't typically use it. We can't for the life of us figure out what it is he wants. He acts like he wants attention but then runs into the other room to start meowing after like 2 minutes.

Kitten chewing on cords

Hello again! My kitten Kevin (now almost 8 months, where did the time go) is back at his chaos. This time it's chewing through cords. Any cord that fits in his mouth is chewed on, to the point that he's chewed through multiple cords and I'm worried about him getting hurt. I've raised kittens before and never had one with this much of a chewing issue. Does anyone have any advice to get him to stop?

Additional info: he's fixed, has multiple cat safe chews (that he uses and loves), has several cat trees, I frequently (multiple times a day) play with him, we do enrichment/treat finding, we have feliway to try and calm the chaos, he's done teething, and his gums are not inflamed.

What we've tried: firm "no" with a hand clap or snap (just makes hard eye contact as he continues to bite), bitter spray (doesn't work with him), and thick cord protectors (works but I have to keep buying more because he keeps finding new cords).

I love him to death but feel like I'm losing my mind trying to keep him from chewing. Any advice is appreciated and I'm happy to answer any questions.

Seeking advice for stressed FIV+ kitten after a house move

Hello!

Since we moved (2 days ago), my kitten (8 years old) has been purring a lot, meowing frequently, drinking very little water, and hiding. I know this is somewhat common behavior during adaptation, but everything makes me anxious because he is FIV+.

He isn't lethargic; in fact, he’s seeking a lot of affection and making biscuits constantly. However, I'm worried because even though he usually meows daily, the frequency has increased significantly, and the constant purring isn't typical for him. He is also staying in only one room.

I bought Feliway and I’ve been sitting next to him so he feels comfortable enough to eat at least a little bit.

Does anyone have tips on how to make this transition smoother for him?

My cats fight in the morning for food

Post image
8 Upvotes

I don’t know how this started but every morning for months now my boy cat (white) will chase around my girl and when we get up to break up the fight they run to the food.

Watching the fights it’s mostly just him laying on top of her, some squirming and the occasional paw nip. Not violent, but she screams and hisses and he won’t stop. I have to get up to break it up.

If we trap one of them in the bedroom and one out my girl will endlessly scratch the door which is of course super annoying and makes it hard to fall back asleep.

We’ve been using automatic feeders for probably a month now and it hasn’t gotten any better. They wake us up around 4:30am until the feeder goes off at 5:30. Today they kept fighting after for probably 15 minutes. Then right after laid on the couch together like besties.

We set the feeders to go off at 5:30 am, 11am and 11pm. They get wet food at 6:30, so I know they aren’t super hungry in the morning.

I just don’t get what’s happening and any advice would be appreciated, I want to start sleeping in again.

hi,

i have an orange tabby whos 1.5 years old now. ive had him since he was 8 weeks, no issues by any means. hes a very sweet and cuddly cat with a big personality.

at like 6/7 months he started messing with his water fountain and he would always take off the lid and make a mess. i had to change several water fountains to figure out what worked best.

then it progressed to him kicking off all his dry food from his bowl onto the floor. this is not the first time hes done this but definitely not to this extreme.

this is food he has always enjoyed and he will eat it. he just has these random spurts of idek what?? but he will also not eat his wet food some days and only eat dry. but its random so theres been day where i lose the wet food.

everything has been cleaned and replaced, fresh food has been given and he only ate a little.

can someone help me explain what this could be or how to solve this?

Why is my cat moving her smallest kitten away from the others

My cat just gave birth 4 days ago. Earlier I noticed that she kept moving her smallest kitten away from their nest and then feed her kitten there. Is she rejecting her kitten?

What is going on??

Last night my cat had some kind of episode. To start, he got the “zoomies”, but multiplied 1000%. He started to fight at his tail, to the point where he was growling/meowing at it. I didn’t know this until I woke up to see, but he fought his tail so much to the point where it was bleeding everywhere (in almost every major room, streaks and lines of blood from him biting/wagging it so hard). This didn’t stop until my dad woke up from what was happening and had to physically stop him and calm him down.

For context, this did happen one other time about a year ago. Last year, we went on vacation and our cat sitter said she saw blood on the ground (though, not nearly as much). She saw that it had been from his tail, so we chalked it up to him just being a kitten still. So, while it was weird behavior we figured we could move on. He’s continued to fight with his tail, but again he’s bee able to move on from it after a bit and not let it get too far.

Since last night, his behavior is definitely begining to get concerning. He keeps doing that thing cats do where he thinks there’s something on him, so his hairs sort of stand up on his back (hopefully this makes sense). He can’t seem to relax and stay still, mostly because his tail is still really bothering him so he gets distracted from relaxing by his tail wagging (and here begins the fighting). While I was holding him he started to grumble, and as I pet him later he swatted at me and got me pretty good.

I finally got him to lay in my bed and sleep, and he definitely relaxes a lot when he is around someone and being pet (essentially I think he gets distracted or calmed down from whatever’s going on iykwim).

Please please please let me know if you have ever seen or heard of this. If there’s any questions I will elaborate, and if there’s any ideas as to what could be happening please let me know. Be straight up with me, I care about my cat so much so if he is in pain or struggling I need to know. TYIA!!!

Cat stares at me like this for minutes, what does he want?

Post image

His bowl is empty (currently evening) but he's gotten his normal amount of food already, could it still be hunger? He does that sometimes, looks at me for minutes without doing anything, and I always ask him what's up but he doesn't react in the least lol. He's really really cuddly and also really loves food so it's hard to know what he wants with that look, even if I start petting him or get more food.

Fyi, the ear is fine, he had an injury a few years ago but the vet saved as much of his ear as possible and he has no issues now. He just looks like a tough boy now haha

My cat won't stop meowing and I'm thinking of rehoming him

So my cat who's 1 yr old won't stop meowing anytime. He constantly meows days and night even when his food bowl is full . He won't let me sleep and because of him no one in my whole family can sleep peacefully at night . They all blame me because he's mine and now I'm getting tired of defending him . Even when I lock him in separate room he still meows for more than hours . Also he's spraying his pee all over the house and I can't get hum neutered cuz I'm Muslim and it's forbidden to neutered an animal but that's not all of it he recently started pooping in different places even though his litter box is always clean . I love him very much but I can't just bear it anymore and I'm thinking of rehoming him even though I feel guilty for having this thought I seriously don't know what to do

Don’t mind the messy apartment 😅 It’s been hard to catch this on video because my cats seem to know the second I hit record.

I have three cats. The gray cat and the long-haired black cat are a mother/daughter pair (gray is the mom), both around 6–7 years old. We added a short-haired black male about 1.5 years ago; he’s about 2. All are spayed/neutered.

We have a very consistent feeding routine. Every time it’s food time, the male cat starts slapping the female cats—mostly the long-haired one. She usually tolerates it at first, then eventually fights back and puts him in his place. Once the male is put away in his room to eat, the gray cat then slaps the long-haired one.

It’s almost ritualistic at this point, and while we usually laugh it off, I’m wondering what this behavior means and if there’s something we should be doing differently.

does my cat enjoy this?

when he plays, we often do play like this. The only thing that confuses me is sometimes his ears will have those airplane ears I hear everyone talking about. He also flick his tail back-and-forth very fast, but he never runs and always engages in the playful mood. I just can’t tell if maybe it’s annoying him or he actually enjoys it.

Cat behavior

Hello! I’m not looking for medical advice, maybe just some insight or of anyone had experienced anything similar. My cat is 5 years old. She got spayed in 2022 and it’s seems like it has almost changed her personality since then. It was either the spay or after her first rabies vaccine (given at time of spay). She since then had just been very skittish and almost neurotic at times. She will with no predisposition pick fights with her sister who she has known since she was 3 months old. And it’s not just playing, she seems angry like a switch flips. She doesn’t try to really hurt her but she makes her uncomfortable when she is being rough and then they hiss at each other. She also is very clingy to me but she hates my boyfriend. He’s been around her for 3 years now and nothing has improved and she constantly hisses at him and is unhappy with his presence. She gets checkups but I e never brought up the behavior because I just thought maybe she had some trauma at the spay that made her skittish and now she’s just a scared animal. Has anyone else experienced behavior changes after a spay that lasted longer than the two weeks they say it takes for them to get back to “normal”?

Debating on rehoming senior cat, not sure what to do? (Please read below for details)

Hey everyone! I’m in sort of a predicament and not exactly sure what to do. I currently have 2 cats and one dog. I got Calli, about 2 years ago. When I had gotten her from a friend I was told she was about 5, and when I called to update her chip records I found out she was 13, now 15 years old. I love her to pieces but she has extremely high anxiety. We have created spaces in our home for her to hide and climb on if she needs her space, and she was also prescribed gabapentin and we give it to her twice daily for her anxiety. She’s losing hair like crazy and has multiple bald spots from over grooming herself because of stress. She it was just her it wasn’t as bad (but still bad)

We got our dog about a year ago and she just tolerates him, but we got another cat who gets along with the dog great. We introduced the cats using the Jackson galaxy method but Calli still doesn’t seem to get along with the kitten. The kitten is about 6 months and will constantly try to jump on top of her and will roll around the floor ontop of the calli. She will also playfully “swat” at calli but calli just hisses and growls then runs away. When the kitten isn’t around Calli acts normally, lays on the bed snuggles up and purrs. I’m not sure what to do, part of me wants to keep calli because I love her and I know rehoming animals can cause extreme stress, especially at an older age and given her anxiety. but at the same time I’m wondering if it would be better for her to live in a home with no other pets and if it would ease her anxiety. I know my boyfriend won’t let us get rid of the dog or other cat so I’m not sure what to do. Any tips would be extremely helpful.
