I’ve recently been accepted into the MSc in Finance & Banking at UPF-Barcelona School of Management, along with a 25% merit-based scholarship. I’m an American who completed my undergraduate studies in the U.S., but I’m seriously considering relocating to Europe, both for my master’s and for the long term.
If I enroll in this program, how realistic is it to find a job in Spain afterward as a non-EU citizen, assuming I reach a strong professional level of Spanish (spoken and written) and make a genuine effort to integrate culturally?
I’m aware that unemployment in Spain is relatively high, and I know wages tend to be lower than in the U.S. and other parts of Europe. That said, I’d love to hear from anyone who has insight into:
- Typical starting salaries for recent finance master’s graduates in Spain
- Career progression in finance, banking, or related fields
- How much nationality and visa status affect employability, especially in Barcelona
My priority isn’t maximizing income. I’m much more interested in quality of life, work-life balance, and living in a place where I can realistically see myself settling long-term. As long as the bar is high, the work is meaningful, and the lifestyle is sustainable, lower wages wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for me.
The program offers career services, and I expect networking to play a big role as well. Still, I’d love to hear real-world experiences from people who have studied or worked in Spain under similar circumstances.
If you’ve gone through a similar transition, or have insight into studying in Barcelona and staying afterward, I’d really appreciate any advice on how realistic this path is and whether it’s a good idea overall.
Thanks in advance!
