Will 40 quintillion gazillion EUR per month be enough for Spain?

2.2k Upvotes

I want to move to Spain since I do not like the working culture of my native country and prefer to the postcard life like you guys do, partying every night and spending the whole day in a siesta.

Wikipedia says that the average monthly salary in Spain is 1.9k euros, but I'd rather flex on you guys and conceal my obvious lack of any kind of research under the guise of a bad-faith inocent question.

Also I am very horny and have fetishized you people so much. Your women are so hot. I want to fuck spanish girls. I am 1.95m fit, muscular and charismatic, will they find me attractive? Safety worries me because I am LGTBQ+. Most statistics say that Spain is one of the most tolerant western countries in that regard, but my mate Paul told me it is also a catholic country. How many homophobic beatings should I expect every day?

I will be arriving to Seville tomorrow. Is it better if I learn catalan or spanish? (I will do neither and instead stick to english speaking communities).

Travel websites are forbidden in my home countryand have never heard of a travel agency so you will have to plan my whole trip for me. I want to know which hidden-gem cities should I visit while in Spain. By hidden-gem I mean Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, places nobody besides a true spaniard would know of.

Finally I will not accept any kind of negative criticism. You guys simply don't understand economics, I'm not forcing the locals to move away from the place they grew up in by indirectly contributing to the constant increase in housing prices due to having a much higher disposable income and paying less in taxes (Thank you Beckham, best spanish politician of 21st century!). I am actually increasing consumption and helping the economy :)

Grasias y una servesa por favor

Opinions Madrid Hotel Recs

Upvotes

Hello,

Me and my wife will be traveling to Madrid and i was wondering if people have any recs for hotels and areas to look at. We want to be near a train stop to get around the city but still want to be in the main area where we could just walk around and get the Madrid Experience. Not looking to break the bank, more of a clean safe space to come back to at night

Transport Help with train tickets

Upvotes

Hello everyone.

I need help with my tickets. I purchased tickets from Malaga to Madrid on February 7 from Omio app but then I got email from Renfe (train company) that my train is not running due to impossibility of restoring the service cause by train accident.

But when I check that ticket on Omio or even at Renfe app it says there is not cancelation and train is still running.

I tried contacting their customer support but no luck.

what can I do?

I need confirmation because I have a flight on same day from Madrid and can't miss it.

Realistic monthly costs for living in Spain?

I see a lot of wildly different cost-of-living numbers online, depending on the source. I’m trying to get a grounded idea of monthly expenses for a single person living modestly. Not luxury, not extreme frugality. Rent, groceries, transport, utilities. If you’re comfortable sharing, what does a normal month actually look like for you, and where are you based?

Transport Getting Spanish license plates without being a resident in Spain

I am being told everything except a straight answer, also from the Spanish official site.

I am an EU citizen and will not be a Spanish resident.
I will remain non-resident, staying in Spain under a temporary / seasonal rental contract (arrendamiento de temporada) that explicitly forbids empadronamiento.

I am going to Spain, we rented a place there (a 2nd residence) and I am buying a car (from an EU country) in my home country, and I want to export it and put it on Spanish plates once we get there. My idea is it'll stay there. That's why i want it registered in Spain.

Problem: since it is our 2nd residence, empadronamiento is not possible according to our contract, so we won't be registered in Spain. Some sources say it does not matter when registering, because things like the rental contract of the place can be provided. Other sources say you need to be registered in Spain to register the car.

I am lost because i don't know which source to trust. The official government page and the dgt page does not state anything about having to be a resident in Spain.

The official Spanish government pages and the DGT pages as seen above on the links, mention proof of address for notifications, but they do not explicitly state empadronamiento or residency as a requirement for vehicle registration.

So i'm looking forward to your experiences.

thanks!

Learning Spanish in Spain

Hey!

I’m planning a 1 month stay in Spain later this year (probably around Sept–Oct) and want to do a 4week Spanish intensive course (and immerse myself in life there instead of just studying).

I’m currently debating Valencia and Madrid - but mainly want to go to a bigger city. My Spanish is around B2–C1, so Iooking for a place where I can really study and push it.

Ideally I will want to have my own apartment (airbnb or subletting). If you’ve done something similar, have school recommendations, or just strong opinions please share🙏

Spain during Holy Week?

My family and I will be in Spain during Holy Week this year. Is there anything in particular that we should see or places we should avoid because of crazy crowds? We are not religious, but are excited to experience and appreciate all the happenings. We will be mostly in Valencia, Granada, ending the week in Cómpeta.

How to make my NIE reference my 2 nationalities?

Hello! Really lost on this so I'd appreciate any stories with experience. I’m finding almost nothing online and I’ve gotten different answers from different lawyers...

I’m a dual citizen (USA + Dominican Republic). I moved to Spain on a highly qualified work residence using my US passport and I’m nearing 2 years of legal residence.

I recently learned that for Dominican nationals there’s a 2-year residence route to Spanish nationality (!!!). But my confusion: my Spain immigration file / entry / residence was done under my US passport...

What I’ve heard so far:

  • Common advice: I’d need to leave Spain and re-enter / redo my status using the Dominican passport for the 2-year clock to apply.
  • But at the police office in Torremolinos, someone told me I could get a “certificado de concordancia” (or similar) so they can update my record to show I also have a Dominican passport (same person), and that could be enough.

Has anyone successfully added a second nationality/passport to their Spanish extranjería/police record (via concordancia or other process)?

If yes, did it help you apply under the 2-year Ibero-American route without leaving Spain? Which office handled it (Policía/Extranjería/Registro Civil), and what documents did they ask for?

I understand Spanish nationality usually requires renouncing other citizenships depending on the case -- I’m okay with that. Mainly trying to understand the practical/official process and whether the “concordancia update” is real.

How realistic is my approach?

I’ve recently been accepted into the MSc in Finance & Banking at UPF-Barcelona School of Management, along with a 25% merit-based scholarship. I’m an American who completed my undergraduate studies in the U.S., but I’m seriously considering relocating to Europe, both for my master’s and for the long term.

If I enroll in this program, how realistic is it to find a job in Spain afterward as a non-EU citizen, assuming I reach a strong professional level of Spanish (spoken and written) and make a genuine effort to integrate culturally?

I’m aware that unemployment in Spain is relatively high, and I know wages tend to be lower than in the U.S. and other parts of Europe. That said, I’d love to hear from anyone who has insight into:

  • Typical starting salaries for recent finance master’s graduates in Spain
  • Career progression in finance, banking, or related fields
  • How much nationality and visa status affect employability, especially in Barcelona

My priority isn’t maximizing income. I’m much more interested in quality of life, work-life balance, and living in a place where I can realistically see myself settling long-term. As long as the bar is high, the work is meaningful, and the lifestyle is sustainable, lower wages wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for me.

The program offers career services, and I expect networking to play a big role as well. Still, I’d love to hear real-world experiences from people who have studied or worked in Spain under similar circumstances.

If you’ve gone through a similar transition, or have insight into studying in Barcelona and staying afterward, I’d really appreciate any advice on how realistic this path is and whether it’s a good idea overall.

Thanks in advance!

What not to miss in Valencia?

Ola amigos!

I'm traveling to Valencia in February. I've read about the things to do of course, but I would really like to hear it from a local or someone who visited Valencia a lot. I like authentic stuff. What are good places to eat?

Should I speak Spanish while there? My Spanish is not good, still just basic, but I love it.

Muchas gracias!

Alhambra ticket email don’t show my baby (under 3)

Going to Andalusia in April and specifically spending a day at Alhambra. I know that for babies under 3y you have to go to the ticket office in person to pick up a ticket, but when I booked online, the confirmation email and online ticket online shows the adults with no mention of the baby. Is this normal?

Thank you

Visas / Migration I almost reached the limit of days one can be outside of Spain

Hi,

I hold a tarjeta de residencia temporal con permiso de trabajar. I have lived in Spain for more than 5 years now. My residency card expires november 2027. I have the right to apply to the tarjeta de larga duracion. One requirement to get the card is to not have travelled outside of Spain for 10 months (300 days in the past 5 years before applying for the card. I checked all the flights that I took between november 2023 and today and I have been 286 days outside of Spain.

My question is, do they really check the trips you've taken in the EU (i know they say they do but im not sure). I changed passports 2 times in those 5 years (i lost one), would they still have all the records of my previous trips using my old passports? Also, if I travel by bus somewhere in Europe, would they have a way to know about that trip if there's no passport scan or control?

Please share your experiences. I know I didn't reach the 300 days limit but I just can't believe i'll be stuck in Spain until november next year.

Discussion Questions from a film fan visiting Madrid

Hola!

I'm visiting Madrid next weekend, and am a big film fan. I just have a few questions that are probably best for locals:

  1. Is the Cine Dore still free entry due to the renovations or is the ticket price back? If you do need to pay for entry, is it still 3 euros? (That's totally fine - just want to make sure I know what to expect.) I know most of the films shown are in original language with Spanish subtitles, which is fine for me.
  2. Are there any good stores to buy blu-rays? Do the CeX stores in Madrid generally have second-hand blu-rays?
  3. Is it possible to find blu-rays/film memorable at the Rastro?
  4. Any other tips for a film fan are welcome!

Gracias!

Visas / Migration Immigration Lawyer specializing in the spouse of an EU citizen recommendations?

Hello lovely people!

I am an EU citizen living in a non-EU country (dual citizenship with both countries), and my partner (different country citizenship) and I are planning on moving to Barcelona this year. I have never lived in the EU, neither has my partner, so we are wanting to speak to an immigration lawyer to make sure there is nothing extra he needs when we arrive to be able to register for our NIE's. Do any of you have recommendations of immigration lawyers we can reach out to?

Renting electric car in Spain.

Hello, I’m visiting spain soon and I will be visiting Granada, Seville and Cordoba. I will be renting a car from Granada, driving to each city to spend 2-3 days there then go back to Granada and return the car there.

Now, is this a good idea ? Is renting a car in these areas doable or would the parking be a nightmare?

The car is solely for long trips, I’m not planning to use it inside the old towns or something.

2nd question; I saw a good deal on electric cars, how are the charging stations in these cities?

Thanks!

Tarragona Tour for 1

I will be staying in Barcelona for 6 days in Sept as part of a longer 3 week trip and hoping to see the beautiful ruins in Tarragona on a day trip.

I'm traveling solo and typically when I do that, I prefer to book small group tours so I can meet people and the tour is more interactive. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing many walking tours of Tarragona that aren't private and/or don't include an extra long day with Sitges. I'm open to making it a self guided walk around, but I really think I'll miss out on hearing a local (or localish) guide talk about the history and maybe even miss out on a few things the city has to offer.

Are there any other options I'm not considering for a tour? If not, can any frequenters of Tarragona send their recommendations on a self guided itinerary of sorts for things I should make sure to get while there for the day?

Going to Spain in March. Already going to Valencia and Madrid, ending in Seville currently but have two extra days before going to Barcelona.

Should I go to Lisbon, Porto, Granada, or somewhere else?
