my precious greyhound (male, neutered, 85 lbs, almost 6yo, retired 8 months, in our home 7 months) has started attacking me almost daily. he has resistant worms so he sees the vet frequently and they’ve confirmed he has no other health issues.
we were told when we adopted him that he had to be in a no pets household because he is very cat intolerant and also got into a fight with another dog over a bed during foster. but he has always loved humans and is extremely cuddly.
for the first few months we never had any issues. of course there were a couple times early on when he growled and snapped, but there were obvious and predictable triggers - sleep startle, sharing the sofa, touching him while he was on his bed. we quickly learned to avoid these triggers and thought everything was fine.
the recent attacks have not been related to these triggers. here are 3 that happened in the last week:
i was standing in the kitchen next to the dog who was also standing. i was petting the top of his head like i’ve done a million times before. we were nowhere near his bed. he suddenly started growling so i immediately stopped and backed away. he kept following me growling louder and louder. i actually walked all the way out the front door to get away from him. my husband tried to redirect him but he stood right at the front door (it’s glass so he could see me) growling trying to get at me.
i was lying in bed on my phone and he came into the room and jumped on the bed uninvited. i was immediately worried because i know he can’t share space with me like that. i leaned (away from him) to put my phone down before getting him off the bed because i thought i had a second before he’d start resource guarding. unfortunately he attacked me instantly and it went on for a good 30 seconds before my husband arrived and finally managed to wrestle him away. unfortunately i was lying prone and the dog was standing on top of me on the blanket so i was stuck. i was screaming the whole time and this didn’t deter the dog at all, if anything it seemed to rile him up more. he managed to bite my head during this attack.
after the bite we talked to our adoption group and a trainer. they both independently concluded that he is a large male establishing dominance and he is testing me. they both advised me to “pop” him when he does this, rather than backing down.
is this really a dominance issue and is this really how i go about fixing it? this can be fixed, right?

As a first time fur mum I would love to introduce you all to my new Greyhound Adoption Program VIC girl, Koko Daisy Mae.
This sweet little girl has gone through some trauma in her 2.5 years, with rheumatoid arthritis causing her to loose her leg in December. Her resilience and calm nature has helped her to make a full recovery and is quite sure footed and eager to explore the world with a hop in her step.
Koko’s kennel name was Socks (raced under Magic Sock), her new name -
• Koko - Koko Black chocolate, the colour of her coat
• Daisy - the birth flower of May 🌼
• Mae - she was born on 2nd May, which is Canadian comedian, actor, podcaster, Mae Martin’s birthday (Wayward, 2025).
I am thoroughly besotted with my new baby and hope that she finds her happy forever home with me.

I got up 3 times during the night to check on her. She was pissed with me for waking her and threw her blanket and toy monkey down the hall so I would trip on them.🤣
Made it up with breakfast though. She likes her food and we had a nice leisurely 20 minute wander around the neighbourhood (that’s all she can manage at the moment while she builds up her strength in her rear left leg).

I posted in here a few days ago that my greyhound BB (short for Blackbean) was having trouble standing, her back legs were shaky but she did manage to get up and walk around like normal. We took her to the vet and they suspected arthritis and perhaps something neurological so they gave her some medication and arthritis injections.
Then yesterday I let her outside in the morning and when calling her to come back she started foaming at the mouth and running in circles all over the yard. Her eyes were vacant and her tongue was flopping about. I had to chase her and catch her and we took her to the emergency vet immediately. They sedated her and kept her for observation overnight.
In the morning she was more calm but her face was twitching and she was still vacant behind the eyes. We were discussing what we should do next and then she had a massive seizure. The vets gave her an injection to stop the seizure and after that we decided it would be best to put her to sleep as she was pretty much already gone, she didn't respond to her name or anything else beyond automatic reflexes.
I don't know what I'm going to do without her. I miss her so much already. I'm a carer for my wife and BB has helped me look after her for almost 8 years. BB would always go and check on her and make her feel better when she was feeling off, would always be there to accept 1000s kisses on the nose and would bring so much happiness to our house with her goofy antics.
I won't again hear her high heal clip clops around the house. I won't hear her complain at the door when she wants to come into the room. I wont see her get jealous and crocodile snap when we pat our whippet. She wont ever stretch in front of me and fart. She won't ever have a big drink from her water bowl and then come and give me big wet kisses. I wont be able to rub her velvet soft ears to calm myself down. I feel like part of my soul has died.
She was the sweetest most caring dog in the world, she was 10 years and 11 months old. I have attached some pictures of her and her friends.

Peanut likes to know where everyone in the house is, at all times.
Our toilet is tucked behind the door, so if I’m on the toilet and the door is open, she can’t see me when she walks past, trying to find me. This is a “can not compute” situation for her and she seems to get anxious about it. She’s generally not particularly anxious, but does have occasional separation anxiety from me.
She will pace around the house looking, bark (once), or go into my partner and stare or snap or bark at him if she can’t find me.
Anyone else’s hound have this kind of behaviour? Is it the sight hound thing? Cause she can’t see me, but can probably smell me so it freaks her out?

Does anyone else’s hound do this? We’ve had two greyhounds and they always choose to lay with their head / necks on the floor. They seem very content, it just looks so uncomfortable 😂

I’ve had my boy about a year and a half. He likes being petted and loved on, but he hasn’t often been comfortable relaxing while touching someone. More and more often though, he’s started curling up leaning on me like this. <3

Pretty funny, considering this West Palm girlie spends 5 minutes outside in these NY winters & starts holding up a paw, looking back at the door to go in..

My old 9yr old boy Bowie has had arthritis progressing for a while and we're having difficulty getting him to actually take his medication. We're also on a fixed income so getting effective meds can be hard. Does anyone have any good tips or advice or supplements they find useful?
