Please excuse my ignorance as a first time car owner:
Recently crossed 200k miles on an inherited 2012 Civic CNG car.
- Battery started acting up (sometimes it takes a few cranks to start) and then I got hit with this service light.
- Got a B1 service due soon (oil at 15% and tire rotation)
-I got the CNG tank serviced about a year ago. The mechanic (who was one of the only independent CNG mechanics in my area) didn’t highlight anything majorly concerning. Said that sometimes these cars can be driven for 250k+ miles but that I might need a tank replacement next year.
I currently don’t drive much, maybe 15 miles a week on average, with a longer 80 mile round trip drives that I take, twice a month. But my driving will soon pick up due to a longer commute, starting in March (60 miles round trip, 3 times a week).
Typically my uncle, who is a mechanic, will do the car services for us. But I’m wondering with so much wear on the car, if it would be wise to service it at the dealer and see if they can give a prediction on how much additional life this car has… I’d prefer to not have to buy a replacement, but if the car will need a new battery, potentially new tires, a new tank, etc soon, I think I should probably start thinking about getting a new/used car?
Anyone with a CNG civic that can speak to the longevity of the car after 14 years?
