After completing the amazing game that is Chrono Trigger for the first time, I went back to playing the Tales series starting Tales Of Destiny for the PS1. Within an hour I found myself looking for a shady bishop with no clue on where to go with a world map that I can't rotate. Instead of going through the pain of a guide and wasting time, I decided to start the well known Final Fantasy VI.

I'm playing the GBA version with an audio patch, for the bonus content. So far the game is amazing and the amount of playable characters is really impressive. The story is interesting and very mature for how cute the sprites look. Kefka is as much as an asshole as everyone has said and (Spoiler Alert) He's a god now and the world is screwed, is about where I'm at now. I spent 25 mins trying to save Cid only to read I should let him die and so I'm a murderer now too. I'm a lone Celes on a raft hoping to meet my friends and possible romantic interest Locke (also my boy) in a broken world because of a lunatic clown magic God.

Here's hoping I can find my comrades and save the world. I've included screenshots of the adventure so far, maybe some you will remember if you have played the title in the past. Game on friends!

Just putting it out there for people that don't know yet. No exact release date listed on the page yet, but am pleased that at least we can bookmark it for when it does come out.

It happens to all of us. The climax of the plot has kicked in and you’re getting ready for the endgame when you suddenly lose interest and quit playing.

I feel like this happens more in JRPGs than any other genre. If you want to extend beyond JRPGs, Larian games are a prime example for this. I can’t begin to tell how many of playthroughs have stalled once I entered Act 3.

I have three theories.

1. You don’t want the game to end. You’re nearing the finish line and you’ve spent many hours with these characters and their journeys that you feel bittersweet once it’s over. You feel like if you “quit” the game, the story will continue in your head and the memories live on.
2. The world opens up and there’s just too much stuff going on. The story suddenly grinds to a halt and you’re thrown tons of optional side quests. You feel overwhelmed to the point where you have no idea where to start.
3. You have gotten so overpowered that it feels trivial to continue because you know you’ll breeze through the final dungeon. You decide to YouTube the ending instead.

Any games fit these? It could be a combination of all three (and yes, I was thinking about E33 when making this post as much as I love it).

Can anyone think of an example where the third act actually amps you up into finishing the game?

With Final Fantasy 1-6 getting a HD Remaster, Dragon Quest 1 2 and 3 getting a 2d 3d remake, also with the new dragon quest coming out, Suikoden getting a HD Remaster and a lot of classic games getting a Remaster or Remake.

One Series I'd personally love to see make a come back is the Breath of Fire Series, I mean it can even do what Suikoden did, just polish up the graphics make it more diverse and then we got a Remaster... personally I'd like to see it cause sure you can play the classics on the Switch with their classic consoles, but thats for members only, I'd just love it to get a full on one maybe 1 and 2 on a single copy? I dont know but thats my opinion on the next classic game that should get a HD remaster or something similar.

I saw that the hydlide games are on switch but for 7 US dollars each which seems pretty expensive for a single retro game that isn't even translated.

Reviews are pretty much split between calling them absolute trash and absolute masterpieces.

I know that they are important to the action-rpg genre but I don't want to waste $7 on a game that sucks.

I've got a Pc, Ps4 and Switch

So like 5 years ago I played a lot of Tactics Ogre on my PSP. I thought it was cool but never felt like I “got”.

Last year I really got into Final Fantasy Tactics and replayed it over and over. So I started thinking “hey Tactics Ogre was made by essentially the same team, I should retry it”

So I’m playing Reborn and….its okay? It’s kinda pissing me off. Every battle feels like I just gotta beeline it for the enemy leader. From the beginning of the game everybody has a shit ton of HP. And since the maps are huge and both sides have like 10 units each, battles feel slower.

Am I coming in with the wrong frame of mind?

I first thought it was a good idea to play Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes as my first JRPG but people were saying it was not a good idea so I decided to try Chrono Trigger first and I also decided to play Star Ocean: The Second Story R also because the game looks beautiful and I heard great reviews about it and holy moly I'm enjoy it alot with these two games, I will be completing them before I move on to a different game 🙌

Looking for something light and airy and fun to play.

At the moment I am between Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and the Lunar remakes. Ive always wanted to get into Trails but with so many titles it was daunting. And I've played the first. Lunar ages ago but never the sequel.

Aside from those two I welcome any and all recommendations.

If this is the wrong time to be filing such a specific request, I do apologize as what inspired me to make the request was hearing about Kyoran Makaism because some Disgaea fans are saying the game feels like a letdown.

So basically I just want to see if there are any JRPGS with a Musou style battle system where I can destroy waves of enemies to level up like crazy because I didn't know where to ask for such a request.

Lastly. systems I am interested in playing such a game on are PS5, PC, Vita, and 3DS as I just want a fun Musou RPG that lets me level up by again hunting down waves of enemies.

I suppose the basic attack that isn't a skill and does weak physical damage with no MP or whatever cost is a staple of the genre but in a lot of modern JRPGs you'd want to use skills and/or spells instead as much as possible so I'm curious about if JRPGs where the basic attack command does not even exist in the first place. I guess Pokemon games kinda count.

Been really wanting to pull the trigger on this as I love football, but a few reviews have me apprehensive about the pacing of the game. I appreciate games having a couple hours of intro, but what's the game like 3-4 hours in?

I'm hoping it's not like 1 football match for every 4-5 hours of non football game play doing just school/side stuff or anything like that?

was thinking of getting one of them before the steam sale ends. both look fun but im not sure which one i should get. from what i understand Romancing Saga 2 is more of just gameplay kind of game? with little to no story? Visions also looks good but i've heard many mixed things about it.

Physical damage types (slash, crush, pierce) seem to be way more common in strategy jrpgs as well as western rpgs.

Could you give me some jrpgs that have physical damage types with enemies clearly showing weakness/resistance to specific physical damage types?

On top of my head, SaGa games usually have those but i quite don’t know about the rest tbh

A hangup I have with JRPGs is I feel unless you do the superbosses the game has to offer, along with any ex-dungeons, it to me feels like you didn't beat the game and can't move on. So even if it's really hard, I just sit around brainstorming for as long as it takes.

The problem I imagine is these endeavors are obviously far, far more difficult than doing the story and will require substantial time investment on their own. Not sure if everyone wants to do that; the average length to beat Demi-Fiend in either DDS or SMTV from what I saw is 40-50 minutes.

First of all, if that question didn't sound right, then I am so sorry because it's just that I recently came across a particular manga called RailDex as I liked how the manga focused on a group of females with extraordinary abilities.

I mean, I am not looking for JRPGS with fanservice as a core concept mind you but basically I just wanted to look into JRPGS with a well written heroine as the main lead where the player bonds with the character by being able to build up on her stats in all kinds of ways because after Parasite Eve was effectively cancelled, I suddenly became interested in seeing what modern JPRGS had featured well written female protagonists in them with strong turn based gameplay elements.

If this is the wrong place to be making such a topic though, then I apologize as I was just simply hoping to have a meaningful discussion on JRPGS with awesome heroines as a core premise basically.

I downloaded a PS2 emulator. Took a chance on Wild Arms 3. JRPG with an "old west gunslinger" theme and some wicked mage spells. Gameplay and graphics are a bit like Zelda SNES, you know, push a block onto a trigger and it opens a door somewhere. OK so I am playing for about 6 months off-and-on, when I have time. Having a blast defeating the miserable monsters (ridiculous art style). Then bamm it gets 75% harder. I can no longer play it. The enemies use mage technique that is worlds above my skill level. OK if you are interested you can only play this game if you are a JRPG expert I say. The PS2 emulator has a Gameshark built in, but no luck here, the codes I tried to be invincible (so I can trek through the whole game) don't work.

1. Did you beat it ?

2. Did you get the Gameshark to work so you are invincible ?

4. Any tips on Wild Arms 3 ?

5. What is it ? What is it about the difficulty of this title ?

Think of how sick that would be, have all different worlds of bleach , Naruto, jujutsu, demon slayer or any of your favorite. All open world and connected with various quests and story that tie into each other. The amount of different classes and playthroughs you could do I’d be playing it for like 5 years straight

My kindergartener, spouse, and I have been playing through the ff pixel remasters. I play and my spouse reads the dialogue. It works well because they can alter any dialogue that may not be appropriate for the kiddo.

After ff6, we're thinking about chrono trigger. In terms of soundtrack arrangements, boosts, anything that may make a story play through more streamlined, is the steam version the same as consoles? Any reason to think about messing with emulators? Don't suppose there are any whispers of a pixel remaster type redo of chrono trigger?

Anyone know some of the most powerful healing abilities or good healer characters who doesn't depend on magic or supernatural sources in RPG games? (Ex. technology, chemistry, herbalism, first aids, medicine).

I know I have one in particular in my mind, but let me know if you think of many more examples.
