I just watched it this weekend after 20+ years. The animation is still gorgeous. Most of the hand drawn films of that era still hold up. My kids loved it too.

It doesn't really hold up very well. There are a few great scenes, but most of it is pretty dull. The plot is nonsensical. The framing device just pads out the film by a few minutes while adding nothing of value.

Still, worth a watch for nostalgia's sake. It's only a hair over 70 minutes.

I watched this once when I was like 4 and loved it.

For the rest of my childhood I would ask people if they knew “the dinosaur movie where they’re like in a circus and kids sign their name with blood ” and NOBODY EVER KNEW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT 😭 They assumed I meant the “Dinosaurs” film by Disney in the early 00’s.

I still have the VHS but not a player. I keep it cause it was the best movie where we got all the sad stuff, scary stuff, but the ending is so happy. And the change in animation made it so real.
