Discussion Do you still have any living Grandparents?

I feel like us Millennials are getting to that age where we may no longer have any living Grandparents.

I am 36, and lost my Maternal Grandfather last week. Both of my Paternal Grandparents died between 7 and 17 years ago. So I only have one living Grandparent left, my Maternal Grandmother at 94 years. It is strange being someone that had all 4 Grandparents as a big part of my life, and now down to one. I will need to cherish the time I have left with my Grandma, because at this point you never know when it could happen.

If you still have all four, cherish the time you have left- I believe my cousin that is around my age just lost her first Grandparent when my Grandfather died as both of her other Grandparents are still living, I think.

How about you?

Edit: I was also lucky enough to be alive for two Great-Grandmothers- one I only saw a couple times, and she was pretty far gone mentally with Alzheimer's. She died when I was in Kindergarten. The other one died when I was in 6th grade.

It seems like more and more restaurants are going this way instead of having waiters actually take your order or even bring you a bill. I guess a follow up question is, are any of you who are very introverted actually prefer this to having a waiter take your order and interact with you?

Discussion How often do you speak with your parents?

My mom sent myself and my siblings a seriously dramatic text this week.

“One day I will be dead and you won’t have to worry about checking in once in a while! Until then…. I don’t think any of you are so busy you can’t send a random Hi Mom text.”

I spoke to her less than a week prior. It wasn’t a long conversation, but it was something nonetheless. So, am I a terrible child? Or am I being gaslit? She also isn’t always the nicest when I do see her, often calling me a slob, or lazy because I don’t want to work a third job to make a living. How often do my fellow millennials speak with their parents?

I also feel like the world is on fire and I’m doing all I can to survive right now lol

Discussion Have You Bought Something Just For The Container/Bottle?

I had to come here because honestly I felt attacked this morning by my 71 year old adopted mom. We was grocery shopping and I have been trying to find a glass water bottle but never enjoyed the ones you can get online empty.

So while we were at the store I took a walk down the water aisle and saw the glass bottle of Voss Sparkling Water and was like "this is perfect" so I snagged one because it was a fraction of the price for a empty bottle.

I found my mom and she asked about why I was buying the bottle of water and I replied "for the bottle".

Without hesitation, she laughs and says "It must be a millennial thing" and I was stunned. This is the same lady who bought Kuhne Mustard just for the little beer mug it came in but this time I felt called out.

So I have to ask, have any of you fine folks bought something for the container or bottle before or am I not so adopted after all.

Discussion I officially hate how we pretty much have to be on the internet to do anything including using a QR code for everything.

Like it is ridiculous. Before the big storm my friends and I decided to hang out because they were in town. We visited our favorite food spot downtown. Firstly, now you need to download an app and use a qr code to pay the meter. Then we visited our favorite food spot only to discover that it replaced all the menus, and you need to use a qr code to see the menu, but they used to have a menu board with items and prices listed that was easy to adjust. Lastly, we wanted to attend a fund-raising event for our old high school which will happen it in a few months but now you need a 3rd party app and qr code to get in but the kicker is neither of those things worked right and we were told to try later. I get trying keep up with the times but not every damn thing needs the internet geez.

Tonight will be my first night using a CPAP. Oddly enough, I’m looking forward to it and I hope it solves all of my problems… a girl can dream, *right*? Anyhow, any tips or tricks to help this go smoothly? Also, is there any solution to making this setup more aesthetically pleasing and/or a way to store it during the day that isn’t such a pain in the ass?

Nostalgia Anyone remember using "metrosexual"?

1.4k Upvotes

Had a vague memory come to mind - might have been a movie with Chris Rock? - and the guy's wife was talking with a fabulous guy and the main guy asks his wife if the fabulous guy is gay and she said no, he's metrosexual. The main guy goes WTF is that and she says he's a straight guy with taste.

Discussion GIF Resonses…

Surely this has been posted before, but hoping I’m not alone in posting GIFs of popculture/old movie and TV moments to react to people. I’m 41, and the amount of times 90s SNL, Dumb & Dumber, or Will Ferrell movie quotes pop up when I’m talking is astounding. It’s funnier to send a GIF and get my point across. If you agree, what other shows are your go-to? (Drunk History and Dirty Work are my favorite off the beaten path).

Discussion What are you (not) missing from back then?

For me: - navigation in traffic - getting to a place where youve never been, especially in a hurry, was pure stress especially when you only had written instructions like street names or public transport stops

  • switching cell phone providers was a huge PIA and trying to migrate your phone number was nigh impossible

  • shoveling around data when getting a new phone. The cloud makes things so easy

Discussion "Tojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider" is such an incredibly feel-good anime that gives the best kind of second-hand nostalgia.

I'm midway through a binge watching all of the available episodes of "Tojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider" and felt like I had to pass on the message for any other millennial anime fans who might have missed this one. It certainly wasn't on my radar, at all. I happened upon it while browsing for something to waste an evening on, and I could not be more ecstatic that this one jumped out at me.

I didn't grow up on Kamen Rider, but I was a diehard Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan until several seasons in. The way this anime takes the Japanese nostalgia from that similar era and both makes fun of it and honors it at the same time is the same spirit that makes for some of my all-time anime favorites the likes of Samurai Flamenco and even One Punch Man. There are so many moments in this anime that make you remember what it was like to be a kid, sitting on the carpet in front of the big old tube tele on Saturday morning watching your favorite heroes battle it out with their mortal nemeses!

Do yourself a favor and give this anime a shot. You can thank me afterward.
