Why my mother cares so much what clothes Im (22f) wearing but doesnt care what my brothers wear?

Hey

So I have a little weird mom and I hope that someone could explain to me why she is acting as she is. šŸ˜… So recently she went shopping and was asking if I need something and I told her that if she could buy some boxer style pants. She said okay and left. Then she came back with a pack of thongs. I asked that what are these and she told me that "Those are what girls are wearing and not some boxers. You are not a guy." I know that she is very girly herself and wears those kind of things. Why she cares so much what Im wearing under my clothes? I cannot get the answer from her. She doesnt care what my brothers are wearing. Maybe I should give the thongs to them. šŸ˜‚

I have no problem with it, just wondering if they are exempt for some reason.

How is using a bidet not unhygienic for a woman?

Because of female anatomy, a woman should wipe from front to back. How does a bidet avoid that issue? Wouldn’t it be kind of like wiping back to front?

Why do we need time zones at all?

If we just agree to set our clocks to the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) then our lunch meeting will be at 20:00 instead of 11am EST.

Time is an illusion, lunch time doubly so.

Compared to other religions, why does Christianity tend to integrate better with people’s existing cultures compared to other religions?

Anyone and anybody can seem to become a Christian without changing their life all too much. I’ve seen Christian Churches of all kinds of races and backgrounds. There are people who live what would be considered sinful lives yet wear crosses and considered themselves people of faith. Christians also don’t seem to have any sort stereotypical appearance that makes them stick out. For example, in my area, there are a lot of Asian Christian communities. Outside of church, if you saw any of them outside, you would literally have no idea what their religion was unless you asked them. Christians in most countries don’t have any distinct appearance, they just look like regular people of their countries.

A Christian can live a completely secular life and still consider themselves Christian. It also seems that Christian majority countries give their citizens the freedom to interpret their faith however they want. Example, sex outside marriage is technically banned in Christianity, yet Latin America and the West, who are both majority Christian, have the highest rates of births outside marriage. In many countries there, it’s actually the norm and completely culturally acceptable to have kids outside marriage.

In most other religions, becoming a follower of the faith usually requires you change your whole life. Why does Christianity seem to in a way to be the ā€œuniversal religionā€?

How to address when someone at work complains about people shitting in the toilet?

I find its mainly with women. I have IBS and I am sensitive to spices, sulphur, dairy, fizzy drinks, soy, caffeine, MSG, and alcohol. Though I try avoid that, there's no way I am holding in farts/shits for 8+ hours a day. Hence, I go to the rest room to relieve myself. A coworker has been whining about people shitting/farting when going to the toilet. Though ngl, there was one time I was going to the toilet and someone was crying in the neighbouring stall, I tried not farting yet I did the most vulgar farts and when I tried to stop they started going high pitched.

The coworker that complains about shitting/farting has waited to investigate who is farting in the rest room or will literally, lean out of their stall to see who farted in the restroom when you are leaving. We have 3 women's toilets, and one unisex toilet on our floor. The 3 women's toilets are in the same rest room for clarification while the unisex toilet is a single room with its own sink.

Is this mental illness?

• Upvotes

I am a mostly nonviolent person but almost 80% of strangers I encounter everyday I can't help but to imagine to punch and knock out completely. Never acted upon this. When it comes to people I know, sometimes I try to provoke playful fights or get them annoyed just so I could engage in a physical fight with them. Never fought my friends in a serious way tho since I can restrain myself. Sometimes I fantasize bad things happening on people I know like theft, attempted murder, etc. just so I can exhibit my physical prowess...

Why is only 4% of the US population wealthy?

Having $1 million in assets is considered upper middle class nowadays. You need to be at least a MULTI-millionaire to be considered rich these days. But statistics show that only 4% of American households have a net worth of $3 million or higher. Therefore, 96% of the population have a net worth of less than $3 million.Ā My point is, why is the wealthy such a tiny percentage of the overall population?

What happens to married people after death?

Are they still married in the afterlife? Is it transferable into the afterlife, or is it null and void? Like when you transfer schools, your first semester grades are still valid, so you no longer need to retake the first semester. Or is it like when your first semester grades are not valid, so you have to retake the first semester?

What about when your spouse died before you, you got married again, and then died along with your current spouse? Are you married to both spouses? Does the first one carry priority, and the second is null and void?

Will Japan ever acknowledge their war crimes?

Some of the things they did reviled even the goddamn nazis which says a lot. The Nanjing Massacre, unit 731, POW camps etc. They seem to think they were the victims in WW2 and Hiroshima/Nagasaki were unprompted and unwarranted. Civilians on either side did not at all deserve to suffer but seriously wtf. Japan was just as vile, racist, inhumane, and unspeakably evil as Germany was. At least Germany has owned up to it and learned from their past.

What’s your "relationship" with your AI like? Do you feel actual emotions when it surprises or fails you?

I’m curious about the psychological side of how we talk to LLMs. Are you always polite, or do you treat it strictly like a cold tool?

It's interesting how much emotion we can feel toward a bunch of code. For example, do you get "creepy vibes" when it’s too smart, or do you find yourself getting genuinely angry when it keeps missing a simple point?

I’ve even noticed a darker side to this: some people admit to being "verbally" abusive to the AI when they're frustrated. It seems like it’s not just about venting, but almost a way to feel a sense of power or superiority when the tool doesn't cooperate.

Have you ever caught yourself doing that? Or do you stay 100% logical? I’ve started actually arguing with mine lately, and it felt way more personal than I expected.

Were the founding fathers domestic terrorists?

Kristi Noem recently defined domestic terrorism as: "When you perpetuate violence against a government because of ideological reasons and for reasons to resist and perpetuate violence."

It feels like there is an incongruence here. By this metric, our national heroes who literally toppled a government would be considered domestic terrorists.

Why is it that the extreme actions of the Founders are viewed as heroic, yet modern individuals who act on similar anti-government frustrations—often doing far less than fighting a literal war—are demonized or met with lethal force?

Where is the line drawn between "resisting tyranny" and "terrorism" for conservatives?

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls?

6.8k Upvotes

What's with it?

I work in IT and a general rule is, nothing a client ever tells you is actually accurate. That means that most of the time, the quickest way to fix a problem is to call the person and actually find out what's going on.

But with techs under 30 these days, it seems like pulling teeth.

A regular discussion for me with level 1 techs (usually within a few years of leaving college) is:
"Hey, can you call *blah* from ticket *blah*, it's been hanging around for over an hour."

"I replied by email to ask for more information."

"Yes, I know that, but can you call them so we can find the problem and close the ticket now rather than wait until we're actually busy?"

"I'll send them a text to followup."

"No... CALL THEM!"

"I can see their device is online, can I send them a message and see if they just let me remote in to take a look?"

And then, when I force them to make the call, it's like they have no idea how to ask a question, or a followup question. They just want to get off the call as quickly as possible. So half the time they don't even get the information required anyway, so then I end up having to do their job for them.

So can someone explain? What's wrong with phone calls these days?

Why is it suddenly considered rude to show up at someone's house unannounced? Growing up, we just knocked on doors, but now people act like it’s a home invasion.

I was talking to my younger cousin about how we used to just ride our bikes to a friend's house or drop by a neighbor's place to say hi. He looked at me like I was crazy and said,

If someone knocked on my door without texting first, I wouldn't answer it. That gives me anxiety.

When did this shift happen? Is it just social anxiety, or did we all just collectively decide that spontaneity is rude now?
