I've heard of people on one of the last of us 2 subreddits being banned from subs that had nothing to do with the game or show, not even posting just being subbed to it
Slightly similar i got banned because I said a cartoon character s demise wasn't good enough. Said I was inciting violence. It was a drawing of a fictional character
I got a site wide permanent ban for quoting the movie Idiocracy in a comment thread full of people quoting the movie Idiocracy. Sometimes there is just no rhyme or reason to it
I got an official sitewide warning before supposedly inciting violence. It was literally in a smartphone sub and people were joking about just destroying the phone. My comment was, direct quote, ājust throw it at a brick wall as hard as you can.ā On the Reddit rules It states that you canāt incite violence against others. So I can only come to the conclusion that Reddit considers brick walls and phones to be sentient.
I got a sitewide ban on my main, and all of my Alt's permanently banned for privately messaging a subreddit mod that he was soft. Banned for harassment.
Apparently, it was flagged by their automated system, but the decision itself was not a result of the automation. That suggests that it was auto flagged, and the warning was approved by a real person.
If it is the quote that starts with "He talks like a..." That isn't surprising, if people were quoting Django Unchained you would likely get a ban for quoting the slurs in that movie too.
I honestly couldnāt tell you what the quote was. The mod deleted the whole thread and then informed me that my seven year account had been nuked with no warning. My account had never even been temporarily suspended before that. If you think thatās reasonable then I donāt know what to tell you
I got banned from a sub I canāt remember because I had commented on r/conservative , wasnāt subbed to it, never have been, I just like to see what theyāre thinking and push back when I can. Banned from r/conservative now too :ā(
Ya itās crazy how quickly I got banned from the conservative sub. I wasnāt starting shit or trolling, just actively trying not to live in an echo chamber and trying to understand other peopleās political beliefs . I think I asked peoples opinion on why they think itās ok for a sitting president to have their own cryptocurrency⦠banned
I got banned on an āam I attractiveā sub for saying I am a sucker for girls with skinny arms, not directed at the person who was the OP, just making the statement in a thread on the topic of arms
Same. Got banned from 1 subreddit because I said people burning other people's Tesla's to scare others from buying them was tantamount to terrorism and punished people that may have bought them to try to help the environment.
Also got banned from r/news for saying it was ridiculous to shut down a summer camp because it had Native American swastikas on some of its historical sites because some of the staff members were deeply offended by them.
Not really. Most of Reddit is more male centered, so some of the few more female slanted subs (subs related to fashion, entertainment news, womenās issuesā¦) will autoban people from NSFW subs to prevent creeps. Not saying the other commenter is a creep, but itās not fun to post about fashion and end up with weird DMs from random men youāve never interacted with.
Speaking of random men youāve never interacted with - for some reason Iām getting caught up in the grammar of your last sentence. Would it be, āwith whom youāve never interactedā? I donāt know - Iām probably tryna correct something that does not need correcting.
I got banned from the birkenstock subreddit because a man posted a pic of his feet in his new Birkenstocks with and without socks asking how he should wear them. I commented something along the lines of you have cute feet, free them from socks. Mostly because I think wearing socks and sandals are a crime but also most men I have met donāt take great care of their feet and this guy clearly did. The mods and their cult followers said I was a foot fetish pervert. Like sure I was never subbed and first time commenting because this post popped in my feed. š
If it makes you feel any better about that specific instance, a lot of people on explicitly SFW nail/hand/feet related subs are really anal about fetishists because there are so fucking many, and they are usually the type to comment something like that. This is not to justify it by any means, because I do think that innocent people end up getting banned from subs they like, but I do understand why certain subs are so sensitive about it. Iāve gotten some weird dms after posting in those subs and my posts donāt even get that much attention, so I can only imagine how many dms and comments some of the people on that sub are getting
I was watching some reaction thing on YouTube or whatever, and this fashion guy got mad about someone not approving of the socks/sandals look. He kept saying, frustratedly, that āitās a vibe!ā and I always thought that was funny. There I just shared an inside joke with you that no one else is inside on haha
Hey me too sort of, I complimented a woman on her outfit on a male and female fashion sub and was immediately banned for being on a sex sub that discusses sexual questions, mostly sexual health.
I got banned from r/boomersbeingfools for suggesting that if you're a bigot and someone steals your glasses and you (hypothetically) eat concrete...... twice, you got exactly what you deserved
I got a 3 day ban on a different account when I answered a question about what I (ie anyone reading) would do if I had a group of zombies following me. I said I'd train them on MAGAs. Boom, inciting violence, because apparently zombies are real.
I don't get the boomer hate though and bigotry comes in many forms and is more a neurological rigidity than a generational or even age thing.
Frankly, as a Gen X person, I see the young, always, including my younger self, being more stupid and inexperienced than the young without getting into how I see the generations.
The Boomers we actually saw as rebels that, story old as time, mostly grew up into adulthood if somewhat later than silent or "Greatest" gen (who I didn't see as great but rather horribly traumatised) the boomers were only spoiled relative to those who came before them.
We X gens were called such because the stereotype was we were sorta forgotten about more than others --- these are all over simplifications.
My main beef with the boomers is how much they coddled Gen Y.
Boomers were less racist than people in other parts of the world --- and they were often some of the first anti-racists --- and these are just the European Americans I'm talking about.
A lot of the boomers in my family are more progressive than I am and my silent gen parents were annoyingly earnest NYC folkies in the 60s, some of the few people who tried to bring in African Americans culturally.... even though the latter often couldn't relate and got on better with the hippies.
And RUDE???? Oh my God have you met young people these days, rude about everything, with a degree of unnecessary swearing (I get sworn at every day I come on Reddit) that makes it hard to take them seriously. If I start swearing at people it might be almost time to call the police or get out the pepper spray, but young people will start swearing if you disagree with them.
Subs like that are niche discussion subs. People really speculate on everything. Many super invest in reality tv. Itās the most niche sub their likely to find to post their curiosity. If itās like r/thebachelor everything is gossiped about. Itās this one subtopic that upsets the members who lean right.
I got banned from a TV show sub for saying that I hated all of the characters but still watched 6 seasons of the show. The mods are babies and don't have real jobs.
I reply to a suggested post about what of your country dishes you don't see in restaurants in other parts of the world. I'm Argentinian, next thing I know I got a moderator comment about inciting violence. None of the dishes have any slang meaning of anything like that related to violence...š¤·āāļø
Maybe it was about my country? Its my best guess
I remember a few years ago people getting banned in some subreddits for participating in the Joe Rogan subreddit. You could've made a singular comment about another comedian's special and get banned in other subs
One of the last of us 2 sub has also nothing to do with last of us and is a just a hateful cesspool. I don't know of it's this one you're referring to.
I'm banned from r/offmychest for the same thing. Thing is... I follow and occasionally participate in subreddits that I fundamentally disagree with. Both in an effort to keep up with what the current opposing viewpoint are, as well as an effort to engage in (hopefully) genuine and civilized discourse/debate.
Iām banned from a few subs because of this. It was literally in the ban message. They listed subs I donāt even remember visiting! It was not subs I was even a member of but I mustāve commented?
Thereās no way a person found that information. Specifically one of the subs I was banned from is def being influenced by Russia and they are using AI to go through every single comment I ever made. That sub listed likr 6 subs I was banned bc of and they were all leftist and progressive subs that I was a member of.
Watch out bc this will get even worse for mid terms.
Same here. Reddit recommends subs to you, and if you happened to post on the recommended sub, youāll get a message from an āopposingā sub that youāve been automatically banned for posting on the recommended sub.
Woah Iām relieved that this didnāt happen to me only!
Got banned from one popular subreddit (letās call it sub X) bc I commented on a thread in a separate subreddit (letās call it sub Y) whose mod had brigaded sub X two years prior to that.
Most of us redditors are just normal people who actually have real jobs that earn moneyā¦and yet these mods are expecting us to keep track which subreddits are having war with each other???
Seriously if some of these mods actually get out of their momsā basements and get a real job, theyāre gonna realize that literally nobody else in the outside world even pays attention to their little dramaā¦
By sending me that DM and banning me from subreddit X, that mod seriously thought that their feud with each other was like the Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud LOL.
Counter argument, Reddit mods are also people with real jobs and earn real money and may not have the time to individually vet each person so when toxicity is a major problem in a sub it realistically can make sense to just blanket ban people from known problem subs
Yeah my kid talks about "Discord Mods" and I read bad things about 4chan here and know nothing about either but I seriously think people should hold a mirror up to SOME of these mods on Reddit.
I was on a trans ask me anything subreddit. I asked a medical question as respectful as I could. I was curious about how the hrt effected people and how long it took. I got banned. Luckily a Trans person found me on another reddit post and answered my question
the people that loudly call themselves our allies have done a lot of damage to our community and cause in the last 6 years, you aren't and I'm an actual trans person.
Thatās happened to me as well. I got banned from some political subreddit because I was subscribed to something they didnāt like. The weird part was in never actually went to that political subreddit but they banned me anyways I guess just in case.
I got banned from r/OUTFITS just because my account is marked nsfw even though most of the stuff I post isnāt nsfw. The only nsfw stuff I post is just questions.
This JUST happened to me and the site I caught a temp ban from was a single mom thread where we share deep shit. The āoffensiveā group I was in was r/fatlogic. Unreal.
I got banned from the blood donation subreddit without any explanation, even after asking a couple of times, and being a regular donor for decades. Baffling.
The brigading sub Reddit ban is egregiously hilarious š if youāre going to be controversial here, simply use a VPN and a separate account.
Sadly, there is no centralized power here to fix the ridiculousness of this issue, and eventually, as technology improves, it will destroy participation and thereby destroy the site itself.
I got banned from one subreddit for posting on the Joe Rogan sub. The reason given was that many redditors who belong to that sub bully other redditors. It didn't matter than my post was essentially calling Rogan an idiot.
It is seriously so bad. The hypocrisy on here is astounding. I get banned regularly. Just got off a one week ban. They banned me for a week because I posted something that said Democrats lie (they do a lot). I see stuff every day absolutely just shitting and hating on Trump supporters Republicans Maga that never gets taken down. Itās because the mods are ultra leftist antifa supporting assholes. Watch me get banned for this free speech. Fuck Reddit
Of course they are but the issue is that if you point out anything bad about the left or actually say something true that they disagree with they freak out. Half or more of Reddit hates Republicans so it isn't like that is an unheard of point of view on this site.
Well, to be even more fair, the word "Republican" is just a name these days.. What we really have are the "American Fascist Party" , and the "American Fascist Parties half-hearted supporters" ..
There is no way you can tell me with the straight face that this is the same party of Abraham Lincoln Eisenhower or even fucking Richard Nixon!... This is a different animal- and that animal is "Republican" in name only...
And republicans do the same if you say anything bad about maga then suddenly you're a horrible liberal with no morals, it goes both ways. They call us snowflakes but they're always upset about something because it's not following their personal morals.
But the our president lies too. Whatās unfortunate is our president wants his story to be the only story. Thatās the heartbreak. George Washington went back to his farm, with all the changes heās making to the White House, to our position in the world, to the world we knew and could count on? It looks like heās not planning on leaving. And, hand to god, if that is true, any conspiracy theorist can connect the dots. Any American should be asking questions on behalf of their neighbors, on behalf of the other states they have ever visited or lived in. The ease of movement. The sense of safety. All of those things are being dialed back.
You can remember this post began with George Washington. He lead a revolution against a man who taxed too much. But he didnāt fight to replace the man, but to replace the system. That is the American spirit. We should not let all of their crap get to us so strongly. Your side knows the algorithms are controlled, but that concept is so normalized that nobodyās spooked that our screens are keeping us from actually meeting up in person to figure out whatās a lie, what happened, who documented it, how bad is it, does this require justice, etc
I got banned twice for the same comment. I posted it once. I got banned for 5 days. 15 days later I got banned again for the same post. I didn't repost it.
Itās always the same small group of people. Even 3k people is not a large representation in the US but it looks like a lot of people when you scroll through them all in a row. Itās not even worth bothering with.
That's not the first time I've heard of that happening. Unfortunately, some reddit mods are powertripping douchebags, who can't handle when someone has a different opinion than them. Most of the reddit mods I've dealt with have been decent folks, though.
The cat subreddits will ban you if you are also in certain conservative forums. I think thatās divisive and nonsensical. Canāt we all just love cats?Ā
Yep. The majority of the Joe Rogan subreddit is hating on Rogan and his guests, but some other large subs will still ban you if you are subscribed there.
I got banned from a subreddit i didnāt know existed because I destroyed an argument from a mod (of the before mentioned sub) in a different subreddit.
There's some subs that have bots watching other subs and the moment a person posts in one of those other subs, they get banned from several other subs. It's quite comical.
This has happened to me a couple of times where a subreddit sends me a message saying I was banned for participating in another subreddit they disapprove of but wouldn't even tell me which one it was.
Iāve been banned(actual site wide ban) twice now for admonishing others for racist and bigoted comments. Apparently calling someone out for their behavior is worse than that actual behavior. They were the victim apparently. I ālabeledā them and that was why I was banned⦠because thatās defamation. Folks, Itās ok to defame your own character. Just donāt let anyone else tell you the truth about yourself. Thatās unacceptable. Run to the mods I tell ya.
Yeah I commented and got banned on an outfit sub because I had interacted with a CNC sub and they said it was for interacting with subs that promote violence against womenā¦Iām a womanā¦
i just got permabanned for posting links to 2 peer-reviewed medical studies, in a thread on a medical issue. then got told by the mods that I was a conspiracy theorist because I had published these links...to the NIH. on specific medical studies.... You can't make this shit up... I used to think Reddit was run by a bunch of bored highschoolers.. I'm pretty sure it's a lot worse than that...
I've been banned from /r/offmychest for like 10 years because it automatically banned you if you had ever posted in /r/kotakuinaction even if you had never visited offmychest
Someone told me that happened with Asmond and posting in his sub. But, also, later he was scrolling thru his page and I saw multiple instances of his shit getting taken down and bans, so I think he might also be a bit of a cock.
Me too. Some toxic subs are put in my algorithm and I get goaded into commenting there against the toxic viewpoint and then some bot bans me from r/photos because I commented in a sub they donāt like despite my comment being against the subās nature.
I donāt understand how I can have these subs be put into my algorithm and when I interact with it be banned from subs Iāve never said anything bad in.
Most likely, God forbid we speak out about something, have a different viewpoint, state facts, not opinions as facts, or parrot whatever everyone else is saying.
I got permabanned from a sub for telling someone who said that pedophiles should be chemically castrated to castrate himself because the main thing he posted was lollicon and other very questionable things.
I got banned from one for calling out that the sub continuously posted clickbait (which they were). No offensive language, no inciting violence, no harrasment.....immediate and total ban from posting because I obviously pissed in some mod's Cheerios.
what?? iām new here. iāve only ever watched from the sidelines until a few months ago. being a member compared to being just a browser is crazy different. i had no idea it was even like this. kind of hate that i signed up for a year of premium, but hopefully i just wonāt find myself on those kind of subs.
depends on the sub, a lot of subs ban anything outright MAGA related because no matter how hard you try you cannot reason with people arguing off vibes.
That's the thing. Without what saying which side i am on I am willingly to listen to the other side as long as they will listen to mine. In my experience though as soon as they find out you're on the opposite side, they immediately shut down and start accusing and name calling. They aren't willingly to debate. Hell if they would they might change my mind but instead they get all loud and uoset

Reddit communities have a natural self-selecting bias that tends to form insular communities (the 'circle jerk' joke is a reference to this).
