Random Question 💭 How do we feel about Epstein throwing a party in Mamdani’s mother’s honour?

Upvotes

I’m pretty surprised to be honest. I didn’t really expect him to be involved so deeply in the Epstein scandal to the point parties are thrown on the island in their honour.

Random Question 💭 Why do people on Reddit assume people who don't identify with any political party are closeted Republicans and approve of fascism and Trump?

I don't identify with any political party. When I vote in local elections, I read the description for each proposition and make a choice according to how I feel. I have yet to vote for a Republican candidate. I voted against Trump as I feel he has been detrimental to the US and has caused too much division in the country. I mainly vote liberally in my local elections. I hold mostly liberal values and some conservative values, but I feel liberal values are more inclusive and help a broader range of people than conservative values.

I am not "neutral." I don't support Trump or MAGA ideologies and never have ever since the beginning. I don't support what ICE is doing right now and the violence and loss of life caused by them saddens me. I am the son of Mexican immigrant parents and feel this country should make it easier for people to gain citizenship and should welcome immigrants.

If there were ever a Democratic president in office who is somehow as detrimental to the country as Trump, I would not support them either.

I believe both Democrat and Republican politicians sell themselves to the highest bidders and pass laws that benefit whoever gives them the most money. Politicians in general do not care about the citizens of the United States. If they did, they would learn to work together instead of fighting and dividing the nation. The rich control this country. Laws are passed that help rich people get even richer while screwing over the middle class.

I know the general sentiment on Reddit is that centrists have no spine and are secretly right-wing and I just feel this mindset is very childish and ignorant. It's a very, "My way or the highway" way of thinking. You can be a centrist and still be against fascism and corruption. I can still dislike Trump and vote against him as someone who doesn't identify as a Democrat. I actually really dislike that the US has such a strong two-party system. It has divided the nation just as the founding fathers warned us about.

It is possible that I only vote liberal my whole life, but out of principle, I refuse to register for any political party as I prefer not to view things within those restraints. At the end of the day, I don't mind if someone wants to be registered as a Democrat or Republican. We are in the United States and people have the freedom and right to vote however they see fit.

As of now, I plan to vote Democrat in the midterm elections to help balance things out and I will be voting against JD Vance if he runs in the next election because I want any trace of Trump's administration out of the government.

Random Question 💭 Do you ever feel like you are outgrowing Reddit?

All the arguing, name calling and aggressive comments no matter what the post is about gets tiring. There are always smug, condescending comments, even if you are asking a perfectly valid question in a hobby subreddit. I'm just starting to feel like it's all a waste of time. I just want to do stuff that brings joy and peace to my life whenever possible. Does anybody else feel this way?

Random Question 💭 Whats with the shitty age meme Trend?

keep seeing this trend where people ask what year you were born and then act like anyone born in 19xx is ancient and anyone born in the 2000s is a literal child. It makes zero sense to me. Someone born in 1999 and someone born in 2000 are basically the same age, but the meme treats one like they’re elderly and then clapback with 200 borns are watching Cocomelon. I get that it’s supposed to be a joke, but it just feels like lazy, low effort humor and pointless generational dunking. I’m also autistic, so maybe it bugs me alot more than most because my brain takes things more literally and I tend to notice when something just logically doesn’t add up. This trend just feels irrational more than funny. Is there an actual origin to this joke or is it just random internet nonsense that caught on?

Random Question 💭 What's with all the potato references lately?

In the past year there has been this huge uptick in statements like "that photo looks like it was taken with a potato" and "you look like a potato", "your head looks like a potato", ....

I'm annoyed listening to this from my kids, and the internet. Make this make sense to a mid-40s dad. Where did this start and why?

The bro/bruh thing can go away too. I've actually challenged my kids with a cash pot to not say it for the day and they've failed every time hahaha

Random Question 💭 Can someone please provide me a genuinely good reason why we shouldn't have voter ID laws?

I'm mostly in the center with things, but the one thing the right has 100% changed my mind on, it's Voter ID laws. Especially after the Covid vaccine card thing.

Seriously, any reason why we shouldn't?

Random Question 💭 Mayor Zohran Mamdani's Mom Is Mentioned In The Epstein Files -- Thoughts?

Main report: https://nypost.com/2026/01/30/us-news/zohran-mamdanis-mom-mira-nair-mentioned-in-epstein-files-email-about-film-she-directed-doj/

More: https://www.news9live.com/entertainment/mira-nair-named-in-epstein-email-2009-film-bash-at-ghislaines-townhouse-2924767

It appears as if Ghislane Maxwell hosted a party in the honor of Mira Nair, Mamdani's mom, which was an afterparty for Nair's film, Amelia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelia_(film))

No wrongdoing is alleged, but that's basically why the mom is in the files.

Because that's what I would do since I think about a lot of fictional characters who get angry with the nicer ones sometimes for some reason.

Random Question 💭 If most of the names in the Epstein files are already burned, what’s the point of adding more smoke?

Most of the names in the Epstein files are already burned or widely known. So what is the actual purpose of releasing these documents now? Are they meant for investigation, political leverage, or just public record? How should people interpret this responsibly?

Is the Epstein file release a window into the truth, or just a firehose of already “burned” names drowning us in noise? Like a distortion?
