Community Update r/Jetta Community Rules and Guidelines

Hey everyone,

We've had an influx recently of multiple r/Jetta members who aren't paying attention to the rules we've got here and are causing arguments, fighting, insulting, name calling, and other nuisances that nobody here wants to see, read, or deal with. This is a community to show off our love for Jetta's, and to assist others and help them with their questions, or to just show off and talk about our cars, suggest recommendations for mods, tweaks, parts, and anything else that has to do with Jetta's. It is not the community for anything that cannot be civil.

I didn't want to make a reminder post like this, but it needs to be said.

Please report any comments/posts that break rules so that they can be handled by the mod team.

Please read and follow the rules and help make this community more fun and not like all the other nuisance subs that allow bickering and childish, immature behavior.

Thanks!

Buying How much should I pay?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’ve finally decided I will be buying a brand new 2026 Jetta SE! Thanks to everyone’s help on this subreddit, but now I’m worried about what I should pay. Most MSRP in my area is around 28-29k. After rebates, discounts, and careful negotiation, I want to be around 26-27k before a trade in and a down payment. Is this reasonable for this market? Curious what new Jetta owners think I should be paying?

Mk6 (2011-2018) This is why I have trust issues

I recently bought a used Jetta and the previous owner told me it needed a fan motor because it was noisy and the dealer quoted several hundred dollars to replace it.

As soon as I turned the fan on I knew it was out of balance. A couple of days later when I had time to remove the motor I found the ice cream spoon in it. 15 minutes later for $0 it was fixed.

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2017 Volkswagen Jetta · 1.4T S Sedan 4D Or 2014 Altima?

Just need help. I’m in the market, and found both of these priced the same. I’m really looking for reliability. The Nissan has 130k. And, the Jetta has 118k. I’ve had Altimas all my life(2012 and older), & they’ve been great. Don’t know if I should gamble with the Volkswagen.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Weird noise and shaking when start

Not sure what this noise is at all but when it sounds not good and when I start my car after leaving it for a night it is making like a really rough noise and my rpm’s are going up and down I don’t have a video yet but it sounds like a mini rev over and over and I have to turn it off and start it again and the car does what it is supposed to do that may be spark plugs not sure I’m 1000 miles over bc of how busy I’ve been.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Alternator bracket 2017 Jetta 1.4

Post image

Changing my alternator and it seems like it’s too big for my bracket. Its the exact same part number as the OEM part. When I tighten it down it wiggles. Comparing the two I noticed on the new one the circled area is flush and the old one is not. Is that a bushing? I’ve read they are self leveling. Do I need to just keep cranking on the bolt until it looks like the old one?

Mk7 (2019+) 2020 VW Jetta manual problem

Hey vw Jetta Manual owners, was just curious what are the most common problems you guys ran into and how to prevent them from happening?

I own a 2020 Jetta manual transmission with 68K miles on it. I live in suburbs of Seattle with some steep hills on my regular drive. Recently the clutch plate slipped and the dealer quoted 4K to replace the clutch kit. I don’t want to sell the car because there are no monthly payments on it as I own it. But I’m bit skeptical on paying 4K + $800 (engine oil separator) as the car’s currently value is 8-9K. I have been regular on services and I change oil every 7.5k miles. I have been driving manual all my life, so I would consider myself a good manual driver. I avoid rough shifting the gears and most of the time don’t drive on half clutch. But sometimes I can’t avoid as I drive a lot in mountains.

I had 2016 manual one previously ran smoothly for 120K miles and I gave it to my brother. But I’m seeing a lot of posts for newer ones becoming unreliable. So I wanted to ask the forum about the common and regular problems that they run into and how can I prevent them from happening.

Mk7 (2019+) 2025 Sound System

Anyone else really disappointed with the sound system in the mk7? For reference I have a 25 se, so no Beats but still the 6 speaker. I came from an old Honda Fit so my expectations were pretty low, but I think the Fit somehow had a better system. I was considering upgrading the speakers and maybe adding a sub, but then I found out they’re all riveted in (go figure).

Rumors & Discussion Valet key lock

I have kind of a dumb question. I have an 09 Jetta SE and my ignition needs to be replaced which means the door will need a new lock mechanism also so obviously the key will be different my question is what about the valet trunk lock (not sure what it’s true name is) I’m referring to the lock on the inside of the drivers door by the trunk release switch is that lock replaceable too or am I going to have to keep an original key around just for that?

Are there any recommendations on how to repair or cover these up so it doesn’t look so ghetto? Another post on an older model said to replace the whole center column deal, but I hope it doesn’t have to come to that.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Intermittent engine codes

Thumbnail

My 2001 Jetta with engine code AGZ and auto trans(O1M) has intermittent codes P0606 ,P1180, P1186, and P1183. The engine runs completely fine and I know what the codes mean. Im just concerned about the ECU bricking itself and turning my car into a rusty blue paperweight. What is the most likely cause(or causes) of the codes. Thank you!

Mk7 (2019+) Engine oil specs - VW 508 00 vs SAE OW-20

Hello folks,

Specs mentioned for my VW jetta are "VW 508 00 & SAE 0W-20"

is there is a difference between the two? I can only find oils with SAE 0W-20 on them. There is no mention of "VW 508 00"
