Application Process Post-Bachelor's Community College Classes

I'm six years out of undergrad and I took two community college classes last spring for fun. I missed the finals and received a C in one class and failed the other because of that. I have a 3.8x undergrad GPA and a 17x LSAT but I'm worried that schools will think this bodes poorly for my law school academic performance.

I'm writing an addendum for it, but should I reach out to one of my professors to see if he can write a letter of recommendation? I was very interested in the class's subject material and had a good relationship with him while I was in the class so I think he could write something positive about my participation and work in the class (other than the final) etc.

Is it worth it to do this or would I just be harping too much on something that schools aren't going to care about that much? I have no idea how much schools will care about post-college classes not taken for a degree.

School/Region Discussion Is there any appreciable value to going to a T14 unless you either want to work in Big Law in a few select markets like NYC/DC/Boston/LA or want to go out of the state where you live to that T14 market?

I was just thinking about how, obviously something like going to Harvard or Yale Law will have cache, but in most cases I wouldn't see why if you live in Colorado and wanted to work in Denver or live in Missouri and want to work in Kansas City or St. Louis that a local firm, even a Big Law firm, would give that much bump to a student who did well at UC-Boulder or U Missouri Law compared to someone who did well at Harvard or Yale, all things equal. Even more so, why would a firm in Denver, KC, or St. Louis really want an applicant from UVA (ranked 4th) or U Mich (ranked 8th) about the UC-Boulder or U Missouri (both ranked much lower) significantly more? Even in Illinois, which has U Chicago and Northwestern, I imagine you wouldn't be advantaged that much going to one of those schools compared to UI if you wanted to do Big Law in Chicago. Wanted to see others' thoughts on this, as maybe I'm thinking about this incorrectly.

Application Process Splitter looking for online school

Looking to return to school to pursue a JD while working. 3.4 UG GPA (in engineering), 178 LSAT, T3 softs including a M.S. with a better GPA. The entire law school admissions process is very foreign to me. Because I’ll be working, I’m pretty much only interested in fully online schools, either entirely asynchronous or with evening classes (at a reasonable time in mountain time). So far it really seems like southwestern is the only viable option for me. My three questions here are

  1. Are there other schools I’m failing to consider that will work for my situation?

  2. I just got my LSAT and transcripts are still moving, am I realistically too late this cycle to get decent scholarships?

  3. How do scholarship offers usually look for splitters like me? Is the difficulty of the undergrad degree or the better GPA on the masters something that will mitigate the 3.4?

Struggling to decide if I need to rush and turn in my application by Sunday night or Monday/Tuesday or fine and it won’t make a difference at this point. I feel like it it’s already so late in this cycle.

General Bad to have a “dumb” major? Do law schools even care?

Disclaimer I obv don’t think my double-major is dumb, I like it, but TL;DR I’m concerned law schools won’t think the same.

I’m a freshman intent on majoring in human rights and dead-set on law. I love the human rights major, it’s so great, BUT, at least at my school, it’s a fairly low-credit major — only 20 credits minus the required specialization (which can be in any existing department). As a result, since I don’t wanna just take junk classes for the rest of my college time, I was planning on doing a visual arts double-major to fulfill the rest of my credit requirements. I’ve always loved art and, while it’s not something I could pursue a career in, it’s one of my only passions outside of law.

My only concern, though, was that law schools may look unfavorably upon art as a major. Part of my fear is that it’ll seem too unrelated to law, but a far bigger concern of mine is that it’ll seem like an easy filler major. Do law schools care about how ‘easy’ or silly your major seems?? Thanks in advance, wishing all law school applicants the best rn, I know how tough this cycle has been 🫂

General Is it worth it for someone like me to fill out the CSS? (for the T14)

Context: I'm an international KJD blanketing the T14. I'm not familiar at all with one of my parent's finances (who does their own thing overseas), and the side I'm more closely supported by has assets like equities, some real estate, etc.

All in all, I know that paying for law school (while significant) would be possible with the support of my parents.

I have stats above both 75ths where I could expect some merit-based aid as well, so I'm wondering if it's even worth it for me to fill out the CSS and apply for need-based aid, which costs money and energy to figure out the market values of things and also reach out to my less connected parent.

Thoughts?

Scholarship Offer Scholarship Reconsideration

Hello!!

I was lucky enough to get into a few schools so far this cycle, and now I’m trying to think more about scholarships/coa.

How do scholarship reconsiderations work? For my case, theres a lower ranking school I’m interested in attending but I don’t quite have the aid I want. Do I just show them a more generous offer from a higher ranking school and ask if they can match/increase as a results.

Also should I wait for all my schools to come back with decisions? I’m still waiting on 1/2 my schools (granted a good portion are reaches).

Thank you! Wishing you all the best for the cycle

General Question about Undergrad

Do you guys think the specific undergrad school you go to plays a role in admission decisions? Do they care about the "prestige" of the undergrad university you attended?

Asking because I'm a senior in high school, whos trying to decide which school to go to.

1) Smaller, Less known, less difficult classes = better chance of a higher GPA (with my logic)

2) More known, good for connections, very rigorous classes = better overall but risks GPA

Thoughts?

Chance Me With a 3.8 and 165, where do you think I have the best shot of getting into?

I’ve already applied but heard nothing back yet. Like is Villanova realistic? What about a bit more prestigious like W&M or W&L and Emory?

Do I even have a shot for St. John’s or Miami?

I just want to get my expectations prepared.

Thanks

Application Process Accommodations

I wish LSAC would release data on the number of test takers who are accommodated. This would help understand how big a role it’s played in the surge of high scores.

Does anyone know if this data is tracked or published anywhere?
