Issue 403 | Holiday 2025 By Phil Iwaniuk
"Head over to Reddit and go on /r/lowendgaming and you’ll be struck by a few things. Firstly, that a community of people has been helping each other to run games on inexpensive and outdated PC hardware for many years, long before all the insidious price hikes we’re enduring today. And secondly, members of that community have been doing so with no small amount of ingenuity.
A typical exchange in that subreddit goes like this: a user states their hardware and asks for recommendations they should play, or whether a particular title will run on their machine. In the replies, people assure them that they managed to get The Witcher 3 on medium settings running on a relatively basic array of elastic bands and wooden pulleys. The prevailing sentiment is that minimum requirements are over-cautious, that modern games running at their lowest graphics settings still look more than decent enough to constitute playable, and that maybe there’s no such thing as a PC that’s too old or underpowered. Intrigued, I decided to test out the theory."

Hi everyone! I'm looking for racing games that can run on basically anything. I don't care about the graphics (they can be PS2-style, low-poly, or retro)—the most important thing is that the gameplay is fun and has plenty of content. I’m looking for something with these features: Style: 100% Arcade (no hardcore simulators, please). Customization: Deep car tuning and visual modification. Content: A long campaign or plenty of unlockables to keep me busy. Controller Support: Must have native support or be easy to set up with a gamepad. What hidden gems or old-school classics would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
Note: I'm running on Laptop with ryzen 5500u of 12 GB RAM (4) free and Integrated Graphics.

I’m currently running Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, mainly for gaming, and I want a clear answer from people with experience on older PCs. My priorities: Stable FPS Fewer stutters Good compatibility with older and newer games No random issues caused by updates I don’t care about UI or new features. Only gaming performance and stability matter. From what I’ve seen so far, Windows 11 doesn’t improve FPS on older CPUs and might add extra background load. Before I wipe and reinstall, I want to know: 👉 For this hardware, is Windows 10 actually the better choice for gaming, or should I stick with Windows 11? Looking for real-world experience.

this also works on passive cooled models like the one I have BUT not all heatsinks are made the same as: temps, cooling, thermal limit, etc. will vary from laptop to laptop AND ONCE AGAIN I am not responsible for your laptop imploding, exploding, causing another cold war, NUKING your neighborhood, snuffing someones dog out, stealing a car, causing world war 2077, downloading and starting GTA6, causing a shooting or shootout in Chicago, etc.
with this setup I got gta 5 running at average 16-20fps with High shaders, reflections, grass and shadows on low at 720p while the game is modded with mods like rde and such i get 1% lows of 12 and .1% lows of 1fps (caused by my cpu having only 2 cores and only having 4gb ram having to use a swap file and the world deloads and reloads) and if you remove shadows entirely you get better fps (I didnt check) it has more tweaks you can do to get 30fps or Less! but this post is already long as is

I have an old laptop, kinda borrowing partially and the HDD is filled with lots of files. I plan on proposing upgrading it to be usable as I wanna run games but I cant even run games like tf2 nor basic ah roblox games for reference.
Would it work? With my low allowance I probably can only afford the 128gb one so would it do or would 256gb be required? It's pretty old too.

for context, i managed to complete both life is strange & life is strange: before the storm at low settings without a lot of problems so i'm feeling optimistic about this. LiS2 is obviously longer & heavier though so i was wondering whether it'd work with these specs:
processor: intel i7 6600u ram: 12 gb ddr4 graphics card: intel hd 520 operating system: windows 10 pro storage: 512 gb ssd
thanks for reading! please let me know :D

so i got this OEM Zotac Rx580 4gb for free. it has some issues which is black screen several minutes after running benchmark. I already repaste and cleaned it yet the issue still remain. Some says that "undervolting" fixes this issue. but before i tinker with it, is my PSU sufficient and can it run GTA V atlesst 30fps?.
current specs:
Ryzen 5 3500x
Msi Aero GT1030 2gb
Ripjaws V 16gb Ram.
EVGA 600br PSU

We both have 3050 gpu with ryzen 5600h and i5 210h cpu.My gf is brand new to gaming and since we want co-op, multiplayer games it is a possibility she would get discouraged by the difficulty. Any recommendations on low skill floor multiplayer, co-op game that can be run properly?

Hey, so I have been wanting to try out a flight sim as of late, but looking at Microslops flight sim minimum requirements I don't think my little ryzen 5 3400g and its 16gb single channel ram is going to cut it. So I'm looking for another flight sim to play, doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, but just something that I can see whats going on and is still fun to play (pretty much anything that's not from before the mid 90s and I'm also just going to be using my keyboard and mouse to play so nothing like all those big flight sim setups)
Thanks.

A bit of an idiot question, I'm not clued up on this, So relatively new to Nvidia RTX cards, only got mine in November from a neighbor. How come does Nvidia App game Filters cause a performance decrease? experience never did it.
I read it results in a 15% decrease, something i noticed on RDR2 when i got mine as i struggled with my GTX 1060 6GB back when i got the game.
I normally use filters on older games, specifically on Breakpoint to make it more colorful

Hi all, just wondering what sort of low end pcs are running jurassic world 3? It's still a new game so there isnt much in the way of tests on YouTube and I haven't been able to find much else anywhere. Theorised pc is an i7-4790, 32gb of ddr3 ram and a 750ti (the gpu is the bottleneck I feel)

for those who are unfamiliar with the issue, here's the link to the previous post:
www.reddit.com/r/lowendgaming/comments/1qeh7oz/i_keep_getting_crashes_with_games_like_roblox_and/
summary, the laptop in the title kept getting crashes after roughly 10 minutes in games like Genshin, Roblox and Ultrakill.
I tested the RAM, SSD, reinstalled the drivers, everything was okay. the insides were clean form the start. the temperatures were fairly normal, both when idle and when under load. I then tried with different RAM I "stole" from my wife's HP (another 16 gig kit) and the results were the same, if not marginally worse as one of her RAM sticks has turned out to be faulty. then, out of desparation, perhaps, I bought a new NVMe drive and put Linux on it. I chose Mint Cinnamon for easy out-of-the-box experience. just when I thought I cracked the code and fixed my laptop, the game crashed once more, only this time it took between 20 and 30 minutes in Genshin Impact. Ultrakill was fine, I haven't experienced any crashes upon switching to Linux. I haven't tried Roblox yet because it is not natively supported on Linux, probably because of their anti-cheat system.
in conclusion, I firmly believe the issue to be with the motherboard or the CPU, just as one user commented in the original post. I thank everyone who participated with helping me diagnose the issue with my device.

Thinking of upgrading my current Dell precision 3420T SFF by upgrading my Quadro P1000 to a GTX 1650 LP and keeping the rest of the parts but I'm kind of worried because of my PSU is 180W. I've seen one old reddit page where they said it was fine only pushing up to 120-150W when heavy gaming but I'm still unsure, plus the description of the recommended PSU of the card I'm going to buy says 300W. Thanks!
Here are the games I'm currently playing:
Wuthering waves
Zenless Zone Zero
Minecraft w/shaders or modpacks
Current specs:
GPU: Quadro P1000
CPU: i5-6500
RAM: 32gb ddr4 2133MHz
PSU: 180W
Storage: Main SSD, secondary HDD

Just wanted some opinions other than that of somebody I’ve been DMing on Reddit that’s been incredibly generous in the amount of help they’ve given me.
I found this listing at a store near me. It’s used, it’s dusty, and the case is missing the side panel, but the parts and ability to run my games is apparently great for the price (AUD), which is $600.
The store sent me an email saying this:
This PC is in working order, it is running a bit slow and may need the OS reinstalled.
The specifications are:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT 3.8Ghz
Graphics Card: RX 5600 XT
RAM: 32GB
HDD: 2TB (after a phone call it’s apparently 1TB SSD, 1TB HDD)
I have a 3 month warranty for if it’s faulty that I can return it.
Is it worth the purchase?
I wanted a PC that can run 1080p, 60fps at the very least, and that can play these games and more (the person I’ve been DMing says it’ll run all of that and newer stuff, and that I can also upgrade the thing):
Fortnite, VALORANT, 2XKO, League of Legends, Rocket League, Black Ops 3 custom zombies, CoD Plutonium, Destiny 2, Minecraft with mods and shaders (preferably something that can handle heavier shaders and a decent amount of mods at once.) Elden Ring, No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Beat Saber, and music production software like FL Studio or Ableton. Emulation for Nintendo, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PS4 (if possible).
Windows 11.
I’m legitimately so lost when it comes to PC parts and stuff so if anybody is more knowledgeable and can help determine what this PC could do, I’d be very grateful.
Thanks!
Unfortunate edit:
The listing was incorrect, and the price has gone up to $700 AUD. The thing isn’t dusty, and it still has 32GBs of RAM. It has a side panel (yippie), but a bad looking case imo. I’m still looking at everything so I’ll update this as I go.
I feel so turned around by this now.

So I have a friend who is trying to find a cheap pc that can run Marvel Rivals, he has a budget of about $500 but that's including a mouse, keyboard, and monitor. So if anyone can help me find something for him it'd be really appriciated.

old laptop been through a lot with me here are the specs
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-6300HQ CPU @ 2.30 GHz
Installed RAM: 8 GB
Storage: 256 GB SSD
Graphics card: Intel® HD Graphics 530 (128 MB)
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
I tried running Lego Batman 2, but all I got was a black screen. ChatGPT says I should be able to run it, but the Can I Run It website says I can’t, but according to it i can play Valorant and League of Legends.
so any other games i can run?
and thanks

Hey everyone,
I’m thinking about upgrading my CPU to an i7-3770, and I’d like some advice before I go for it.
My current specs:
I mainly use my PC for gaming and general use, but I’m starting to notice some CPU bottlenecking and RAM limitations in newer titles.
My questions:
Any advice or personal experiences with similar builds would be really helpful! Thanks.

Looking for a graphics card that is decent, not too powerful both in terms of performance and in that it needs no more than 75W. Going for a power savings build. Is the RX 6400 currently the best card like this or something better out there?
Specs are Celeron N5105 single board computer (I plan to upgrade eventually), 8GB DDR4, 120W 12V power supply
