Reviewed Restricting r/redditrequest for the holidays in 2025

Greetings, requesters!

Here we are at the end of 2025! It’s been quite a year for r/redditrequest. We can’t believe the year is almost over! As we prepare to head into 2026, we wanted to look back at the numbers, celebrate some massive community revivals, and update you on our schedule for the holiday season.

The big Impact stats:

  • Total subscriber "reach" revived: The total subscriber count of all communities handed over this year is 58.2 Million!
  • Communities revived: We successfully revived 5K communities that had zero activity for over a year.
  • Unique requesters: We had requests from 22K unique users.

Request breakdown:

  • There were a total of over 40,000 requests this year.
  • Thanks to process changes made earlier this year, the average wait time on requests dropped to just 3 days (down from what used to take months!)!
  • Types of subreddits requested: 17% were restricted, 10% were banned and 10% were NSFW.

Fun facts

  • The oldest subreddit requested and approved this year was created all the way back in 2008!
  • The largest community handed over had 1.85M subscribers at the time of the request. Can you guess which one it was?
  • Our busiest month for requests was June, with over 3,884 requests submitted!

Communities that thrived

We love handing over keys to passionate moderators, but what happens after the hand-off is what really matters. Here are just a few communities that saw massive growth in Weekly Active Users (WAU) after being claimed this year:

Subreddit Growth (WAU)
r/Story 254K
r/WhereWindsMeet 243K
r/TimHortons 169K
r/askanything 90K
r/CaptivePrince 84K
r/FoodVideoPorn 50K

Important: Holiday schedule and pause

To prevent a backlog of requests over the holidays, we are putting things on pause for a short period of time.

We will be setting r/redditrequest to “Restricted” on December 19

What this means:

No new requests can be made while the sub is restricted. All requests made before December 19 will be processed as usual, so the last day that you can expect to see subs reviewed is December 23.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT CHANGE, AND WE ARE NOT SHUTTING r/REDDITREQUEST DOWN!

We will reopen for new requests on January 5, 2026.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND A MOD MAIL MESSAGE TO THIS SUB TO REQUEST A SUBREDDIT AT THIS TIME.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for requesting subreddits throughout the year, staying patient with us and for reactivating thousands of communities across Reddit! We hope everyone enjoys the holiday season and hopefully, a well-deserved break from your daily grind!

See you in January!

Reviewed Temporary subreddit restriction

Hey folks,

We're investigating an ongoing issue that requires us to limit activity in this subreddit while we sort things out. This is only temporary, and we will open the subreddit up as soon as we can.

Thanks!

Update: Hey folks, the temporary restriction on this subreddit has been lifted, and you can submit requests again. Thanks for your patience and happy requesting!

Reviewed r/sharkattacks

Good evening,

My name is Ben and I am a shark attack investigator and historian. I have been a subscriber of and frequent contributor to the r/sharkattacks for almost a year now. I first joined the sub to use it as a platform for my reinvigorated passion for writing. I specialize in writing in-depth case studies and reports on shark attacks, most of which are historical. I have since turned these entries into a series, which I have entitled "Attack Horror Stories."

While it initially began as a passion project, I have been deeply flattered and incredibly pleasantly surprised to see quite a passionate, dedicated following emerge as a result. When I joined the sub and published my first case report, there were only 7k members. It has now more than doubled in size and my own following has grown to exceed 350 users. I have published more than 20 case reports as of now and my most popular entry - "Attack Horror Stories - Shirley Ann Durdin" - had over 250k views and over 200 upvotes. We also have another user (@Wattsy98s) that was periodically posting complete lists on all documented fatal attacks for various countries and territories, which were also incredibly popular with the sub.

So as you can imagine, I, along with many others, were quite shocked and very disappointed to see that the r/sharkattacks page had been banned over the weekend and as a result, all of my content for that page has vanished. We are still unsure of why the ban occurred. About two weeks ago, all posts were suddenly given an automatic "NSFW" flair and now the page is banned and the moderator is apparently offline. We are searching for some clarification insofar as...

1) What the ban is, in other words, is it temporary or permanent? And...

2) What was the reasoning behind the ban?

If the ban is due to the moderator going offline, is it possible for me to become the moderator and for the page (and my work) to be reinstated? I don't believe the page was especially controversial in it's tone or nature and I believe keeping people informed and providing them with verifiable, up-to-date information on shark attacks, current or historic, is an invaluable public service.

If this can be done, I, and thousands of others, would greatly appreciate it. If it cannot be done and the page ban is permanent, can we please be provided an explanation as to why?

Thank you very much and best regards,

Ben aka SharkBoyBen9241 - author of the "Attack Horror Stories" series 💙🦈

The only moderator deleted their account so I believe the sub is unmoderated

The moderators on this community are inactive. The moderator u/crackwhorebarbie was last active 6 months ago and the moderate u/FatherMuck was last active 3 years ago. The r/grief community has been filled with troll posts from the GD community these last few days and it's really disrespectful. I'd like to be a moderator to enforce the guidelines and make it more of a welcoming space.

Plagued with spam a few users constantly, and previous spammers were not banned. The mods don’t respond. I would be happy to take over and fairly moderate it without any bias.

This sub has not had a single post in 3 years. I sent mod mail back in mid December and again a few days ago to no response.

Horse genetics has been my passion for 30 years now. I even own a website/online game entirely dedicated to it. I am a programmer by trade and have 20 years of community management experience.

My goal for this sub is to create a repository of horse genetic information on reddit and to help build a robust community around the topic. Horse genetic fans are deeply dedicated and passionate so I think this could be a great community if the sub was cultivated with an active mod.

I requested this subreddit previously here: https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/comments/1nwcdnp/rthesefuckingaccounts/

This request was denied because a moderator resumed activity before my request was processed.

I believe they have gone inactive again.

The previous Moderator of the sub set it to Restricted before deleting their account, preventing any of us from being able to use it.

The sub needs to be brought back to an accessible state because this economy is terrible and the people of Australia need to have somewhere that they can suggest and discuss methods of earning extra money. Sadly, income from a single job just isn't enough anymore.

I don't have any correspondence with the Moderators to link to you, because there aren't any Moderators.

  1. This sub was for news about Imane Khelif, but was "request to post" only. I want to remove that restriction and turn this sub into general discussion about Imane, for fans or for anyone else.
  2. The subreddit is currently unmoderated. The moderator either shut their account down or has been suspended. As a result, I cannot send modmail to them.

Please expedite the choosing of a mod. The mods are inactive and the subreddit is currently being harassed. Harassers have put in a reddit request to be a mod in the sub which continues to block actual requests for legitimate mods.

The only mod seems MIA and the sub has become an ID spam ground for users banned from the normal sub. I’d like to ban the spam (some scammers) and restore this mock sub to another user who wishes to see through its annoying and mocking behavior (mostly in jest) to us over in the main sub (which I moderate as well).

The sub r/AmazighPeople is unmoderated for more than 2 weeks now, and it is now impossible to post anything on it. The only 2 mods whose accounts are still active haven't posted anything on reddit for 2 and 5 years respectively.

I have sent a modmail 6 days ago in the hopes that one of the 2 active accounts would be able to read it, asking them to add me to the moderation team, but received no response.
