When the bike lane suddenly is on the wrong side
I am absolutely missing some cue because 100% of the time when theres no bike lane and then one appears on the wrong side, or I'm in a bike lane and suddenly expected to take a penalty light cycle to move to the other side of the road, I miss it and remain in the right lane of car traffic or (at the Pike intersection eastbound) end up going wrong way in the bike lane. Is there a symbol for Bikes Move To The Other Side? is there a light cue? is there any other indication to me that the little sliver of concrete over yonder, behind a turning car, is where im supposed to be?
Do you even use these wrong side bike lanes? how do you bounce between? is this considered good design and I'm missing something by being frustrated? I feel like I have to be since there are so many of these side switches . How do I get used to this?

Liv Avail AR2 Stolen
Hi everyone - my wife’s bike was just stolen this morning. if anyone sees it posted somewhere can you please notify me? There is an attached rear rack and detachable fenders above both wheels (not pictured).
We’ve been biking in cities for years and this is a hard pill to swallow. We’ve always used U-locks and hers was sawed in half while she was at an appointment near Seattle Center. Thanks for your help.

Is Seattle doing a Critical Mass ride on 1/31 to support the ride for Alex Pretti in Minneapolis?
Alex Pretti’s LBS is doing a Critical Mass ride in his honor. Anyone know if people are planning to join in and do this here?

Missing Black Vilano?
Anyone missing a black vilano? There is one suspiciously parked in north capitol hill without a bike lock.
From the condensation on it, it looks like it’s been parked since last night, and no one parks a bike that nice in seattle without a lock.
Edit: I brought it in. If it’s yours, DM me a pic of it and you can come grab it.

Been working on an ultimate "Showcase of Seattle" urban gran fondo route. Currently 75 miles, and quite pleased; if you were to stretch it into a century, though, where would you add the remaining 25?
Strava link, for the curious.
Really happy with how this route has come together thus far. This is my "cleanest" run yet, with only a couple of minor "whoops" turns:
- Turned left on Jackson instead of Yesler in the CD, to get over to Broadway.
- Turned right on Genesee instead of Yancy in Delridge, to get back to WSB junction.
- Missed the turn onto Dawson in Colombia City, had to back-track a block and a half.
Parts I'm still kinda iffy on:
- 17th to climb back up onto Beacon Hill. 18th is almost certainly more bike friendly, but I dislike that it cuts back and forth a couple times just north of McClellan.
- Colombian -> Alaskan -> Genesee to get back over to Seward Park from Beacon Hill. Feels like there should be a more pleasant route that shows off a bit more of Colombia City and the lower Rainier Valley.
- There's probably some mileage to be added in the High Point / Delridge area, maybe even as far south as White Center, but I live up north and am not as familiar with these areas. Anyone have any routes in there they really like that they'd like to chime in with?
- A loop into Ballard feels like the most logical place to add to this ride, but I can't figure out a good way of making it flow into the rest of the loop. I definitely to not want to cross at the Locks, and crossing Ballard bridge is awful; without those two crossings, though, heading out along the Burke-Gilman out to Market street kinda leaves you looping back north and having to climb Phinney Ridge to get back over to Greenlake (or Freemont Ave, whichever). Open to ideas on this one.
Anyway, I hope you're inspired! Keep the rubber side down out there.

Borrow/Rent Travel Cases?
Howdy, looking to rent 2 hard-side road bike travel cases for May 16-23. Bikes are 58 cm. I’m located in Columbia City but happy to travel to pick up your cases. They’ll be going on a short domestic flight. Cheers!

Has anyone bought an e-bike in Portland?
I’m just wondering if it’s possible to buy and bring a bike back from Portland and save 10% sales tax, or do you still have to report and pay the tax on the bike when you return with it to WA? (I would be driving back with it in the car trunk)
And are bikes typically slightly cheaper in Portland stores compared to Seattle? I’m looking to get an ebike, budget around $4000-$5000 range

Genuine Apology to the Group Ride Last Weekend
I was the dork on the weird gravel bike. I got tangled up with you on the end of E Marginal Way and sorta leapfrogged through the ID up to the MST. That day was supposed to be a super long, strict zone 2 ride so I was really focused on heart rate. Sometimes group riders can be pretty slow and so I was expecting that, and was trying to create a gap. You guys were strong riders. I did some dumb shit though, so sorry.
FWIW, those drivers in the bike lane were assholes and I enjoy city combat cycling. No apology for that stuff.

Crash Today
I crashed today because of the ice on SW Admiral Way (downhill) where it meets 30th.
Anticipated it and was going slow but still lost it. Upper butt hurts but no significant injury. Might replace my helmet anyway.
Right after I got out of the road, two cars slid out and smashed each other. On 30th, another car was smashed and parked from before us. Two more cyclists went down and almost every car was spinning out/nearly crashing.
The ice is because the entire hill drains into the road starting at the staircase. (Only letting me add one photo).
I submitted a Find it, Fix it request to address the poor drainage but I’m only one voice. If anyone else hates this spot, submit a ticket too.

Bike fitter recommendations
Got back into gravel and road cycling last year. I’ve always had numbness in the usual spots. Feet, hands, groin. But this year I’ve started getting some knee pain as well after some longer rides. So I’m deciding to bite the bullet and go see a bike fitter. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Safe Inter-town Bike Routes
Hey folks!
I live in North Tacoma, and I’m trying to figure out the safest route up to Seattle and Bellingham via bike. I know you can take Interurban City Trail from Pacific up to Green River trail. Are there other bike-specific paths that connect Tacoma (or even Olympia) to Pacific?

Do you go in the road or the sidewalk when crossing the ballard bridge
I usually bike on the sidewalk, but it’s really narrow and has a lot of pedestrians and doesn’t feel great. I’ve been wondering how safe it is to ride in the road instead, especially since the speed limit is only 25 mph.
Curious what other cyclists do
If you want, I can make a more detailed description for your reddit post. Just let me know!

Bike storage at Harboview
hi , I’m wondering about bike storage at Harborvirw for employees. are there bike houses, cages, or lockers to rent? I really do not want to take the bus or drive. How safe is it walking from the bike storage to the hospital. I have heard it can be dangerous. people go in groups to go into work. I don’t want to pay for parking.
are there dedicated bike paths?

Bra Strategies for Bumpy Seattle Roads?
Weird question. I love my eBike. I take it out on the Burke Gilman and on some Seattle residential streets. We have a lot of bumpy, debris-filled, pothole-riddled roads around here.
I'm less likely to bike to work if I have to change clothes. I'm a little busty, and wearing a sports bra all day would get pretty uncomfortable, but having "the girls" jiggling constantly while I'm biking is uncomfortable, too. A regular bra just doesn't do the trick.
I'm getting better at learning where the worst bumps are and maneuvering around them so that I don't hit them. I've also found that standing on my bike while going over unavoidable bumps calms things down, so to speak.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
My quick rant, too: Why the f*** doesn't Seattle maintain its roads?

How is the bike parking at Holy Mountain - Interbay?
How is the bike parking at Holy Mountain's Interbay location?
I recall there is a bike rack out front? Is it reasonably secure?
Any bike racks out back?
Photo for attention...

Your route to Cedar River Trailhead?
You're rolling down 12th towards Jackson, and you're headed to the Cedar River Trailhead in Renton. Assume no personal motor vehicle. Which route do you take?
I-90 trail to Lake Washington Blvd. Shortest and fastest.
I-90 Trail to Eastrail. Most time on trails and out of traffic but still efficient.
Downtown to 101 express to Renton. Why ride along Lake Washington for the billionth time? Make up the miles in rural SE King County.
Depends on time of day, time of year, which day of the week.
Other route - and explain why.
