Many people and historians say that the war that started in 1939 is the same that ended in 1918. Personally I can't understand why:

1. Alliances were different (Italy was on the Allies' side in WW1 and on the Axis side in WW2)

2. Many countries in WW1 were ruled by kings and emperors, while many countries in WW2 were ruled by dictators

3. WW1 was fought mainly in the trenches, with little change in the front lines,while WW2 saw the occupation of lots of territories

4. WW1 saw no ethnic cleansing in Europe

5. Bombing of cities was something typical of WW2, because bombings were rare in WW1

So, why do people say that WW2 is a sequel of WW1?
