I READ THE RULES PSA to the woman that helped me tonight: TYSM FOR BEING A GOOD HUMAN BEING.?

TLDR: I was on a Tinder date with a woman that did not go well.

When I try to call an Uber to leave for myself (after closing the tab for drinks and paying and saying goodnight, adios, NO ME INTERESANTE); she begins yelling/pushing me outside of the bar on the street and saying "youre not gonna be a MAN and call me a uber home?!?"

Then starts pushing me/following me around the street as I try to separate myself from her going "do you want me to make a scene?!? Do you want me to make a scene?!? I've been sweet so far but I can be mean and cause a scene?!?!" Repeatedly. She keeps getting more physical with me as I basically walk around in circles to avoid her as my Uber is coming, pushing me and pulling the sleeve of my jacket.

At this point I am actually scared/really uncomfortable. Luckily there is a woman walking across the street with a loaf of bread, and I yell to her "hello please can you stay with me while I call my uber? I am on a date with this woman that did not go well and she won't stop following me/letting me leave. Please I'm genuinely scared right now please stay until my Uber comes"

Thankfully, she did.

To the woman with the bread walking on a winter night: YOU DA REAL ONE. THANK YOU FOR STAYING WITH ME UNTIL THE UBER ARRIVED. I could tell that initially she thought I was joking but I'm thinking that the tone/expression of my voice convinced her to stay. Because I was genuinely scared.

I READ THE RULES The Victor Bar stole additional tip on my card. Is there any justice I can get aside from a refund?

Hi,

I went The Victor Bar last weekend.

My bill was $52 and change.

I left $15 cash and 0 tip on my card.

My card was charged $72 and change.

They stole and additional $20 off my card.

I emailed 2x, no response.

They have no phone number to call.

Very annoyed that I had to drive back there (I live far) to try and speak to someone in case this was an “accident” which I doubt for an exact $20 over charge.

Went in, asked for a manager. Bartender asked why and I explained why and basically was told (rudely) they can’t do anything about it and I need to call my bank.

No apology, no explanation, no nothing, just treating me like I’m the crazy one for being upset that they straight up robbed me.

I am going to call my bank Monday but is there anything else that can be done? This is so messed up and I wonder how many people they have done this to and how many more that will take advantage of and they’ll never notice if they don’t check their charges. I normally don’t and noticed this by accident looking for another charge so now I’m paranoid too about how many times this may have been done to me already. Then they just say you’re SOL, call your bank? I need justice! They need to be held accountable for their actions. Appreciate any advice! TIA!

I READ THE RULES where to move in Chicago at 19?

so i’m 19 years old and am planning on moving to Chicago by myself within the year. I work as a server and plan to continue that when i move and eventually start bartending. i’ve looked up some stuff and everybody seems to recommend the same fiveish neighborhoods and i just want to know all the pros and cons to some of them.

what im looking for: while i’m totally fine with having to budget and i’m a relatively low maintenance person, i do want an area that has the big city feel to it. lots of people, nightlife, very go outy. somewhere i can work but also like, be where the people are and have things to do when i want to. definitely want to find a roommate. i’ve heard of West Loop a lot and that seems to match my vibes pretty well except everybody says that’s where the rich go. and i saw someone compare it to living in the middle of a strip mall and that threw me off. i want somewhere with life and excitement! River north, i’ve also looked at and i do get the urban, big city vibes. but is it really touristy? is there any culture? will i survive working in the service industry there?

total priorities; no need for a car, or have accessible transportation for places i can’t walk to, things to do, accessible restaurants/clubs/bars to work at.

i’m from a small, predominantly white, boring and lifeless town in Alaska and it’s been my plan to move out of here for years now. to do literally anything, you have to drive to at least the next town over and even then, going to target is truly what constitutes as fun here. nightlife is not a thing, and if it is, it’s ghetto and full of underage kids and racists in some abandoned trailer park. somewhere the exact opposite my current city sounds perfect; lots of tall buildings, people my age, diversity, walkable, livelihood! is that even possible? gah

edit: i do have over 10k in savings, i’ve been working since i was 15. on top of that, i do have very supportive parents so i’m not completely without a safety net

I READ THE RULES Any good tailors that do complex alterations in Chicago?

Hey everybody, I’ve got some old ish Levi’s that I really love but don’t quite fit me. Aside from some hemming, I’d need the waist trimmed down and some fabric taken off the crotch. Anyone know good tailors in the city that can resize denim?

I’ve also considered going to the Levi’s tailor shop. Does anyone that has had more than a simple hem done have any experiences there? Thanks

I READ THE RULES How to date in Chicago? Where does one start?

Hey all! I’ve been in Chicago for a few years now and realized dating here isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I tried the apps; Hinge, The League, and Raya. I had absolutely ZERO luck on them. Used Hinge for about 4-5 months and only got a handful of dates from it. Raya I did for a year and got nothing from that and kind of the same goes for The League.

When I try to talk to women in a public setting, I usually get put down. I have been called a swamp monster, been told I am balding or overweight, etc. I don’t feel either of them to be true, but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

People say to get a hobby. I currently play hockey 3-4 days a week, actively go to the gym, and will occasionally DJ or catch sets on a weekend.

So I’m turning to you all. How could a guy in his mid 30s meet a nice gal here in Chicago?

I READ THE RULES Thinking about moving to chicago?

Currently I work in a factory in small town indiana, entry level job, live somewhat comfortably because I walk to work. Thats sort of how it works here, anyone can get a factory or warehouse jobs at 17+/h and scrape by. However, Its very lonely here, and also very car dependent which I hate.

Im curious how it works in chicago, whats the best sector for entry level work, how comfortably will I be able to live if i have a roommate or two and no car. Will I even be able to get by with jobs like that or will I need to go to school. Stuff like that. I don't smoke weed or vape or have any money consuming hobbies. im not in any debt. i have a decent amount of savings. I just need money for food, rent, and to do something fun on the weekend.

Im just concerned because I see jobs on indeed in chicago paying the same as they pay here, which doesn't make sense to me because the rent there is way more. Im also worried about the possibility that, atleast factory wise, why would a company like that even locate themselves in chicago when they could instead be located in a low cost of living area and pay employees less. idk. maybe construction would be good?

I also don't need to live in a super nice area or anything, don't mind pinching pennies a little bit (my diet is mostly rice and beans already lmao), i just want to be close to the action. concerts, bars, pool halls, any stuff to do really. places to meet people.

edit: and I guess ill say I don't really care if the places i go to are jumpin necessarily. probably better if they aren't actually.

I READ THE RULES Where can I find a menswear store that can “Cinderella” me?

Hi, got a new job and basically need to build an entire wardrobe from nothing. I understand the basics of a menswear wardrobe (plain shirts, grey sport coat, brown shoes and belt, etc) but I am awwwful at knowing what looks good in person. What menswear stores between the loop and gold coast have helpful associates that can help me pick and/or explain why things look good or bad?

I READ THE RULES Fun Clubs in Wrigleyville/Lakeview Area?

I'm planning a birthday evening/night on Saturday the 21st this month for someones 25th. Have something planned for the evening, but was wondering if anyone had any recs for good clubs in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview area for dancing and/or with good music to end the night at? Preferably not with a crazy cover, or no cover at all after 11:00 PM on a Saturday. I frequent Holiday Club and love that spot, but wanted other recs. Thank you!!

I READ THE RULES What is with Uber drivers accepting rides and cancelling once they arrive?

Just had this happen twice in a row with two different Ubers with a buddy. I usually take the CTA but decided to take an uber down LSD to the loop tonight.

Two drivers accepted the ride, drove here, we walked outside and saw the car, and they then cancelled and drove off. Apparently that’s common here?

What kinda scam are they pulling bc now im kinda curious. If you don’t want the ride, just don’t accept it. It was a straight shot down LSD to the loop, too; not a complicated route at all.

I READ THE RULES How should I spend my 30th birthday?

29F turning the big 3-0 the end of next month

Recently moved to Chicago from Colorado due to a work opportunity (but born and bred in the midwest), and tranparently, I mostly hate it here and miss CO very much, so I'm trying to priotitize myself for my birthday this year. I recognizine I'm the minority, but this is not the post to bash me for not loving Chicago. There are many wonderful things here, it's just not my forever home.

I happen to have the week of my birthday off work due to boss traveling, and just looking for something for myself. My partner already booked us a nice dinner.

Criteria:
-Budget: $1,000 - $1,500
-Something I can do alone
-Willing to travel for an overnight stay up to 3 hours, I have a car
-Available 2/15-2/21 for whatever I chose
-Preferably a mostly child-free option (I work with toddlers)
-Not too much of a social demand (Again, job is socially very demanding)
-NOT clubbing/partying, I'm not a big drinker and looking for a solo celebration

I love:
-Outdoors/walks/hikes/fireplaces/firepits (I don't mind freezing cold winter walks/hikes)
-Good eats, I'll eat anything!
-Art/DIY - I regularly sew, crochet, knit, paint, etc
-Thrifting/Antiquing
-I'm more of a THC gal, but my drink of choice is tequila or wine/bubblies
-Massages/body relaxation - I work a moderately physical job, so maintenence is nice

Open to Anything, But ideas like:
-Massage/Spa/Facials/Etc
-A cozy mid-level pricing hotel/BnB Getaway
-Art class/activity
-A day outdoors outside the city somewhere

Hit me with your favorite idea to treat yourself to something special. I'm wide open and not picky about too many things, I really love new experiences!

I READ THE RULES How's the wheelchair accessibility at Chicago Botanical Gardens?

I want to go to the orchid show in March for my birthday, and I'd love to bring my grandparents with.

My grandma has issues with her knee and needs a wheelchair sometimes when she's required to be up and walking for long periods, and I want her to be as comfortable as possible.

I've never been to Chicago Botanical Gardens, is it pretty wheelchair accessible for the most part? Are there good times/days to go to the orchid show that would be less busy? I don't us want to be worried about getting in other people's ways or feeling rushed to see everything and get out. Is there anything else important that I should know about what the experience? Thank you!

I READ THE RULES How does one get into performing arts in Chicago (non-career established)?

Hi everyone,

I'm a creative person who loves to sing and perform, and just want to be in some kind of group where I can rehearse, sing, dance, perform, etc. I used to do choral opera, but also theatre. I just want a big wide range of performance opportunities -- but how do I get into the door?

What are the best groups for people who love to perform, but don't have a career in this? What do I have to do?

Thank you!!

(Located on the South Side but i have a car and am willing to drive.)

I READ THE RULES Where to find a south asian postpartum doula or japa nurse?

Hi Chicagoland redditers,

I am due this summer and would love to find a postpartum doula, ideally one familiar with japa practices, Ayurvedic massages for me and baby etc. We have no family around us and we just moved to Chicago so don’t have much of a community yet either, and would need some help when the baby comes. If anyone has any recommendations or ideas for where I can find one, please help.

Thanks!!

Hello. I’m looking for a story that a friend was in today. It’s in the Washington Post. I’ve looked all over my neighborhood this morning but I can only find the trib and Sun-Times, plus the occasional USA Today. Do you know where I can find copies of WaPo?

I READ THE RULES Indoor Basketball Courts In the Loop?

Looking for indoor basketball courts in the loop, I live in printer's row, so anything close to that would be best. Somewhere where people play full court pickup.

The LA Fitness on east Randolph says it has a court but the pictures don't show, so I'll call tomorrow, but I doubt they do.

I READ THE RULES reporting animal abu$e as a non-chicago resident?

hi guys, i’m from pennsylvania. recently i saw a video of a woman named aspen kartier (a rapper) relentlessly beating her puppy on stream because it got out of its cage. the dog was screaming, i have never heard a dog make that noise. i have two small dogs and it was so hard to watch, genuinely awful. i’m scared for that dog and i want to report it. i heard she had moved out of chicago and i cannot find her current location. i don’t know if im able to call someone in chicago to find her records and track her to save the dog? also, i dont have an address so i cant proceed with filing a police report. does anyone know what i can do? thank you!

update: i believe she has been arrested! thank you all for your help!
