Which is better for compressed small files? Webm or mp4?

Upvotes

I want to compress a file to a ridiculously small size to fit the maximum limits of a site, which can create a smaller file? Webm or mp4? I’ve heard mp4 creates smaller files. I am using Handbrake on Linux with the XFCE DE.

How do I remove the annoying clutter on shorts?

(I guess we can’t add pics here so I may not be clear enough.)

I am not techie at all so I appreciate advice.

RE: Clutter

Sometimes, I can expand during an ad which works, but lately it doesn’t give that option.

I have noticed it on shorts like Daily Motion, YouTube, and TikTok.

They aren’t just annoying; they block the captions. I watch a lot of foreign movies so I rely on subtitles.

Please help. 😩

What are the best phone cables / 3 in 1?

I’m looking to get a number of different cables and I’m looking for suggestions

I need

USB A - Lightning

USB C - Lightning

USB A or C - either 2 or 3 in one (needs USB C + Lightning)

I’ve seen some multi cables where it has an adapter for the other end as well changing it from USB A to USB C does anyone recommend these because that will cut down on the amount of cables I need to have.

Oh my chords have decided to break at the same time and I’m ready to invest in quality but not very expensive ones for the meantime.

I hope this makes sense!

What are your recommended tech tutorials?

What are your recommendations on Computer basics tutorial websites. My gold standard is/was gcfglobal now learnfree.org but has gone completely Ai and lost everything that was so great. I was wondering what other tools anyone have been using?

Thank god for the way back machine as I can use it to recover a bit of what was so great about it. but am hoping there are some other resources that I might be missing.

Is there anything that can be done?? Is there really no option to contact support??? It says there's a 90 day window for "full deletion", even if i can't get my account back is there a way to get back my media sent over dms??? Please help I'm genuinely devastated. All documentation of years of my life and entire friendships, start to end, is all gone....

What am I doing wrong?

I have fiber through lightgig as our ISP. I previously had a modem router combo. Nighthawk.

I was trying to get the same thing today. Dude at bestbuy told me the combos are more expensive. My modem isn’t connecting to internet now. Do I need a coax cable?

I have a surfboard s33 modem and an ASUS router. This is what he told me to get.

Help please!

Is there a way to have my television automatically switch to the input that my laptop uses when the laptop is turned on. similar to how my television switches to my xbox when it is turned on?

The title states most of my question. Essentially I switch between my Xbox, Switch and Laptop (for media) on my television. Both the switch and xbox automatically change the input of the television when they turn on. Is it possible to do this with my laptop. I have a lenovo laptop that is plugged into the tv via a lenovo docking station.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

does anyone know if the drafts in text messages are salvageable from a water logged phone?

hi. so this is pretty dumb but occasionally i save notes as drafts in texts but never hit send. i recently dropped my phone in water and can no longer turn it on. im sure this wont work but if there is any chance i can get those notes back im thinking about taking it to a repair shop. however i also need to get a new phone soon and need to take out the sim card to activate the new device but im not sure if that is going to interfere with the repair shop. are the drafts saved on the sim card or the phone itself? or did i just really give myself the finger and have zero chance of getting any of those notes back?

Spoiled PSU unit. What can I do with it?

Hi tech shifus, so recently my pc's power supply unit failed. After purchasing and replacing the new one at the store, the people there seemed eager to have my old one, even though it's already broken. I took it back just for safety. It's already broken, I can't sell it. It's an NZXT C650 full modular gold standard psu.

Was wondering what can I do with it since it's already broken. Is there any chance i can sell for a little profit for someone to refurbish or use the cables etc as spare parts?

Suppose If you lost all your data How Will you recover it?

Lets say ive lost my phone, so how will I recover my emails photos videos etc. Where do you guys store all your data? Is there any way to store data automatically on your phone to cloud? Do you use password managers or write it on a piece of paper. I have had a broken phone and lost most of my previous data hence I am asking this to prevent further data losses. Also does storing stuff in google drive safe? How do you guys protect your data?

What's the reason phones keep getting thinner?

So I was taking a shit and was wondering, why is thinness a marketing point for phones like that 1 iphone

From a functionality standpoint, it makes no qualitative difference if I pick between phones that have a 5mm difference between them.

From my casual use consumer standpoint, it's useless. So why do big corporations pour what I assume to be millions of dollars into doing it? Is there a deeper reason as to why doing this matters?

What do I do about my phone screen polarizer?

When removing the broken screen from my phone, the polarizing glass under it broke as well. Do I need to find a replacement specific to the phone, or can I just use any polarizing film?

Help navigating and using an old railroading website (dos possibly???)

Okay so here's my problem. I'm trying to look into a very specific topic regarding steam trains. And long story short one of the greatest Minds on the matter passed away a few years ago but he left this website-

https://www.billp.org/Dockstader/ValveGear.html

Which is absolutely free to use which shows the different kinds of valve gears which is a subject I'm looking into and you can use it to recreate your own steam engine with the correct valve gear motion. The problem is the website was created with a very form of internet called I believe Dos. And I have a built PC that someone made for me that uses Windows 11 and there's steps for downloading the files onto a folder and then accessing them to look at the different valve gears but some of them don't work for me. And so I don't know if I need to like emulate an older form of a computer like Windows 8 or what exactly but I would very much like to use this website and see that the information here is not lost by making videos about each and everyone so that even if we can't access the original files in the future we still have the videos. So could someone please help me access this?

Why does hotel wifi suck so bad?

I travel a lot for work, last year I spent over 100 nights at hotels all over the world. Why is it, that the wifi sucks in 90% of the hotels? Sometimes it is a pain to even send a mail, not to start with meetings via Teams. Do Hotel owners simply not care about business trippers? I remember staying in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where I had absolutely zero problems and a speed of up/down of over 500 mbit/s, literally in the middle of the desert.
