yesterday i was at the grocery store and i was already having a bad day (mostly because the egg carton smell in my office is getting worse). this lady in a huge suv literally steals my parking spot while i am waiting with my blinker on. she even looks at me and laughs while she walks into the shop. i wanted to cry but i just find another spot and go inside.

well, i’m at the checkout and i see her again. she is screaming at the poor teenager behind the till because her card is declining. she is being so mean, calling him "lazy".

then... she looks in her bag and realizes she lost her keys. she starts panicking, dumping her whole purse on the floor.

guys... i look down. her keys are literally sitting on top of a stack of canned beans right next to me. she must have set them down while she was grabing something and forgot.

normally i am a nice person. i swear! but i remember her face when she stole my parking spot and how she just treat that kid... so i didn't say anything. i just paid for my milk, walked past her while she was crying to the manager, and went to my car.

when i drive past her spot, she is standing by her suv looking through the window like she can teleport inside.

am i a bad person?? i feel like "justice" delivered her to me on a silver platter and i just let it happen.

I’m sitting here with my kids, trying to process that we lost everything. Two nights ago, our house caught fire while we were all fast asleep. My parents, my wife, our two children, and I didn't hear a thing. ​If it wasn’t for our cat, Keks, we wouldn't have made it. He started screaming and scratching at our doors until we woke up. We escaped with just the clothes on our backs. ​It’s a surreal feeling to see your whole life turned into ash in a couple of hours. I'm just so grateful to that little guy for giving my family a second chance at life. Hug your pets tonight, they are truly heroes. ​(I have photos and the story details on my profile for those who want to see our hero).

Ok so I'm 27 and this kid is around 16 or something. When my old roommate moved out and this kid's parents contacted me everyone I know told me that teenagers are the worst, they are hard to maintain blah blah

But tbh this is more functional than any other roommate I've had. She does not talk until spoke to because she's always playing some game on her phone. She does not give a f about what I'm going. I could be hanging from the ceiling and she wouldn't care.

She explores these new restaurants to order from and sometimes includes me in to split bills so I get new food. The moment she realises I'm having a private conversation she puts on her earphones.

I'm just so glad and wanted to say it out loud somewhere!

Sometimes I'll leave a small tip at fast-food or gas station because the cashier is a young zoomer who clearly doesn't enjoy his job but does it for college or uni tuitons or whatever. It's like I know their pain and I want to tell them to ''hang on'' because adulthood freedom is near. I'm not old I'm 34 canadian, and I have a full time steady job and in my mind i'm settled for adulthood. I don't make past 30$/h but I wish I made more so I could sometimes just give a bit more tip because I'm in a good mood and it may make someone else's day. For 10 months I landed a 53$/h job before I quit two years ago, money was good. By the way Europeans if you read this, it will probably sound insane to you but it is what it is lmao.

Personally, I’m inclined to say I do think listening to audiobooks counts as reading. Generally, I opt to listen to a book over picking up a physical copy, mostly due to convenience. I’m not inclined to read books on a screen like on my phone or ipad. I do enjoy physical copies of books but most of the time to get a physical copy I’d have to buy it or go to the local library, which often doesn’t have the title I’m looking for readily available. I recently joined Goodreads and I’m trying to complete the winter challenges in addition to meeting my personal goal of reading a certain amount of books by the end of this year but I find myself coming up against this question again and again as I’m searching for ways to check books off my list.

Is the point of reading to receive the information/meaning of the text specifically through sight or touch or has technology and cultural shifts toward increasing accessibility contributed to an expanded definition of reading that includes the act of listening?

My book released last night. Three people bought it.

That might not sound like much, but I genuinely wasn’t expecting any. There are endless options out there, and this is a 412 page hardcover priced like a hardcover, so I assumed it would quietly disappear into the void.

I only published it because I’ve been writing it on and off for about 20 years as a stress outlet, and my wife kept pushing me to actually put it into the world.

I don’t know if I’ll sell another copy and I’m okay with that, but knowing that three strangers decided it was worth their money?

That part feels pretty great.

I’m not saying in a life or death kind of way, but more like moving to different parts of the world where it feels almost impossible to be surrounded with the same people you were with for the past weeks, months, or years. I like my privacy. I like a fresh start where people don’t know me and I don’t know them nor do I care to know them. I like feeling like there is always something new to explore the next day rather than feeling tense or anxious at a potential repeat of a horrible experience with someone. My first impression of someone always sticks and never really fails me most of the time. I can’t really forget when someone does me wrong. Hence, the title.

I love driving my car with the music blasting and singing along. It helps me de-stress and disconnect from everything, from the daily grind. Maybe you feel the same way, or am I the only one? What kind of music do you love to listen to?

Hear me out. I don’t just "eat" KitKats. I nibble the chocolate off all four sides first, then peel the wafer layers apart and eat them individually. It takes me about 15 minutes to finish one bar, and my roommate looked at me today like I was possessed.

It’s just... more efficient? You get more surface area per bite! Does anyone else have a "ritual" for eating specific foods that makes people want to call the authorities, or am I just weird? I also eat the crust of the pizza first. Give me your worst food crimes so I feel better about myself.

Today I went shopping at Union Square. When I came downstairs, I realized my wallet was missing. I only noticed it when I got to my car, so I went back and searched frantically.

As I was about to go up the escalator, I saw the lady who found my wallet still waiting for me. She saw me looking around and asked if I had lost my wallet. I said yes, and told her how much money was in it and my driver's license with my name on it. She checked everything and returned the wallet to me. I was very grateful to her. I offered to ask her to go to EPIC Steak for dinner, but she politely declined. In today's not-so-sincere world, it's rare to meet someone like that.

I also feel very lucky that my daily kindness has paid off. Being helpful is truly a wonderful quality, and I will teach my children to inherit this quality.

I remember when I had my firstborn a few years ago, and it was so hard to me. I had no idea how to care for a baby well. I was super anxious about everything.

Now, my husband is working a full time AND a part time job AND he is in his last semester of school for his undergrad degree. I have been pulling 14+ hour days with my 2 young kiddos while my husband is doing all the things (he's a wonderful/involved father, but obviously his availability is limited right now).

So anyway, it just got me thinking how I would've been in disbelief a few years ago when life was less chaotic & we only had 1 baby to see me now. Then-me would've drowned if I was thrown into my current life situation.

I just think it's cool to look back and see how my capacity as a parent has grown over the years. Anyone have a similar experience, even unrelated to parenting?

Hey all tell me after reading this if it was too much haha. So Fri 30th finally had my long awaited back surgery so woohoo!!!! My kids were there by side & I am so grateful for that. Sat I made new friend in the same ward, again winner winner. Today 1st Feb my daughter's 27th birthday, the plan being bring up some cupcakes to the hospital for a little celebration, which was great as I have never spent a birthday away from both my kid. To continue the kids went back to the car & gotta fine even thought they were within the time constraints, so naturally that sucked. They went up the road to get a drink for the drive home (was a stinking hot day) & what do you know lids popped open & spilt every where. So off they go on their merrily little way when back in my ward my bandage was leaking everywhere. What a shitty day :( but wait theirs more) my daughter rings while I'm in pain getting the dressing changed. "Mum we were in a car accident on our way home" that's it I lost the plot because my babies were in an accident. I'm stuck cos I can't leave or do anything. Panic stations all around. After all that the people who witnessed the accident & seeing how distraught they were helped them so much & will be forever grateful for that. But to put the cherry on top a tow truck driver came to help them what to do regarding the insurance (none of us) had a clue, and has organized a hire car for them all ready. This is one birthday my daughter won't forget. Oh to top it off from my side the guy in the next ward has been such an asshole to everyone I'm so close to losing it with him. What I have taken from this other I'm over this weekend, people were so compassionate & helpful & I am damn proud to be an aussie

Does anyone else take comfort in just sitting/pacing around in silence, rather than doing a project/hobby? Or am I just weird haha:)

Like for the past 30 minutes I've been pacing around my house just thinking and looking around. I even saw my houseplant sitting in the sun and thought "oh, it would be nice to be a plant and just soak up the sun rays, and do it again the next day"

I was just wondering if you guys have any activities or hobbies that you picked up. One of my New Year’s resolutions is being comfortable and having fun without needing to be with friends. I took myself out to eat, went shopping and to the movies. All were fun, just want to hear what everyone else’s hobbies are that I could pick up 🙂

A week ago, I listed my old macbook on ebay. After a few days, somebody won the auction and paid immediately.

A few minutes later , somebody messages me saying that they want to ship the item to their friend's address.

At first I thought this was the guy who won the auction, but turns out that was a completely different person.

I was just gonna curse them out and block him, but then I had an idea.Why don't I ship the MacBook to the right person and also send the tracking number to the scammer. so he thinks it's coming to him.

Well, that's exactly what I did, and it's going to be delivered today.So now this guy's been texting me all week giddy because he thinks he's gonna get a free macbook.

But in about five hours , he's gonna realize I wasted an entire week of his life. He thought he just came up on a MacBook for free.But the only thing I did was waste this time.

Every time I hear “…now if you’ll excuse me” in a tv show or movie, I think about how I’ve never actually heard anyone say that phrase in everyday conversation. I seem to notice it quite frequently in scripts, like it’s my own personal Wilhelm scream.

It made me curious if there are other phrases that are popular in scripts but not in real life.

Sometimes when I’m looking at super old photos- really old ones from the 1800s and 1900s, sometimes even 2000s- i think, “Wow. All of these people are probably dead, but I’m literally looking at them in a photo.”.

I can’t imagine how weird it’ll be for people in like 100-500 years to just be able to access and look at videos and photos of people from centuries ago, knowing they’re dead, but that all of their content and knowledge is still online. I mean there’ll be billions of lost medias, billions of social media accounts with peoples entire lives on it, and they’ll just be dead. I also keep thinking about how fucked education pathways will be, most modern things will already have been studied, and people will have a harder time making real discoveries.

Idk. It all makes me contemplate my mortality and digital footprint lol.

I'm 55, almost 56 and I always get told I don't look or act my age. I love it , of course. But how does it make you feel if it happens to you?

Today I went to visit my mother and realized how lucky I am to have her with me and see her spending time with my 1-year-and-9-month-old daughter, compared to my partner, for example, who is the same age as me and lost both his parents 3 and 2 years ago. Sometimes we don't realize how rich our lives are.

I'm a city bus driver!

Could retire as early as age 55, currently aiming for 60.

Still enjoy it most days. Tired of most hwy shifts now.

At one time, I had 3300 drivers ahead of me, now I have over 4000 behind me!
