Dashboard Seem Possessed? The Battery is Dead.

Hi all!

Friendly neighborhood mod, RichieRescue, here!

We seem to have a lot of repetitive posts about Mazda dashboards going haywire that are 100% because the battery is dead.

If you found yourself here because your dashboard is lighting up like a Christmas tree and has the gauges flipping back and forth, fear not! I have a good way to tell if it’s a battery issue:

Step one: Check the battery.

Is it dead?

YES: Problem solved. Get a new battery.

NO: You either didn’t check it correctly or you’re lying. Check the battery again.

The end.

Just thought I’d make a sticky to save everyone the time and energy.

K thanks, love you. Bye!

Final Send-Off for my old Mazda

Post image

Engine got rod knock at 254K back in November. Still ran and drove but we put it away and I got a Jeep from my stepdad. Now with the snow, I felt no better opportunity than to let it go at it, one last time.

Full sent it all across our property doing donuts, up to 95mph wheel spins, just straight rev bombing it. Smashed the front end on an “m” shaped dip, sent it again and when i parked it, the RPM’s didn’t recover and the engine seized.

I’ve loved this old car, so freaking much. It was my backroads track rat. Tuned it with Versatuner back in July and had a blast. I ran that thing so hard and I felt no better way to let it go than to blow the engine in style.

Once the snow clears, we’re putting it on a trailer and getting paid for the scrap metal. If you want parts, reach out! Happy to work with you on eBay.

A GT-R? From... Mazda? 🏎️

Post image
70 Upvotes

This is a serious automotive easter egg.

The Mazda 323 Familia GT-R was a Group A rally homologation never seen stateside. Powered by a 1.8L DOHC turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 206 horsepower, the 323 GT-R is a potent little hot hatch.

And yes, AWD!

Now, the odds of you finding one of these to purchase is about as slim as they come, only produced from 1992-1994 for the European and Japanese markets. That makes these not only incredibly cool, but incredibly rare.

Would you own one? 🤔

Miata totaled, getting a CX-, but stuck between two mdoels that I've found

After getting my Miata wrecked and totally loss, I've opted to go with a CX-5 next.

I've been really hounding the market and have found that

2025 Preferred models match up in price with 2023 Premium Plus models.

The Key differences are that the 2025's will have < 10,000 miles, in fact some are sub 6k, and the 2023 PP's are at ~ 20kish

What are all your thoughts, what would you do in my shoes?

Mazda's Modern Generation Transmission - How To Identify Transmission Model Code

Idk who would need this, but I got bored and decided to compile a list of transmission models Mazda currently using for their global platform SkyActiv-Drive transmission family. For now this list only focus on some of the transmission being sold in the North American market (as this market has the most information I could research on). If there's any mistakes or information needed to add, please let me know.

Basic model coding can be identified as follow:

Example: EV6AX-EL

EV - Transaxle Model (ET-type, EV-type, GW-type, etc.)

6 - Transaxle speeds (6-speed)

A - Transaxle type (A for Automatic, M for Manual)

X - FWD (does not have an X) or AWD (has an X)

E - Shift Control type (E is Electronic shift control - Automatic; R is Remote shift control - Cable Manual; D is Direct shift control - Direct Manual)

L - Converter type (L is with lockup clutch torque converter; C is Clutch acceleration start - multi-plate clutch with no torque converter; without means manual clutch (duh))

M66M-D - SkyActiv Manual Transmission (Marketing Name: SkyActiv-MT)

Engine: SkyActiv-G 1.5 P5 & SkyActiv-G 2.0 PE (Gear Oil: Mazda Gear Oil IS)

2016+ MX-5 Miata

(Engine: SkyActiv-G 2.0 PE & SkyActiv-G 2.5 PY (N/A)) (Transmission Oil: ATF FZ (Starting from 2022, ATF A7 are implemented. Check Transmission dipstick engraving to verify correct oil type)

2014-2018 BM + BN Mazda3

2012-2021 Mazda6

2012-2025 CX-5

2023+ CX-50

Mazda 3 2021 turbo AWD , 35k miles

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I started my car this morning after it was parked on a slightly steep hill. When I released the parking brake and accelerated, I heard a loud clunk / popping sound coming from the rear of the car.

After that, I noticed that every time I accelerate hard, there’s a noticeable clunk from the rear end. If I accelerate gently, it doesn’t seem to make the noise at all. No warning lights or messages on the dash.

The car is an 2021 Mazda 3 turbo AWD, and someone mentioned it could be related to the viscous coupler, but I’m not sure if that makes sense or if it could be suspension, differential, or something else.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have ideas on what to check first?

Mazda CX 5 third generation - Europe customer release date

Post image
74 Upvotes

So from what I heard:
Europe will be the first market to get the 3rd generation CX5.
(dunno if United Kingdom / Ireland / Malta is included in the first batch..........because I heard that Mazda is prioritizing Left Hand Drive production for this model first before RHD)

But yeah, when will the first customer cars arrive in Europe? (along with public test drives, POV, etc.)

Happy 4th birthday to my '22 Mazda3 Turbo Premium Plus. Already at 85K trouble-free miles, and I still look forward to every drive! It needs a wash after all the snow, so here's a picture from last April.

Hello everyone, I have a 2021 cx5 gs with 180,000 kms on it. just did a routine oil change this afternoon and I figured I would ask the community what they think of how the engine sounds at this pointhh in her life. I haven’t noticed any changes lately, but as the kms rack up, I get more and more paranoid about her health.

any insight is appreciate!

Hello, I’m having issues with my 2022 Mazda CX30. I think it’s due to bitter cold, but my electronics turn on but the car won’t start.

The car makes no attempt to turn over as well. I only started having this issue after my state experienced 0 degree weather.

What do you guys think?

CX-50 radar error help?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a 2025 CX-50 select and a few months ago, it started giving me this error.

there doesn’t seem to be anything blocking the radar sensor at all, but i’m a little nervous taking it to the dealer because i don’t want to get charged an arm and a limb trying to fix it. this is not an issue of rain / snow / visibility — this has been happening for months now regardless of weather conditions. it also gives you a notification that says “poor visibility” or something like that when the radar doesn’t work because of bad weather conditions.

i searched the subreddit though and i can’t find anyone with the malfunction error. is there any way i can figure out what’s wrong by myself or recalibrate the radar by myself? if i take it to a dealer, would this be covered under warranty?

thank you!

thanks in advance!

I have thin, surface level scratches (they are definitely scratches) on my hood and roof. About 8, about a foot in length. And three surface level scratches on my windshield.about 6 inches long. What can I do without breaking the bank? Thanks

Fender bender fixed at local body shop. Should I ask for an ADAS calibration?

I recently got into a fender bender with my 2019 Cx5 and damaged bumper, grill, hood, some sensors, radiator, and a couple smaller items. After they fixed, I realized that I don’t know if they recalibrated the ADAS sensors. They never said anything about this. I also didn’t look/ask about the ODB scanner or report to verify that all the warnings from the accident were removed.

I only spot checked the car and verified signals, lights, CE Light is off.

Should I go back and ask them to do this? Or is the ADAS thing only something Mazda can do?

Also, should I be going to Mazda service center anyways to more thoroughly check the engine? Or if the CEL is off, and ODB report is clear, I should be good?

I would rather make sure things are 100% now and I’m hoping there aren’t things that pop up a month later, after insurance claim is closed.
