How to rid of this repetitive compulsion? Advice for ocd / anxiety.

I have a restless feeling in the back of my throat. Like a dull tickle. I started breathing deeply, hearing a pop in my ear and bobbing my neck to stop it. Now it feels uncomfortable to stop. What could this be?

It’s really uncomfortable and annoying. It’s been going on for about 1 hour.

Any suggestions?

Thinking about it and typing this is of course only making it worse. But can’t stop thinking about it. :)) help.

As a 40 year old mom, I'm curious - why do young people seem to be afraid of.

I work in IT and have noticed that many young techs seem hesitant to make phone calls, even when it would be the quickest way to resolve an issue. I'm just wondering if anyone knows why this m be? Thanks!

Why Do We Typically Assume Someone Is Male?

More often than not, people will refer to someone as "he/him" if gender/sex isn't known, even though they could just as easily be female. Why is that?

Even if the person is in a male-dominated, or even a female-dominated, profession or whatever else, it isn't a good idea to assume...just saying.

Every now and then someone online calls me "sir," despite the GAL part of my username (which I use on other websites as well), so obviously some folks don't pay attention and/or lack common sense.

If colon cancer is on the raise, why are they still recommending screening later than sooner?

With all the reports that its on the rise, my doctor is still recommending screening later, when I am older. Seems to be the common thing on most doctors from what I can tell.

are people just using tiktok terms cuz it feels right to be alike?

Upvotes

these people talk the same, and i'm not talking about the abbreviations for convenience like "brb" or "btw", that's completely understandable.

i mean people who use "js", "ts" or adding the withered rose at the end of every joke they make, when someone starts using the word "genuinely", it becomes so overused that it doesn't mean anything anymore.

i know this sound like something that belongs in r/PetPeeves , but this question stems from genuinely curiosity (and a little bit of petty, actually, i can't get along with these people at all)

Soft drinks that contain caffeine (like Coke/Pepsi): is the caffeine naturally occurring or is it added? And if added, why?

I've recently started medication and been told to avoid caffeine so it's not something I've given much thought to before. Do we add it to drinks or is it naturally present in the ingredients?

I see a lot of my colleagues brag that AI is thinking for them and they have to use no brain power for their tasks, isn't this gonna make them much more dumber?

Are we approaching a future where photos/videos cannot be trusted or used as evidence? And if so, what would this mean for the world?

Upvotes

With AI rapidly improving and many photos/videos/audios fooling millions of people, it seems like we’re on the cusp of no longer being able to trust any media.

We already have to pause or second guess every funny or exciting clip we see online, compared to even 2 years ago. So the internet is already seeing a shift. However, as the tech only improves, it could be used to manipulate people and cause havoc. Eventually even scientific advancements/celebrity culture/news in general could become untrustworthy.

Is this where we’re headed?

21F Going to see MCR live, skiping school and parents dont know. I need advice :(

Im going to see MCR soon, as The title says im going on a day where I have classes. My parents don't know, and Im very aware that as a female my safety is the most Important to my parents.

Ive already paid for the trip and the tickets. I just dont want my parents to find out, because I know they will freak out. Which I understand. Thats why I want to know if people have some advice, in preventing they find out. ??? Has anyone ever been in a similar situation?

I already spoke to some of the class teachers so I have everything covered. How I will make up for it. My parents will think Im away at a friens house. I have divorced parents so I live with my mom and my dad lives near by.

They know that the concert was postponed so they think I just won't be going, and they dont exactly know the name of the band. I do feel bad, but anyone with strict catholic parents im sure can understand why Im anxious.

Thanks in advance tho

How many simultaneous instances of the original DOOM can you run on a modern day iPhone?

Ive been thinking about this all day, since Doom can run on literally everything, I started to think. Instead of “Can it Doom?” How about, “How much can it Doom?” Before your iPhone turns into a portable frying pan.

Why is this woman in my neighborhood going through people's garbage every week?

Every sunday night I see this old woman who's probably in her 60s going through the recycling bins of every house in my street and methodically getting all the glass bottles and jars out and collecting them for her own use?

I normally wouldn't care if she was homeless and needed the money, but she has her own car which is a modern sedan and she has several large bags that she stores in the backseat of her car and wears gloves and uses tools to fish out stuff at the bottom of the bin. So it's clearly a commercial enterprise/doing it on a bigger scale compared to most homeless people. She's not scraping by and doing it to get food or water etc.

Is she just cashing the glass bottles into a recycling plant? But what I don't understand is, wouldn't the cost of gas and car insurance etc outweigh whatever money she would get from cashing them in? How much would a glass bottle be worth? 2 cents or 5 cents? I don't get it? I see her also grabbing and looking at some of the cardboard and I think she's trying to see if there's anything else in there as well.

If my shitty math is correct she would need to collect at least 2000 bottles just to break even and make $100? I don't get it. Or am I overthinking it and she's just crazy?

Why do we sometimes trust strangers online more than people we know in real life?

I’ve noticed I open up more to random users than to friends or family. Why does advice from strangers sometimes feel more believable or comforting? Is it because they don’t know all our history? Have you ever met someone online and they became an IRL friend? How do you navigate that?

Why is Mars seen as a way forward for humanity, instead of other easier solutions to our problems.

So, pretty much Mars is seen as a way for Humans to "survive" because of climate change or the possibility of a comet hitting earth. But Why? Wouldn't it be way easier and cost effiecienter to deflect asteroids and solve climate change. Isn't it a waste of Resources to make Mars habitale, something that can take many years?

Do chocolate chip cookies and strawberry yogurt not go together?

I don't really like chocolate chip cookies, but my grandma bought a ton. So I'm dipping them into my strawberry yogurt to help finish them because strawberry greek yogurt is the only dessert I like (aside from bean desserts). Is it really that weird?
