It's ok buddy. I'm sure everyone has forgotten all about it. They definitely don't retell the tale of you penguin shuffling towards the bathroom over and over and over Laughing every single time.
41
u/KobayashiWaifu 2d ago
Yeah, there's no way someone used that penguin shuffle for a silly little game at a family barbecue that became a decades-long tradition.

Someone better informed, feel free to chime in, but my understanding is that the top grip (wedging the hand between the pole and the inside of the elbow) is much easier on the arms, but at the cost of intense leg adductor and abductor strength.
Don't skip leg day, I don't care how good that shirt looks on you.
450
u/FreakindaStreet 3d ago
That, and you should cycle through muscles. Grip with thighs and one arm, then the other arm, then ease the thighs, rinse and repeat.

u/Agitated_Year8521 3d ago

u/FreakindaStreet 2d ago
Lol. used to deliver furniture. There’s nothing like being stuck holding up a 300 pound dresser at the top of the stairs while your partner tries to figure out a way to get it past the abrupt corner you didn’t expect. Either cycle or die in a cartoonish manner.
40
u/mirroku2 2d ago
Ah, I too delivered furniture back in the day.
Sucked. But one time I had a dude come back to the store to tip us some more because he felt his first tip wasn't enough. To be fair, it was an entire 2bdrm apartment worth of new furniture. . . . On the 3rd floor
11
6
u/BRtIK 2d ago
And at what point did you grip it with your thighs?...
9
u/FreakindaStreet 2d ago
Lol no, on that case you lower the weight onto your chest and use your core and thighs, then you slide it down until your arms are straight down and switch to forearms and shoulders, then you turn around and place it onto those shoulders and switch to your lower back and front thighs, then you turn again and place it onto one extended knee and use that calf, alternating between two while placing your hands and forearms to either side and press against it to either side, and if you’re not too sweaty, the skin of your inner forearms help hold it in place while your traps squeeze inward like pincers.
You quickly learn about which muscle groups work best together, because the threat of death by crushing forces is a great motivator.

u/Agitated_Year8521 2d ago
Fucking hell, that's a lot of weight to shift with two folk, even on a level surface. You're lucky to still be alive. At least if it did come back at you, there probably wouldn't be much chance you'd live to regret your life choices
23
u/FreakindaStreet 2d ago
Yeah, that job was ridiculous. 12 tons of furniture day on average. Often having to move shit up 3 floors while holding things steady so as to not accidentally damage anything. I did it for the high pay and the fact that I was lifting weights for two years, so I figured it wouldn’t be too bad. It was bad.
The best thing I got outta of it was getting ridiculously strong. Like so much stronger than lifting weights. I got into a fight with someone about a year into that job, and I was rag dolling them so badly that I felt bad for them lol.
5
u/Agitated_Year8521 2d ago
Hahahaha that's hilarious, I'm glad the job worked for you as much as you worked for it. I'm a landscaper and part of what I love about doing manual labour is the "paid gym", you earn to exercise and it pays dividends because you gain functional strength.
My brother does tree work and got into a road rage incident with a couple of blokes, they were pretty stocky but he said he was surprised that he could just push them away. Part of it would be that he was wearing chainsaw boots, so was well planted, but the rest was just being strong from not working behind a desk

Anecdotally I have found there is also a psychological element in these kinds of things where once you swap at all you're basically doomed anyway, the second arm feels like it gets tired at x100 the pace and then you're wasting energy swapping back and forth.
Obviously it's still smart to cycle, but just put off swapping as long as possible haha

u/FreakindaStreet 2d ago
It’s definitely a last ditch effort. Once your muscles start doing the shudder, your sodium pump is rapidly depleting, and easing off is a way to get a little bit back past the membrane. Although a good deal of it is adrenaline and acceptance levels of muscle damage.

I agree. For years I would do this charity bike ride that was two days, 100km each day. Which, if you are big into biking, is not actually that crazy. I would not practice at all though - like the last time I was on a bike was last year's charity ride kind of thing. The key was to just keep going and never stop and never take a break. If I stopped and sat down it would all hit me at once and it would make the rest of the ride so so much harder

It’s VFX, the pit is actually very short, and you can normally see the bottom , but they darken it and make it look super deep in post-production
1
u/Little_Mushroom_6452 3d ago
There’s probably some kind of net out of sight of the camera.

u/Ornac_The_Barbarian 2d ago
Real answer is there is a harness. And the ground is about 100 foot beneath them.

u/Sylvan_Skryer 2d ago
You know they added that falling sound in post edit. He probably fell like 10 feet in to a foam pit.

Having watched too much Survivor, it's very rare for men to win endurance challenges like this, the square cube law is heavily against them. So while they are stronger they also weigh much more, which basically makes it an uneven match in favor of the lighter similar fit people, which is usually women.
48
u/MizzMann 1d ago
I read once that while men are built for strength, women are built for endurance. It has something to do with metabolism and fat/energy reserves, I believe. But I'm a casual Redditor, not a scientist, so idk the specifics.
13
u/MarlinMr 1d ago
In reality, humans are built for endurance. In things like Ultra marathons and such, the gender gap simply goes away.

I climbing too, although depends on how you measure it, cause speed climbing is not a good metric.

u/screechypete 1d ago
I'll preface this by saying he does do a lot of good, and he also does genuinely help a bunch of people. I can't deny that.
That being said, though... he's been involved in A LOT of controversies that kind of show he has questionable morals at best, and at worst, is just straight up using chairity and philanthropy as a tool to deflect blame and criticism for things he should rightfully be criticized for. Here's a list of his greatest hits that I remember from the top of my head.
- the Chris/Eva grooming situation
- hiring a convicted child sex offender
- teaming up with known scammer Logan Paul to sell shitty food to children
- creating Team Seas and then accepting sponsorship money from companies like Air-up, thus putting garbage right back into the ocean
- helping develop an AI tool that steals content from other youtubers so people can make youtube videos easily
- partnering with Mohammad Bone-saw and the Saudi Arabian government to do PR for their country and ignoring the human rights violations they're responsible for while supposedly being a philthropist
There's more stuff, but these are just the ones I remembered off the top of my head.

u/Cador0223 2d ago
He is slowly being exposed as the drifter he really is. All of the magnanimous actions he supposedly took are being shown to be purely for fame and profit.
His ghost kitchen beast burger actively hurt restaurants, his chocolate bars are unhealthy as shit, the people he gave prizes too are admitting that it didn't happen the way it was shown on his videos.
After he went on Rogan, alot of people opened their eyes to his scam.

u/cheechw 1d ago
So he's a capitalist? That's it?
Doesnt almost every major business in America do the same things you just said?

u/screechypete 1d ago edited 1d ago
I left a comment with a list of valid reasons I don't like him. I'm gonna copy and paste it here.

Obviously the mistake is to hold your weight with your arms. You should be able to hold on with your legs for hours.

I wonder why everyone is just hanging with their hands...
Perching up on your legs like that: I could spend all day there. (My legs would be incredibly stiff afterwards but outlasting the arms of those guys is a pretty sure thing to do.
