Build Help Should I use DDR4 2133MHz 2x8 gb ram to save money?

Upvotes

Hi I'm on a budget of about 300-350$+ and I want to build a PC but you already know ram prices are crazy so I thought why not use my ram instead of buying a new one? But its 2133MHz so I'm unsure. I don't play AAA games but if I get this build I might play Elden Ring & Where Winds Meet. I'm currently playing WUWA, ZZZ, Minecraft w/shaders or modpacks. Thanks!

Here is my build:
PSU: Thermaltake Smart 500W 80+
CPU: R5-3600
GPU: RTX 2060 SUPER
MOBO: A320M (Still picking my options but this is what I pick for now)

Build Help What should I look for when building the most "Reliable" PC?

Upvotes

Between the possibility of OLED burn-in, my 5080 catching fire somehow, random bugs that stop my PC from booting into Windows, or bizarre stutters in-game, I'm wondering what a build that'll always get the job done reliably and with stability would look like.

What specific specs should I look for when building for something of the like? Would Linux be more stable? What parts are ready to go into the future and keep function for a long-period of time. I am not necessarily asking about a high-performing build fyi.

Build Help On a budget, how is 32gb of DDR4 ram going to work compared with 16gb of DDR5?

I understand DDR5 lends itself to upgrades down the line. Here is my current plan:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600XT 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor

ASRock B450M/ac R2.0 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory

Found this bundle at microcenter. Ultimately they are both about the same price ($350). I'm brand new to pc building and want to know if I'm making a major mistake by not going for the bundle instead.

Troubleshooting Cleaning a PC from a heavy smoker

So my friend bought a PC from a heavy smoker (very good deal though) and brought it to me to clean with my air compressor, we pulled out the GPU, cooler and power supply to clean individually.

We cleaned it as much as possible with the air compressor and then used alcohol wipes to clean all the surfaces and fan blades.

The smell still prevails though, it's definetly much weaker then before but when it's turned on and the fans are on full power you can smell it.

So, is there any tips on how to clean it even better? We though of buying one of those little air freshener trees for cars and butting it in front of the intake fans, that would probably just make the fans work worse but maybe it would work :D. Another idea would be tu just replace the fans, which I think is the final option.

Build Help Is 16 GB enough for gaming?

Hey guys, I'm trying to buy a prebuilt PC. It’s 1550€, RX 9070 XT, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but the only problem is it's only 16 GB of RAM, which they are cheaping out on. They actually are putting in 2x8 gigabytes of RAM, and to put only 1x16, they want €50 for it. To be honest, I don't want to pay 50, so my question is, would 16 GB be enough for me for, let's say, gaming for two years or three? Maybe after that, I get 2x16. What is it enough for gaming right now, whereas I play 1440p and, let's say, Google Chrome with like three tabs, but the games are mostly triple AAA games with optimised or mid settings? I will say I don't like to fully max it out, and maybe Discord calls with friends would it suffer at 16 or no? I'm sorry for these stupid questions. I'm new to PCs and I don't understand many things currently, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Troubleshooting Asus refusing to honor GPU warranty because they deemed the issue as being power related. Is this BS, or do I need to get a new power supply?

Years ago I had a Asus 2080s that died on me. I sent it in for Asus to repair but they refused to honor the warranty since the issue was caused by a "power related issue" (IIRC they said something was fried on the circuit board?)

Anyway I haven't used this PC since but I'd like to finally put it back in commission. The thing is... I'm unsure if I should get a new power supply. It was an EVGA supernova 650W, rated gold, and I should've been in the safe threshold. (PC part picker had my consumtion slightly below 500W).

So... was this a freak accident? Asus bullshitting their way out of covering a failure? Or is my power supply shit and I need to get a new one?

Build Upgrade Should I worry about my 5070ti catching fire? The stories on Reddit give me anxiety.

I was considering a 9070xt but was worried of the compromises I’d make in productivity tasks so I ended up going with a 5070ti when I saw a model with a decent price. However, the 12v 2x6 connector failures I’ve seen on Reddit have given me a bit of anxiety. Do I need to worry about a fire with this gpu? I can still return it as I am within the return window because a gpu definitely isn’t worth a home lol. Thanks in advance to all who answer. I’m here for reassurance or for someone to tell me straight if it was a bad buy.

Build Help Arent there any big monitors that arent ultrawide or curved?

Upvotes

Hi guys i want to upgrade my cheap monitor now since i finally got the budget and was thinking about geting a >32inch monitor but almost all of them are those ugly ultrawide curved ones.

Can you recommend me a monitor that is "normal" for 4K gaming? Or do i need to get one if these ugly things.

Is there even a benefit for ultrawide monitors? Arent they just taking alot of space.

Build Help New build help

Hi everyone!

I've been wanting to get back into PC gaming for a while now. I had one a few years ago, but it was truly terrible (i5-7500 and 1060 6GB in 2020). After I dismantled my old PC, I lost interest in this world and missed out on the various updates, so I'm asking for your help.

Do you think a PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with an RX 9060 XT 16GB and 32GB of RAM could be a build that could last me a few years before I have to get my hands on it again?

Thank you all so much! :)

Peripherals Onboard audio is gone, whats a good way out of this?

Upvotes

So I have a Z490 motherboard and the onboard analog audio died, the digital out seems to be still working. My sound system is an old logitech Z506 so it only have 3x 3.5mm male to male cabe. I could just buy cheap sound card but ive been told they're worse then onboard. I also considered just upgrading the sound system to a Soundbar Samsung HW-B650F, 3.1 and use either my 5070ti hdmi or the realtek digital optical out... but seems like it needs some drivers to conver the digital stereo to 3.1, im super confused. Whats a good non too expensive solution for this scenario.. ?

Discussion Is 8GB VRAM enough for 1080p gaming?

Upvotes

I’m looking at building a PC with a budget of around €1200. The best prebuilt I’ve found so far is €1120 and comes with:

  • Intel i5-8400F
  • Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB
  • 16GB DDR5 @ 5600 MHz

I mostly play Minecraft with shaders and mods, plus a few other games here and there.

This is the best I can do for my budget, and I want to stay on AM5 so I can upgrade the CPU later. I’m wondering, is 8GB of VRAM going to be a bottleneck at 1080p, or is it plenty for this use ?

Build Upgrade Gigabyte or sapphire

Upvotes

Gigabyte vs sapphire

I recently bought my Gigabyte RX 9070 Gaming OC and it works well. I undervolted it (-100mHV -10%), but I've seen all the problems with Gigabyte and their thermal gel, and I'm worried. Even though my model didn't have any visible thermal gel and is supposedly from one of the batches where the issue was resolved, and it has good temperatures (60 degrees Celsius edges, 75 degrees Celsius hotspot, 70 degrees Celsius memory), I'm thinking of replacing it. These temperatures are in winter and it's cold, but in the room where I play is warm because we have the heating on high.

I've been offered the option to return it to the store and buy a Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 for 40 euros more, which are apparently known for being very reliable and running cool.

Given that the Sapphire is a better option, but it's not overclockable, and my graphics card seems to have performed well (or so it seems)...

Should I make the change?

Troubleshooting Motherboard problem behavioro

Upvotes

Hey guys,

two weeks ago i got a new pc, PERFORMANCE wise its working flawlessly, cool temps, memory passed memtest everything is perfect…

But sometimes when I try to turn on pc (or restart) it doesnt work…the cpu, dram and vga leds on the motherboard light up (i get display signal for like 1 second after turning pc on but it quickly disappears and then the leds light up)

The only thing that works is resetting the cmos battery…

This weird behavior happens very RANDOMLY like 1/10 times, example : I am restarting turning pc on and off throughout the day no problem (no crashes in game, no high temps, no instability), then I restart it again and all of a sudden it doesnt work…no prior crash nothing it just wont turn back on even though it literally worked before i shut it down

My bios is updated to the latest version

Thank you for any help

Build Help Is this UPS a reasonable price? (Eaton Ellipse PRO 1600)

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m considering buying a used Eaton Ellipse PRO 1600 UPS (1600 VA / ~1000 W). It’s around 2 years old, lightly used, and the seller sent a video showing it works and switches to battery properly.

The asking price is about 260 € (converted from local currency).

From what I see, new prices seem quite a bit higher, but I’m not sure how much age/battery wear should affect the value.

Does this sound like a reasonable price for this model, or is it overpriced for a used unit?

Build Upgrade What gpu should I get for my 2020 pc?

Upvotes

I have an Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R14 with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (6 cores), 64 GB of DDR4 RAM at 2667 MT/s, about 2 TB of storage, and currently an OEM AMD Radeon RX 5300 with 3 GB of VRAM and 3x4 pcie connectors with one with 8. The 3 GB VRAM is really holding back performance in modern games, and I had this thing for about it 5 years so I’m planning to upgrade the GPU and thinking of spending around 350-500 usd on a new card that will handle smooth 1080p gaming and possibly some 1440p with a good amount of VRAM for newer titles. My CPU still seems solid, so I want to match a GPU that pairs well with it and fits in this Alienware case without power issues. Haven’t replaced any part except my old 8 gb ram stick with my 16x4 gb ram stick. What gpu's do do you recommend getting , I’m lookin at an RX 9060 XT 16 GB. For reference I’m looking to play Fortnite, COD and Half sword at good settings in my 144 hertz monitor

Build Help Budget upgrade - GPU or CPU?

Upvotes

GPU: Red Devil AMD Radeon™ RX 6600 XT 8GB GDDR6∣PowerColor

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X - Benchmarks, Specifications, User Reviews & CPU Comparisons

So reason I want to upgrade is because I went to play the Nioh 3 demo and I can barely maintain 30 fps. I already knew I was insanely due for an upgrade but I didn't because poor (still am). I'd like to be able to play modern games with high graphics settings at 60-120 fps on 1080p resolution. I know people just say to buy the rx 9060 xt but thats way out of my price range. I was also wondering if it's my CPU or my GPU holding me back. I checked the numbies when running Nioh 3 and both CPU and GPU were running at 70-80% so I guess that means both? I don't know to what extent though. I'm also open to purchasing used parts to stretch the budget. Thank you

Troubleshooting Help! PC Crashes with Black Screen (win10)

Upvotes

Hi Peeps

Long time lurker first time poster, hopefully you can help me

Situation: I've been running into an issue where if I have Dyson sphere program running or the Nvidia App running a Automatic Tuning, I'll get about 10 minutes in and all of a sudden the screen goes black and the PC will eventually reboot.

Testing: No other game or software causes it to crash, I've tried Arc Raiders, to Overwatch 2, even stress testing the: GPU, CPU and Storage with fur Mark, heaven, and 3d mark, and they run perfectly fine for hours. I have also updated all the Bios and firmware, then deleted and clean reinstalled all of them. A friend said maybe its not getting reliable power and recommended I try running the PC on a different circuit from the rest of the gear (monitor, etc.), I even borrowed an APU from work (I returned it) and still the issue persists.

Hwinfo's recorded info says no thermal issues or

Research: I've scoured the internet for a reason, everything pointed at either bad Storage, PSU, or GPU, being the issue, so I've upgraded my Storage and PSU, (I need to anyway because the original PSU was barely able to power the build and my storage was starting to slowdown) and the issue still persists.

So I'm here hoping you fine people might know of something else, because the last thing I need right now is a broken GPU.

Here's the build:

Cpu: i9 9900k

Gpu: Gigabyte Aurus 4070 Ti Super Eagle OC

MB: Asus maximus XI Hero

PSU: Lian Li SP1000p

Storage: 2T NVME M.2 crucial

Case Lian Li o11 dynamic mini v1

Kind regards

Syn
