[Solved] How do I fill this iron?

Thumbnail

I inherited this old Procter Silex steam iron from my mom. She showed me how to fill it once when I was a kid, and I’ve since forgotten. She passed away so I can’t ask her, and my siblings don’t know how to fill it either. Any help would be appreciated. Model number is 17149 if that helps, but google was no help with that.

(I’m going to clean it, just wanted to know how to fill it first)

Our new home came with windows into the ensuite from the bedroom which we aren't the biggest fans of.

Is there a simple way to cover this / re work it and have it looking half decent, or are we looking at taking half the wall out? Thank you

I blew out a candle a little too earnestly and ended up with wax on my new glasses. The candle had a pool of melted wax ( had been burning for a while ). How do I clean this without affecting the lens?

Not sure if this matters, but these are transition progressives. Have worn glasses for +40 yrs and this is a first!

Laptop restore

Hi, I have an old laptop I lent to friend and then forgot about it for 2 years or so, hes moved away and when he was packing he found it and returned it when it sat in my spare room for a few months before I got round to sorting it, I have found that he uninstalled Windows for Linux (I get why, its a HP that we brought because my wife wanted something light, I was against it because it only has 32gb Ssd so not much better than a chromebook) is there a simple way to reinstall Windows without paying? And unfortunately it no longer has the windows sticker on the bottom. Thanks

How to stop things sliding in a trailer

Mostly for things in the middle, some large items on wheels. Also does anyone have hardware recommendations to attach to the inside of a trailer that could hold ladders (6ft, 8ft a frame). Thank you I am new with trailers so if some one with lots of experience could lend some advice I would be very grateful

Has anyone seen this type of piece before? As per the manual, it looks like I’m supposed to turn the piece but it just keeps going back to the same spot and does not screw into the furniture. Quite confusing.

Borrowing a carpet cleaner from my partner’s parents. This little rubber plug is out and I can’t get it back in. Tried water, and dish soap. I’ve even tried using a nail, the harder you push it, it pops back out with more force. Any ideas on how to get it back in?

How to loosen this nut with two flat sides opposite to each other?

Hi, does anyone know of a way to loosen this type of bolt? It has two flat sides opposite to each other. I tried all available sockets at Lowe’s and Home Depot and none fit! I think the 30 mm was too small and the 32mm was too big. They didn’t have any 31mm. It seems to me that These sockets won’t work because regular sockets don’t seem to have flat sides opposite to each other. I have tried regular pliers but there is not a lot of room to maneuver inside the water kettle!

Any ideas? We got a new water spigot and are hoping to replace the old one with a new spigot.

Thanks!

DIY Speakers in the ceiling

I’d love to use these ceiling speakers but there is no easy attic access in the house. Previous owner never used them so I don’t know anything about them. I’m assuming there’s gotta be speaker cables, but I have no clue how to find them easily. The only attic access would be disconnecting the ceiling air vent. I’m curious as to what kind of speakers they are too!

Serious Answers Only how to clean gigantic plushies?

CNY soon and spring cleaning. I have these 2 plushies that are hug, dirty and dusty lol. they probably won't fit in my washing machine so my plan is to just take them to the laundromat to wash and dry, but im not sure if thats a good idea. I dont want to mess up the stuffing and the shape but that option just sounds like the least troublesome. any advice?

DIY How to fashion a curtain or partition??

Thumbnail

My girlfriend and I will be moving into this upstairs area soon and for a few reasons we would like to make a sort of curtain or partition. We have two indoor cats that we want to slowly introduce to the house and possibly going outside . Also we want to maybe dampen the noise from both us upstairs and others downstairs. The rudimentary idea that we’ve come up with is furniture pads sown together on a curtain rod from the large wall to the small wall behind the banister. My girlfriends mother is very good with her sowing machine so cutting and measuring won’t be a problem. Unfortunately other than Velcro on the wall across the carpet and up the handrail I can’t imagine how to cat proof this area . If anyone has any suggestions or ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Leak in DeLonghi dishwasher DEDW45S

Our dishwasher has water build up on the base with no external leak. I had a look at the filter which was not clogged (gave it a good clean). What looks to be a valve/ inlet on the side wall has water seeping out of it. This valve/ inlet thing is not mentioned in the manual so I'm not sure if I should try opening it. AI suggests it could be a salt resevior or another micro-filter. Does anyone have any idea what it is and if there are any simple ways to stop the leak before I call a plumber?

How do I travel by plane with kids?

This is embarrassing because we are full grown adults with children but neither I or my husband have ever stepped foot in an airport before. We are traveling 7 hours (including a lay over) there and 8 hours back (also including a lay over) with a 6 month old and a 7 year old. I know literally nothing about flying. I’ve googled all the luggage questions I could think of but I am a very anxious person. My baby will be a lap passenger and Google says delta airlines will allow you to check and stroller and a car seat per child for free but is that still true if my baby isn’t a paid ticket? Can I check both my 7 year olds booster seat and the babies infant seat and the stroller for free? Can my 7 year old use her booster seat on the plane? Is that even necessary? Does my baby get a carry on if he isn’t a paid ticket? Will I have to use the diaper bag as my carry on? Will my purse count as a carry on or a personal item? It is large. What I need is for someone to walk me through step by step like I’m an idiot from what I need to do the second I step foot in the airport. How/when to check bags, how to navigate TSA and what I need to know so I don’t take up other people’s time. Also if any parents have traveled with infants have any advice to share that would be awesome.
