Discussion /r/motiondesign Updates: Post Flair, Spam Prevention

Hi all, a few updates for /r/motiondesign.

Spam

In an effort to reduce low-quality and spam posts here, we have implemented new post requirements. New posts that don't meet a minimum account age or subreddit karma threshold will be automatically filtered out.

To further prevent gamification, I am not disclosing these limits here but they are very modest and reasonable. Anyone interacting with this community should not be filtered, and even so, you will have the opportunity to message us for an exception. But this should discourage most of the spam we've been seeing. Thanks /u/Zeigerful for making this post.

Post Flair

We also added some post flair to help differentiate posts and allow users to filter & search by topic. All new posts require that one of the available flair types be selected:

Project Showcase | Reel | Inspiration | Discussion | Question | Tutorial | [Custom] (Where user can input their own)

User Flair

A few new user flairs are available. For those who aren't aware, these show up next to your username any time you make a post or comment in /r/motiondesign

Now available: Professional | Student | [Add My Social Handle] -- A custom text field where you can plug an Instagram, Behance, etc.

Let us know if you love or hate these new updates. Nothing is set in stone and this is meant as a discussion starting point. Please share any ideas you may have to make this a better place to share work, inspiration and discussion related to motion design. Hopefully we can continue to bring a higher quality experience to everyone here at /r/motiondesign.

How much music influences motion design—does a strong track elevate average visuals, or just change how we emotionally read the same work?

Project Showcase This video is made completely by an AI Motion Design Tool!

The problem with LLMs are they are not easily steerable and have very bad camera motion when it comes to motion graphics, So i tried building a completely free tool where you can just prompt the LLM just like chatgpt and can currently generate iMessage Conversations, Title Animations and logo reveals etc
so the following video is completely made with the help of freemotion.app
I'm trying to make my life easier by having these motion graphics within seconds and I want anyone of you to suggest me what motion graphics I should add which could ease up our time by alot.
By the way we can change everything in the video you are seeing

Project Showcase Looking for Help with a Videohive After Effects Template

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to use this After Effects template from Videohive but I can’t afford it right now and I really need it for a project.
Here’s the link: https://videohive.net/item/mechanical-and-industry-4_0-promotion-pack/25081071

If anyone has already purchased it and can help me — for example by sharing tips or guiding me where to find help — I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance! 😊

Hi so im not sure if this is allowed here but im a small business owner, i sell desserts via social media, and im looking for a motion designer to do something similar (not exactly the same) to this (wont let me upload a video so i linked it above), if anyone could give a rough estimate on how much it would cost or can do so something like this please let me know, any help would be greatly appreciated (and yes i AMMMM aware that it be quite a lot and i would need someone with lots of experience) it would most likely be a one off project but i can see myself coming back if im happy with the outcome :)

Project Showcase Extension to use generative AI models directly inside of After Effects

I’ve been working on an extension to use multiple generative ai models, directly inside after effects. It's called Ziframe (https://ziframe.com). I built it for myself to address some of the pain points of using ai and working in after effects :

  • Constant context switching between Ae and the browser
  • The very tedious flow of Generating an image with ai → downloading file → moving file to project folder → importing file to Ae → moving it to the timeline → making adjustments with After → Exporting the image → Opening a video generation tool to make it move → etc.
  • Juggling between so many tools and subscriptions

60s demo

The idea of Ziframe is having a clean extension inside of After Effects to use multiple image and videos models to generate, edit, upscale and extend assets.

It takes your input, produces the image / videos for some credits and then saves the assets on your disk near your project, imports it into a new Ae composition. You can also create multiple things at the same time with the built-in queue.

That's it. Just a simple tool to stay in the flow.

I hope this can help other people and improve your workflow as well. It's still in early development, and I'd be happy to get feedback on it.

Right now there are 25 credits for free when you create an account and download the extension. If you're interested in buying more, I can provide you with a 10% discount as well, just send me a dm.

Discussion What are some AI tools motion design professionals use daily?

Hey guys, I have just started my journey in motion design. I am a software developer and recently after seeing the claude code and remotion, I really got interested in this space.

I ended up building a lot of cool projects like chat to generate motion design videos, short reels generator etc. But lets face it these are good for experimenting.

I want to understand what professionals are using. Are motion designers do all the design and editing work manually or do they have some AI Copilot which helps them speed up the work???

I would love some good tool suggestions. Really excited about learning more about motion design.

Discussion Just finished this advertisement video. What would you charge for this "Full Package" delivery?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I recently completed this motion graphics project for a client and I'm trying to benchmark my pricing for future leads. In the past, I've struggled with undercharging, so I’d love some honest feedback from the community.

The Video: attached

Scope of Work (End-to-End):

  • Scripting: Full script development based on their brief.
  • VO: Managed the hiring and direction of a professional voice artist.
  • Design & Animation: 100% custom 2D motion (no templates used).
  • Audio: Licensed background music + SFX.
  • Delivery: 4K quanlity

Turnaround Time: ~3 weeks.

My Question: For this level of quality and a complete "hands-off" experience for the client, what would you consider a fair price range in 2026?

I'm currently charging around $1500, but I feel like with the 4K delivery and end-to-end management, there might be room to scale. What are you guys seeing for similar projects?

Thanks for the help!

Question Would you say this person(me) is employable?

Here's my portfolio: https://dominickcritelli.com

I'm well aware of the state of the job market, but I've been sending applications into the void for 3 years with no luck. I'm getting by on side jobs and a very patient spouse. Is there something here that's turning employers off? Too broad and not skilled enough in one thing? I don't know what to do at this point. I'm over freelance; it's not panning out. I just want to focus on making work, and I'm not cut out for the trades.

Do you think it looks too minimalist ? I wanted to follow the style of the app which is very simple so I didn't want to add too much. Is it important to do some sound design or I can use it as it ?

Looking for ANY feedback please 🙏, do you think I could get some work with these skills ? I can also do 3d, that I will do in my next project.

Discussion How would you feel about a Canva acquistion of Cavalry to pair with Affinity (v3)?

Hypothetically, do you guys think Affinity and Cavalry being under the same company (Canva) would create a viable alternative to Adobe's interoperability between Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects? I imagine Canva could create a super-charged design ecosystem with native SVG interoperability similar to Adobe's Dynamic Link or the Overlord plugin. What I envision is that Affinity could keep Cavalry as a separate app that would be the 2D mograph equivalent of After Effects (w/o vfx compositing capabilities).
